PLease vote on the January Mix competition
Roland Rock replied to 51m0n's topic in General Discussion
Hi, I can't open OldG's entry - is this a known issue or is it just me? -
I've read snippets of info about this intriguing amp. All valve, stupid money, stupid weight. Anyone know anything about them?
That Spider Bass is incredible! But then I have a thing for Spiders, I've got Tarantulas nearly as big... Though, oddly considering my love of spiky Basses, I can't stand the BC Rich Widow Bass (except the head, love the head, I made sure the Warlock I bought has the Widow head).
Hah - it's quite literally a beast, isn't it? BTW - did you ever get the action issue sorted on your BC Rich?

Maybe this thread will help, although the budget is a bit higher than yours.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/195432-recommendations-for-a-cheapo-5-string-bass/page__hl__atk

A great resource, thanks for posting. Agreed that it's by no means comprehensive (Roscoe another absent one) and there are a few in there not from the US (Marleaux, F bass, Le Fey, Jerzy droid, Benincaso) Nonetheless, great reading, thanks
Prog Pop is how I'd describe it. Why Off Topic? It's a general discussion about a musical ensemble, OT is for rants about the price of clown outfits and announcing you've found love or whatever.
Prog pop, sounds fair enough :-) I always regard General Discussion as being more bass related, rather than music in general, but no biggie (is that a phrase that makes anyone vomit?)

I've not heard any of their recorded stuff, but saw them live about four years ago at The Social in Nottingham. I'm surprised to hear them described as pop, as they were pretty rocky and quirky, almost verging on prog at times! Looking forward to having a listen to the album. Regarding heavy marketing of the band, how does that make a difference to whether or not you like a band? It just makes more people aware of them. Maybe I'm being naïve, and people are influenced by hype more that I thought :-) Btw, should this not be in Off Topic?

Like I said in Milty's other thread, I've had Etymotic ER4 for about seven years, till I lost them :-( I bought some cheaper Shure ones, but they've been returned. I'm so used to the clarity and balance of the ER4s, these couldn't even hope to compare. Looks like I'll have to cough up for some more Etymotics
I Ionian II Dorian III Phrygian IV Lydian V Mixolydian VI Aeolian VII Locrian
I always remember this with "I don't particularly like my aunt's legs" Well, made sense in my mind at the time, anyway :-D Great thread, thanks for the info everyone.

Agreed the Dava ones are only a bit grippy. Have you got a link to the pick bag please?
I noticed somewhere or other a few days back that they're is now a warwick single cut thumb!? Maybe they've been around a while but it's the first time I've seen one. Was I surprised? Yes!
yeah, it's been around for a while. I have a vague recollection that it was designed by a competition winner or something like that. It's not the most elegant SC design I've ever seen, edit -just seen throwoff's reply, forum designed! That RB Vampyre looks better without the horrid lip on the edge that the Warwick one has That 'W' one - has a good sense of humour, Maybe we'll see a Fodera Butterfly bass next :-)
I think Verdine White has the same problem... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lid4mMad8o
ROTFL, LOL, PMSL etc. dude needs to sort out his intonation. There's something fishy going on at the higher registers

Just as this is a relevant thread, I thought I'd share my experience. I've had Etymotic ER4 headphones for the last seven years, until I lost them recently :-( I always thought that they were very good, but maybe a bit overpriced. Looking for a replacement, I did my research and decided that I'd go for Shure SE215. Recieved this morning, tested on various songs I know very well. They are being returned. Apart from being fiddly to get into place, both the foam and rubber tips are inferior to the ER ones, meaning that it's more difficult to get the necessary isolation. The best description I can give to the sound is artificial, especially on the low end, a bit lacking in the mids, and a bit harsh on the top end. I guess I'd been taking the quality of the ERs for granted.
Nice , is that a 2 x 15" speaker cab? What amp do you have there , it looks tasty. What year is your Presision bass ? Is the bass a pink colour ?
So many questions! It's the '69er (sealed 6x10 made for valve amps) Amp is a 'Red iron' 100w valve job (made the case myself) with some mods by local amp guru Champ Electronics. '78 Precision, I bought it already stripped, and after ten odd years decided to give it a facelift. It's 'Capri Orange' which is part of the International Series from that period.

A friend came off the road once (he was unharmed). The CD at the time was 'greatest TV themes' so he was pumping up the volume to The A Team theme, and obviously got a bit carried away. After the event, the police were taking the piss out of him, as, when they arrived, he was upside down in a field with the theme to Neighbours blasting out :-)

I love that Big Al! Would have looked great in my old Bowie tribute band, which was very Spiders-Era heavy.
..and wasn't it the late 70s when there were quality control issues with Fenders?? ..." a fool and his money..."
Just the late 70s? :-D I reckon the going rate for a good condition, all original '77P is around £1200 This one has had more mods than Brighton, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's only worth half that. -
What are you listening to right now?
