Just received my ACS moulded Pro 20's and tried them out at rehearsal last night and I'm not sure they fit right. The left ear in particular feels a bit weird. It feel like there is a vacuum in the ear and when I sing I can hear it more in my head than through my ears. Hope that makes sense? Because I've never used them before I'm not really sure how they are meant to feel in rehearsal/gig situation. Can anyone shed some light onto this please? Cheers Keith
Not sure about the vacuum thing, but singing with them in, I would expect you to hear more in your head. TBH I'm not sure they would be ideal if you're singing for that reason, as well as the fact that your jaw moving so much might compromise the seal.
It's as well that we're all different, eh? I can never understand a lot of bass players' attitude to Jaco. I've spoken with a few over the years who don't like the music. don't like the tone, don't like the bass playing tunes up front etc. etc. All this from players who were themselves barely adequate in my opinion - was it jealousy? Or did they really just simply not understand the music?
I'm hoping that you mean 'get' rather than 'understand', otherwise you would be coming across as patronising and elitist :-) A person's adequacy on an instrument, or their understanding of how a musician has made the music, should have no bearing on whether or not they like what they hear. I am less than adequate on guitar, and don't understand the technicalities of everything he does, but does that mean I can't enjoy John McLaughlin's music? Of course not. Conversely, I understand what Iron Maiden are doing musically, but just don't 'get' the music. I like Jaco in small doses. When I discovered Weather Report, I was impressed and awed by the playing, but found that style of fusion a bit cheesy. Some of it is fantastic though.

I have the 'Music has the right to Children' album, but definitely need to be in the right mood for it. This clip that Warp posted on FB is pretty avant garde, but I like it in a David Lynch soundtrack kind of way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2lyYEUPat8

why is 'depping' called 'depping' & whats the etiquete
Roland Rock replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Last time I depped I was sent a set of over 40 songs and slogged through as many as I could in the time available and at least it was with someone I'd jammed with before. On the night we played about 5 of them, rest were just thrown at me out of the blue (2x1hr sets). Most of the time I had a spotlight in my face so difficult to look over at the guitarist to actually see what he was playing.
Way to make the guy feel relaxed Kev ;-) -
Do precisions really work in any music?

The Most Beautiful Bass ever, EVER!

That Ritter R8 gets my vote. If Charles Eames were to design a bass, it would look like that. Simple, fluid, beautiful -

I've always assumed that it was short for deputising. Change of key is common enough, as the band will often change to suit the singer's range. It can be an annoyance to transpose on the hoof just because the band neglected to tell you that they play this one in G. Often they have been playing it that way for so long, they've forgotton that the original was in F. Get this clarified before you play with them! As for disregarding the original chords, this is something I've not experienced, unless it's a totally different arrangement. If I were you, I'd get the setlist with keys, get to know that, then sit with the guitarist and get to know where he plays the chords differently. Good luck -
I wasn't sure if the White Rooms were still in operation. However AFAIK Rubber Biscuit are still going. They're just across the road from Subway so maybe they'll have the current contact details?
There is one very near Subway called The Octave Rooms, maybe it has had a name change? -

Got into the dog house, cheers BRX. The irony is that that is exactly where I would have been with both the band and Mrs RR had I been unable to get anything :-) Thanks -
OK it's ugly and heavy but sounds superb. My Wallace AC5075XT:- Built around 1969. 2 x KT88s. In the early 70s when I was young and fit I used to gig a stereo wired bass into two AC100XTs (a lot bigger and heavier!) plus two Burman 4x12s.
I've seen MUCH uglier. Nice amp -
Yeah, but crossing over into bellend territory is a bit much. IMO it's better to keep to comments about basses rather than the bellends who own them Edit: oops!
-
And those coffee-table guitars are only bought by bell-ends
:-D I laughed at the bluntness of this, but just so you're aware, there are lots of members of Basschat who own these. I can't think of many bands that I listen to where the bass player uses a coffee table, but 'decent' is subjective.
Ha ha,yea me too. How come we cant achieve anything without the use of alien technology these days? Are regular metronomes no good then?
Haha, yes, in fact I have an old school pyramid type one too. I was just thinking that nothing is more portable than an app, which he will need if he's out and about, taking pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. Edit: and sharing them really quickly ;-)
-
With a family and kids, one is enough! When you start getting into more than two active bands, there will be inevitable clashes on gig dates.

VOTING TIME!!! - APRIL COMPOSITION COMPETITION - VOTING TIME!!!
Roland Rock replied to charic's topic in Recording
Really enjoyed them this month. Voted :-) -
As far as I'm aware, metronomes are pretty universal, and there are no bass specific ones. If you want really portable, download a free app on your phone. There are android and iOS ones available. I use one called Pro Metronome, which is great.

Blues, Rock, Jazz, Folk? what is this?
Roland Rock replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
The way I read the OP, he's saying he wants to do indie, but other bands of unsuitable genre keep approaching him. (I could be wrong) To me, indie can be really broad genre, incorporating rock, blues, punk, folk and more. Seldom jazz though :-)
