1. Since buying a five string a few months ago, the four hasn't had a look in. Five is better for my band, and as my band is my only musical outlet at the moment, I don't see things changing, unless I need a more old school sound for recording, or old school sound/look for future bands. Edit. Obviously I'm not saying that all fours sound more old school than fives, but it's true in my case.
2. I neglected to tell you that the drumkit collapsed, the guitarist threw up mid song and the singer got electrocuted ;-)
3. First gig with a five string, and no bum notes!
4. Hi Skol, cheers mate, I reckon we'll be venturing up that way at some point. Band on the Wall, looks perfect! I'll get in touch ASAP.
5. Fair enough, we probably hear the same noise, but just have a different definition of mid scoop :-)
6.
the fact that P basses have a natural mid scoop.....
My ears don't agree with that fact
7. Shame Nigel, never mind, have a good wedding and see you next time. Update: Another date added to the list - The Donkey, Leicester, supporting the band of the late ska legend Laurel Aitken, The Pressure Tenants. 21st December.
8. Took me a while to get that you were talking about the fretting hand :-D Anyway, I'm a bit of a stickler for one finger per fret, and I find that with practice, index and ring is both comfortable and articulate. If playing the Phrygian or locrian modes, the second/ninth octave would be played with middle/pinky respectively.
9. I have an M80 and a Protec Contego. Because the Mono is moulded to the shape of the neck, the top of the shoulder straps have to be very close together, which I don't find comfortable. The Protec is wider at that point, so the tops of the straps can be a bit further apart, and I find this more comfortable. The Protec is heavier, but the comfort factor wins every time.
10. I didn't find him pretentious. Is it interesting? Yes!
11.
Really pleased it went well, hope you get to London at some point!
Well, we're playing in London at the above event, but not for long, just a paltry 20 minute set! Luckily I need to be in London on that day for business anyway.
12.
I bet that set up kills! Really tempted by WA and pairing it with a super15. If youre happy with the sound id go modular, 2 compacts or compact and a midget to add a bit more mid. What style of music do you play with this?
There's a clue in the picture :-D
13. Just looking at your avatar, maybe this will help.. http://parliamentfunkadelic.tumblr.com/post/28242196306/cordell-boogie-mosson-bassist-p-funk
14.
Quick vid from my gig last night. Its a tasty little toe tapper
Very good, the lighting guy is a bass player? Spotlight on bass player and singer's face in darkness :-D
15. Even if your active bass has a particularly high output, it also has a special control which helps you ensure that the optimum signal reaches your preamp ;-)
16. Love the Meters. When I was playing in a funk band a few years ago, I was a bit obsessed by them. We were about to jam Cissy Strut, when the trumpet player suggested we play it "funkier than the Meters". It turned out he meant faster. I became irrationally pissed off and couldn't speak to him for a week for fear of physically ramming my opinions on the true nature of funk down his stupid blasphemous throat. Anyway, great band, check out Dr Johns Right Place Wrong Time album, what a backing band to have! Soul Machine is my favourite track of theirs, beautiful simmering funk.
17. Lovely. Have no hesitation in dealing with Pierre, great to deal with.
18. From the Matamp Porn thread..
Dimensions as follows Width - 59cms Depth - 32.5cms Height - 27cms Cheers Pete
That's the new one. Put the compact on its side and it should fit on there nicely.
19.
... plenty of great reviews but Gumtree wont allow links in this description.
This isn't Gumtree, so link away Nice combos these, and louder than the specs may lead you to believe.
20.
This may be stupid question, is there an octave pedal that takes the original not up an octave? Everyone I've looked at only seems to take it down an octave.
A few EHX ones do, try POG, HOG and even the Microsynth. Also a couple of Boss pedals will do it, as well as the Foxrox Octron
21. Just voted. Lots of great stuff, for me there were a notable two or three that really captured the photo. Well done everyone.
22. 25 pages of Reidmar fun... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159447-ebs-reidmar/page__hl__ebs%20reidmar
23. Here's another one, the 'floating neck' used by Treker and Henman. http://www.trekerguitars.com/html/necks.html http://www.trekerguitars.com/html/neck_adjustment.html I think it works by having the rod attached to each end firmly, and the headstock is a separate component to the neck, there is no tension of the neck itself, eliminating dead spots and increasing sustain. Apparently.
