1.
Ok, so I ordered a Compact in June and I'm still waiting for it to turn up. I was aware there could be a bit of a wait, but what's concerning me now is after paying the full amount at the end of August, after Alex had emailed to tell me it was nearly ready, there is still no sign of it, and Alex is not responding to my emails. Hmmm. Is it too early to start worrying? I've heard no negative feedback yet in terms of products not arriving, just taking a loooong time, but the whole not replying to me thing is not exactly putting my mind at rest.
Did you get this sorted?
2. Had some offers, but nothing tempting yet. Keep em coming
3.
Just to clarify, I do play in a very loud band. However, one is more than adequate for rehearsals and probably most pub gigs. The band also plays clubs and functions without FOH support for the bass and guitar ( Axe FX +RCF312 x2) in which the BB's produce a fantastic sound . Why do i always use two? Cause i can and its great to hear the drummer complaining that he can't hear his kit . Everybody has different requirements and expectations , Alex is the best person for advice . Second hand ? Yep, very quick and very lucky . Roger
Absolutely agree :-) I wasn't dictating how loud I think your rig should be! I was just pointing out the contradictions between the previous poster saying that they were very sensitive, and you saying they were not sensitive.

5.
What are the others? Assuming equivalent amplifier power etc..

Cone area alone doesn't tell you how much air a rig can move - you need to also consider cone excursion (and port area if that's a potential limitation).
6. Good to hear. The more-conage-equals-more volume lesson is one I learned in this section too. Very handy as I have a 100w head that I absolutely love but there were some volume issues with my 2x10. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a 6x10!
7.
Replacing a single 18 with a 4 x10 should make quite a bit more racket because it will shift a lot more air. If we assume that the whole surface of a cone driver is active in terms of direct air displacement (it isn't quite but let's keep this simple), then one 18" driver has a surface area of roughly 176.71". A single 10" has a radiating area of about 78.54" so four of them working together will have 4 x 78.54" = 316.16" bashing the air out.
A 15" has an area of 176, an 18" has an area of 254. Still, your point remains valid.
8. In this thread, the dude says in post 9 that they have low sensitivity, to the extent that he/she needs two of them! Sounds odd to me, I guess Alex can clear it up
9. Andy - you have constant cab GAS! Sorry, can't help with this query, but I wish you luck in finding sonic nirvana eventually
10. If the bass I built sounds good, is versatile, reliable, looks great and plays well, then why keep the others? especially if I needed need the money. Sentimental value maybe, and Steve makes a good point about using them as a benchmark. If it doesn't satisfy these criteria, maybe a bit more r&d is needed, but that costs money. Catch 22 Yours look great btw
11. Not really my cup of tea, that one. If I may be so bold as to embed one of my favourite covers of this song, here it is. Very jazzy, and it builds the atmosphere to bonkers-point several times. There's a bit of vocal chorus around 3:45 "I look at all the funky people" - brilliant!
12. I've switched my main playing bass to one with more EQ, and no longer need the lovely VLE and VPF filters on this pedal. It's pretty much as new, with the power supply and original box http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=117 £60 posted to UK
13. I used to try to get as close to the studio version as possible, but then as I listened to more live albums featuring the same player, the more the bassline varied. My conclusion? much like the others above, get the general gist/feel, then play around a bit till it suits your band/mood/the moment.
14. Sorry, I won't part with my Ergon 5, but have a bump on me for having such a lovely bass
15. I had lots of fun with this old band. This one is a homage to the coolest member of the A Team (the chorus "shut up you crazy fool" gives a hint) and this is a bit of a jazz/funk odyssey
16.
That's perfect, Bremen, if you're drilling into a blank piece of wood, but if you're enlarging a hole there's nothing for your bit to drill into.
Get a spare piece of MDF and make a 100mm hole in it as normal. Then clamp this onto the baffle so the hole in the MDF is where you want the final hole to be. Recess the bit the bit so it's inside the holesaw, then drill, using the MDF to keep the holesaw in place.
17. I think this used to be my old thread. I'd have it back in a heartbeat, unless you call my bluff, in which case I'll make up an excuse
18. I've just arranged to go to The Chameleon on Friday to see Sleaford Mods among others :-( Will try to pop in though, I really enjoyed the last show, and I reckon Mr Venom in such a confined space would be quite interesting!
19. Welcome to Basschat. You wouldn't happen to be the proprietor of this company? If so, you should get onto the Affiliates forum to plug your wares.
20. Strangely, IMO it looks odd when vertical, but good when horizontal. I need to disable the rotate function on my iPad, it's driven me nuts with this :-)
21. Nothing like joining a new band to get you out of a rut! Welcome to BC :-)
22. Adventurous? Melodic? Straying from the root note? Get out! :-) Welcome to BC btw
23. Welcome to BC. As Bert says, you'll get lots of advice on how to get the best out of the Marlin, until you succumb to GAS and buy an Alembic :-)
