1. Sounds like you need to take up the cello :-)
2. I used the Rotosound Steve Harris ones on my bass for years, but then changed to the Rotosound Tru Bass nylons to get more of a 'thump'. They are advertised as providing a 'jazzy upright sound' which may be the case on a fretless, but on my P it's just a mellow yet quite defined tone. Really nice and a lot more versatile than I had anticipated. Very smooth to the touch too.
3. If anyone's interested, i have the very first production example of the long-awaited barefaced 69er on the way. I'm on week ten now, and have been told it'll be with me by the end of the month. Silver grille option, of course :-)
4. That's a good point. We had a monthly night which became increasingly popular with the students at the guitarist's school. A great atmosphere, but the venue had to clamp down on underage drinking.
5. I was in a jazz/funk band, and the guitarist was 16 when we started. We never had any issues with the venues as far as I can remember. A real asset to the band, great musician who then went on to get a scholarship at the Royal College of Music (got first in composition) Beware though, he got ALL the girls! :-)
6.
Oasis - Wonderwall
?
7. What the hell is one of those? Here's a pic: I have two (come free with the stands) and can't imagine a scenario where I'll ever be maintaining more than one bass at a time. Yours if YOU CAN COME AND PICK IT UP from Bulwell, Nottingham. Getting to the Post Office is a real PITA for me so please do not ask.
8.
+1 -2 ? I do hope this isn't going to turn into another thread about maths ...
The speakon socket has four points at the back: 1+, 1-, 2+ and 2- A normal connection is "two pole" and should be wired to the 1+ and 1- points. It seems that sometimes the cab makers are daydreaming and connect it to the wrong point. The "four pole" connections are for things like bridged amps or bi-amping.
9. Thanks for that. They're from my home town, so will definately record it.
10. When my head was in amp hospital for a while, I borrowed a Peavy 1x15 keyboard amp. Heavy, tough, loud, and not bad sounding at all.
11. What was the problem? I had a cab with that issue, and it was a simple matter of swapping the wires from 2+/2- to 1+/1- (thanks to Dave OBBM for the tips). Glad I didn't have to send it back to the States! Glad you got it sorted quickly.
12. Very good advice about confirming the key upfront. I know it's easy enough to transpose, but it's a headache you can do without on the night.
13.
PhotoShoppers, you know what to do with this pic plus a pic of a beer bottle. Me no like. I love design and modern design, but do not love most custom bass designs. They mostly seem plain amateuristic and awkwardly weird. Come to think of it, so do most basses. The Bongo, however ... Lurv it. best, bert
The photoshop opportunities with a Bongo would be much more humourous :-)
14. I like the body shape, but the straight lines on the headstock don't compliment it at all, IMO
15. I love the black, as it compliments the cab perfectly. Great job.
16.
What's the difference between a tribute band and another production of Macbeth ?
" life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" William Shakespeare, Macbeth
17.
I would suggest the Vox Pathfinder, an Ashdown Tourbus, or one of the smaller Laney RB series.
:-D
18. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Vox, I just went on your description. A bit leftfield, but when I practice at home, I plug into the aux on my dab radio (Pure Oasis) The sound is not bad at all, it's obviously very portable (built in rechargeable battery too) can really take a knocking/getting wet, and is by no means loud, but certainly louder than unplugged, and possibly loud enough to accompany an acoustic guitar/vocals. Got mine for less than a hundred quid.
19. You don't mention budget, but a PJB Briefcase would fit the bill, although heavier than the Vox http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_amps_detail.asp?stock=05080113052818
20.
This one, cause it came preloaded, but I do intend to replace the eq with the graphic when I can afford it.
Nice. What does MF stand for? I assume it's for when you "need some more m*****f****** low" etc. :-)
21. Here you go http://www.gak.co.uk/en/mark-bass-mo-mark-500-amp-frame/34252
22. I think you slot each component (pre, eq, master) into a chassis with a built in power section
