1. Three questions please: Is this a bargain, can I trust you, and will I ever get that quality J bass for that money again?
2. I'm a fan of this look too, in fact I posted a similar thread a while back - not too many replies though. There is a link to a UK retailer who appear to have them in red, pink or sunburst
3. Someone has spotted the bargain and put a bid in. It will be interesting to see whether it ends up above the original £600 starting price.
4. Lloyd Brevett passed away today. He was a founder member and bass player in the Skatalites. He passed away this morning, aged 80. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZj-c1XP_M0
5. That's really nice* *apart from the quilted top, the gold hardware, the headstock and the blue knobs.
6. How does it compare to Chuck Norris in terms of awesomeness please?
7. No longer required
8. Good to know Mike, the departing editor says something similar in the mag. Look out for a Nottingham-based BCer (not me ) in this month's issue.
9. Don't worry about your baby, it's just that time of year again
10. Mine arrived this morning. Good to know they're still delivering as promised
11. Sorry - I like my basses to be full of awe. Do you have any aweful bases?
12. I was all like meh but then I saw the word AWSOME so I thought AWESOME. How much awe does it contain please.
13.
You're not from around here, are you?
14. UJahm are a Nottingham based reggae band. We seem to have moved away from the rootsier style and towards an edgier 'urban' style with poppy, dubby and dancehall flavours. Not everyone's cup of tea, but many people really dig it. "The music is reminiscent of old school reggae but the band have their own distinctive twist that they put on the genre. Sudden beat switches, funky syncopated basslines combined with the singers' strong vocals leave the venue with a lasting impression." - LeftLion.co.uk "Nottingham’s answer The Specials, UJahm will give you some Jamaican and British Ska influenced Reggae. The energetic beats from Neckie, Chris and Kamrah perfectly compliment the sultry vocals that Shylaah provides, to create Reggae vibes that’ll make you want to jump around. Other inspirations for these guys range from Roots Reggae, to Dub, Soul, Hip Hop, and even Drum and Bass" Nusic.org.uk Please see last post on the thread for latest gig details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cq2A7M8XbU0
15.
He was the Bassist in the Dust junkies, a reasonably successful band back in the 90's, albeit a bit duff! I was on tour in Newcastle a few months ago, and I saw him playing in the street, recognised him immediately and had a little chat. he is a sound bloke.
Funny, I was just thinking about him today when a Dust Junkies song popped up on my ipod. I saw them at a Reading Festival and he had a great trick of soloing with his bass behind his back.
16. Welcome Matteo
17.
I have to say that this thread is probably one of the best classic funk resources on the web. Amazing posts.
+1 for example - I'd never heard of Deodato before, but absolutely love that first one and just ordered a box set. A great resource indeed
18. I can't see where to report it. He/she seems to be very greedy with the reserve
19. Has Wayne shifted that 8 x 10 yet? It was going for peanuts
20. Ending soon with no bids so far. I'd say if you could get it for that price, it's a lot of bass for your money. Alas, my funds have been committed to buying a new cab, plus, aesthetically it's not the nicest example I've seen. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150801888113?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
21. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1969-Fender-Precision-Bass-/120904692743?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c267b3407 What's the deal with this one? - 99p starting bid!
22. Is this funk/groove? Damn right is is - and atmospheric too: And from the fantastic blaxploitation movie soundtrack "Savage" (note the tagline "On the streets or on the sheets, he's a savage") Some of the funkiest flute playing ever
23. Cool! It's interesting how it's more like a "half fan" ie a traditional nut and first fret, then fanning down from there, compared to the Dingwall method. What's the neck pickup?
24. That's a nice looking bass at a good price. The wood looks lovely under the sunburst finish. What does it weigh?
25. More Freddie McGregor - I love this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7i0CT309Po
