1. I'm a big advocate of the smaller valve amp as a practical gigging tool (I have a 100Watter myself), and there should be a market for them as they're loud enough, yet not unmanageably big and heavy. These Fender ones look cool and have some great features. I'd never pay that much for one. I think I'd go for the much cheaper EBS T90. I suspect that Fender are cashing in on their heritage and selling an image, rather than a value-for-money product. Again. Edit - I hope this does not come across as mindless Fender Bashing. I love them, it''s just that I feel in recent years the company have been putting out some products that are good quality and look the business, but priced too highly for what they are. I'm sure this is a top quality amp.
2.
......and lots of tonal options.
I should bloody hope so with that number of controls
3.
Equally as marvelous
I find this even more offensive. I don't like "Somebody Else's Guy" anyway, so that original video was like watching someone splat a custard pie in Rupert Murdoch's face. Watching this version of "What's Going On?" is like watching someone punch my mum in the face.
4. You can't describe something like that then have no pics!! Sounds lovely
5.
What do you expect? This is a typical scenario played out every other night all over the country. Office workers who like to think they're a bit 'special', because they're in a 'band'. Should we judge them for it, lest we be judged..? YEAH!!
MeeOwww The Dark Side I sense in you, my young apprentice :-)
6. This one reminds me a bit of Betty Davis. Fine groove, wonderful vocal delivery and check out those synths! Love it. (I do wish that the bass tone was less bright/rattly though, IMO would sound so much better clean and fat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKoMNitFXPk
7. EWF. I love the chorus on this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyRFixbAAuo
8. A bit of early rap and funk comedy from 1968 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvMBxlu62c0
9. You have yourself a bargain, sir. Consider it on retention
10. Apparently they are great for that reggae 'thump'. As well as the aforementioned Robbie Shakespeare, I've seen Peter Tosh's bass man play one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o4Fgh0KW_4
11. If you don't overdrive the valve (keep the I/p level down), the pedal works very cleanly. Flick on the Boost switch then you can dial in a lovely clean boost in signal.

13. Ones that spring to mind are Soul Coughing, Ben Folds and Red Snapper. Some examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihZlQOaR8b8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VULBO_pYl18&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLDBE09C00843DF8AD
14. The one installed ATM is an Electroharmonix. The Mullard is the extra one included in the price. Sorry, it wasn't too clear before., wording amended and pics now added showing both valves.
15. From Friday's gig - obviously I was having an "eyes closed" moment:
16. Cheers. I have enough tubey warmth from my amp, so this pedal really delivers lots of stuff I don't need. I will miss the DI though, I've recorded with it and gone into FOH with this and it's great.
17. I've been pretty lucky over the years - only a monitor which started smoking!
18. I bought this from Dave Hall about two years ago for £150 From the DHA website: "The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive uses a single 12AX7 (ECC83) valve to generate classic pure valve tones. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is intended to be used in front of a valve amplifier, but will also work well with solid state amps adding valve/tube warmth. The foot switch provides a true by-pass of the overdrive and EQ part of the circuit and the Blue LED indicates if the effect is on or off. There is a cool blue backlight visible via the valve vents. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is fitted with 2.1mm external PSU adaptor for use with a 9-12v @ 600mA external supply. The user should use a well regulated external supply as the better the regulation then the less the hum when at higher gain levels. The inner of the connector is the positive, there is reverse polarity protection so no harm will be done if you get it wrong. There is an internal switch mode power supply which doubles the 12V to 24V for the valve anodes or ‘plates’. The pedal will work at any voltage between 9V to 12V Please note that there will be a drop in output level if used at 9v so 12v is recommended. The controls are Level, i/p Level, Gain, Boost, Level, Q, Headphone/line out level DI Level, Treble, Mid, Bass, Colour switch, Bright switch, Boost switch and DI Gnd Lift switch" It's plain red, rather than the splashed effect DHA usually do (at my request) The paint job is pretty sloppy and the writing done by hand as usual. Comes with the power supply and a spare Mullard ECC83 valve! (EHX one installed currently) Everything works as it should, I just don't need overdrive or that much EQ with my current band. £70 posted or I'll very generously swap for a MarkBass Superbooster Edit: Pictures added. As you can see, I've put chicken head knobs on (to match my amp) but I've kept and will include the originals too.
19.
*grin* actually I think it was because I was just amazed that you could actually play a bass with so much hardware covering the strings...
Yes, style over substance, that's me. Good job I don't have a scooter
Really pleased it went well, hope you get to London at some point!
Thanks. The guitarist and I have a fair amount of gigging experience, but the singer had never played live with a band before, and the drummer had never gigged in public (only his school), so we're chuffed it went so well. I'm sure London that will be on the cards at some point. It would be great to meet you.
20. Listening to the bassline on "A Little bit of Love" affected me greatly as a fledgling bass player. His use of space and timing. My favourite rock player.
21. Our guitarist found some of my posts while googling our band name. He said 'basschat?! - that's worse than Internet porn!' A DJ housemate found the fact that there was a Strings Direct absolutely hilarious. Takes all sorts. I must admit, when talking to non BCers about the forum, I refer to it in a sort of mumbled 'that bass forum thing'
22. We had a really fun gig. The place was small and busy with a very positive and receptive atmosphere. Of course there were mistakes, but overall we're happy to have our first gig out of the way, and with lots of cheers and positive feedback. Good to meet BigRedX too, who managed to politely disguise his disdain for Fenders :-) it was good to meet you and have a chat BRX. A good night.
23. What does that writing say? I think I can make it out as "skankdelvar"
