1. Not the best name, is it? Like giving a bass the brand name 'Plank'
2.
Excellent Discreet - I'll take a look at those too.
FYI, someone has had issues with Minotaur recently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197418-minotaur-straps-be-wary-if-ordering/
3. Move the laptop into the spare room? Obviously you'll have thought of this and have your reasons why you've not done it, but it may be the way with best results and least hassle.
4.
My rig as is... with a new addition coming soon...
Very nice BJ, although I get a headache even thinking about all those dials and knobs on the Rane - I looked one up, and can honestly say that the only two functions that I recognise are 'power' and 'output' :-)
5. Well, the Newstead album probably won't make the 100 most influential anytime soon, but it's good honest thrash. Obviously filmed last movember.
6.
It's real, it was done by Bassline in Germany.
Do you have an idea how the 'conversion' works with the change of bridge and body shape, like Chris2112 describes?
7.
Yeah my bad....6 x 10 added to poll
Cheers dude. Voted now (Barefaced '69er)
8. I can't vote as 6x10 is not on the list :-( Unless you want me to cheat a bit and go for 4x10 and 2x10
9. Last night at The Maze, Nottingham. After a soundcheck, i left my bass in the 'dressing room' and went off for food and drinks. By the time it came to getting the bass for the set, rain/melt water had trickled into the room, and the bottom of my bass case was sitting in a puddle of water! Thank goodness for the excellent build quality of Protec Cases. Bass unharmed. As soon as we get into the room, our freezing instruments became wet with condensed water from the air! Five minutes of grabbing bog roll and wiping the bass down, hoping that the electrics were not affected. Thankfully all was fine. Good gig, a decent crowd and well recieved. Also, great to hear Geordie band Too Spicy, very energetic and lovely lads. Their bass player Chris, after some issues with pedals, plugged straight in my head and cranked the volume - sounded amazing. I've never really heard it properly driven before as I play clean.
10. Actually I'm not sure whether they are all that curvy, or if that is a special one-off. I've never played a Ritter, but from an aesthetic point of view, I think Jens is incredibly talented. Saying that, the Cora or the R8 are as adventurous as I would stretch when it comes to actually playing one.
11. I suspect it's not quite as curvy as the original
12.
Hay, I hope someone can help? I deleted my profile pic to replace it now it won't? I've tried to upload a pic from my pooter but it just say 'can't upload photo' ? so i tried uploading from photobucket an it won't upload any copied links other than direct link and that comes upso big it takes the whole box up and you cant get to the save button bit? any help would be really great! thanks
I see irony when looking at your thread title and your sig :-D
13. Cheers mate. I'll let you know as soon as something is sorted.
14.
This. Last time I went buying picks I bought about 50 ready sanded ones (Dunlop I think) for only 1p more than the plain versions. Was once a sufferer of slipped picks with my sweaty hands, but not had a slip in yonks.
I can imagine someone sitting sanding picks then selling them on at a 1p profit :-D I've tried a few: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ibanez-Plectrums-1-0mm-Blister-Black/dp/B004CYEPEM The Ibanez with the 'sandpaper' sides, not bad, but could use a coarser grit http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plectrum-Dava-Grip-Tip-Pack/dp/B00154OJOI/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1358452234&sr=1-1 Dava, with the rubbery sides. The rubber itself is not that grippy, but there are three ridges on each side that save the day. Average. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dunlop-III-Picks-Plectrum-CARBON/dp/B003MXE4JU Dunlop max grip. Textured sides. Pretty damned good. http://www.greatbigmusic.com/ Cactus Picks. Textured sides, this time almost spiky. the grippiest of the lot. I'm not sure where I got the Cactus Pick, I just found one in my wee plectrum tin. Btw - the vast majority of the time, I play finger style!
15.
You should already own Plantation Lullabies as a bassist! It's one of my "Bass Bible" albums!
Thanks, will check that out. Obviously I was being somewhat hyperbolic and sweeping in my post, and my main issue is with 80s 'funk' (which I generally find cheesy rather than funky) I don't have much of the more modern funk/nu soul stuff, so recommendations like this are appreciated. Also, I have personal issues with jazzy keys in funk music, but I'm working through that with counselling :-)
16. I don't see much sense in having that sticky out peninsula tail bit if the strings are going to be anchored up on the mainland
17.
Meshell Ndegeocello - funky as anything ever created in the 70's (IMO)
Cool, got any recommended albums or songs please?
18. Funk, but not from the '70s?! Does not compute? :-D IMO funk became dodgy with the arrival of disco, and has only declined since (happy to be proved wrong) How about something from the '60s like Lee Dorsey?
19. Well done - that's superb exposure, especially for an unsigned band!
20. That looks like lots of fun, I especially like the one from 5.45 Thanks for the demo, Jack Black
21.
I can clearly see an electronic tuner clipped to his headstock so your memories of the '60s prove you weren't there.
That's a tuner? That makes much more sense. My first thought was that it was a scone, and just left it at that. It was the '60s, best not question these things
22. Thanks. Listened to them all now and voted. Great stuff everyone
