1. Great video and track. Did you record this track in a studio in the Lady Bay area? My mate Paul co-owns a studio there and he talked about 'a bass and drum outfit where the bass player played a seven string plank (he's not good at Maths) and a Barefaced cab' - I thought of you! Anyway, I'd like to catch you live sometime.
2. You need diamond side dots on your Sue Ryder
3. I also love the LPBlue. There are a few LPBs out there in that style due to the Squier CV, but it still looks very cool, and I don't think anyone will mistake yours for a Squier CV! Pink is great too, looking at Kevin's one. Basically it's gonna be great whatever :-)
4. Not marmite. I loved many of its attributes, but couldn't quite get the sound I wanted. I had it for four years before I discovered that there was something more suited to me. If it was marmite, I'd have got rid straight away.
5. Did I miss the Nottingham bash? If not, any plans?
6. I have never liked UB40. As a child of the 80s all I can remember is their poppy covers, and they were never cool. However, I recently bought their first album, Signing Off. Wow! Really well produced, a bit dubby, political, and importantly, Ali Campbell is understated, not upfront at all. Lovely basslines from Earl Falconer too.
7. Go for it. I had one (2eq) and the build quality and playability were superb, but the sound was not really for me. I traded it in for a P and never looked back. Get one second hand, and if you don't gel with it, you can sell it on without losing any money.
8.
I have added a Wizard 84 at the neck, (still have the stock pick up) and the neck pick up is original.
Sorry - which pickup is the Wizard and which is the original please?
9. Welcome to the forum. Join a band - your playing will improve no end and it's lots of fun. Go on... you know you want to
10. I know exactly what you mean. I'd love it as a quality instrument and as something cool and different, but at the same time I'd be slightly self-conscious playing it. I'd imagine it's taking a while to sell for that reason, but sooner or later someone will come along and snap it up as it will be perfect for them.
11. http://basschat.co.u...nuclear%20green I love this bass, but my I'd be thrown out of the band if I turned up with it! The shape of the MVP is lovely, and IMO spoiled by a burst finish as it makes those lovely gooey horns less obvious. Its in-your-face looks are great, but more importantly it's had some serious upgrades. I'll be happy for SW when it sells, as it's been on there for ages and he's been pissed about a fair bit, but will also be a bit sad that it's not going to me.
12. What are the terms of the warranty? Did they know that there had been several owners? Like any other area of customer service, things go wrong, but what's important is how the company sort out the problem and whether they learn from it. Nice one Fender.
13. Goodbye Basschat, Hello Moogchat, eh? Whatever makes you happy, indulge it. Personally I'd keep one bass just in case, and maybe get a small but nice amp. That way you can keep playing if you miss it and even incorporate your bass playing into the recording from time to time?
14. It sounds pretty natural to me, as everything will be amplified, not just the good stuff. It's mostly about practice practice practice when amplified, and after time you'll start to eliminate unwanted sounds. A couple of other suggestions to reduce the nasty sounds - make sure you have a good setup, try playing with a lighter touch, and higher tension strings will help. How do you feel about flats?
15.
No probs, just out of interest have you ever played a vette $$? Is there much of a sound difference in the two?

Actually no, the VLE just cuts the freq from about 250hz and above. its designed to emulate the old muffled speaker cabs. They should have called it.......The Ashdown knob
If the VLE only cuts the higher frequencies and leaves the lower ones alone, would that not suggest that the muffled tone issue is coming from elsewhere? ie it has isolated the lower frequencies rather than colour them. Hope this makes sense
16.
the high fidelity thing...for a moment i thought that it was tom hanks. Then, i thought that it was ian hislop. i'm tired
I saw Tom Hanks too! I don't think he's punchable, just a bit geeky and lacking in charisma. Not a bad voice
17.
This HAS to be my favourite cover though. The Beatles are one of those artists that should never be covered but this just nails it - Greg Phillinganes synth bass line is just sublime... it just gets more incredible as the song goes on.
Great stuff - thanks for that! I have quite a collection of Beatles covers but not heard that one before.
18. I agree - you wouldn't buy a nice car and keep it in the garage. It's there to be enjoyed, and dings are just mementos of the fun you've had along the way.
19. Pucco & the Latin Soul Brothers covering Gladys Knight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYMTA8vuEuo
20.
saw one the other day that was listed as "4 string guitar"... http://www.ebay.co.u...5#ht_508wt_1215
So they know it has a 'slim taper D profile neck' yet can't spell 'bass'
21. Exciting stuff Sean. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one come together.
22. Aw, when I read the thread title, I thought someone had been trying to play without strings.
23. Hi This thread might help, unless there is some difference between the basses I'm not aware of: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/182538-ft-warwick-streamer/ Alas, it seems that Warwick suffer from dreadful depreciation, so you could be looking around 50% of the new price.
24. Nice to see Alice Russell love, what a lovely voice. Can we keep Dirty Loops out of the thread too please? :-) I love a good Beatles cover. Two of my favourites are Stevie Wonder's 'We can work it out' and Earth Wind and Fire's 'Got to get you into my life' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB24z00ajU4 Another rockier favourite is Monster Magnet's version of Howlin Wolf's 'Evil' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4llU46Xok
