1. Once you go orange you never go back
2. I went from a Marlin Sidewinder to a Stingray. That'll be a no,then! edit: I still have great affection for the Marlin, though. It did me really well.
3.
.... I live about 5 minutes from junction 26 M1 Nottingham.
So do I! Maybe we're neighbours.
4. There was a Barefaced Dubster cab for sale on here a while back. http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/dubster.htm If anything can handle your mega low frequencies, it's that! What head do you have currently? If you also need high end however, I'd suggest looking at the others in the range. Sounds like you might get on well with the guys in who frequent this thread what with their crazy electronic tendancies
5. This is the song that my three-year-old requests every time we get into the car. I'm so glad she has good taste! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAsGTmUDveU
6. Some nice stuff there RoRi. I was unaware that there was a band called 'sp**k'. How does that look when you 'like' them on Facebook?
7. Understood, but there's no harm in asking whether there are strings out there which both feel and sound the way I want them to. It's my understanding that there have been certain innovations to facilitate this, such as groundwounds, or pressurewounds. What about coated strings? Do they feel any smoother?
8. They should change the name to "Wand Erection", thereby keeping the same name phonetically, avoiding getting sued, and broadening their appeal to the horny adolescent fantasy geek demographic.
9.
Mute with the left hand.
I don't get this, unless you're left-handed. How can you do that if you're fretting the notes at the same time? There is playing ghost notes, but that's not the subject of the thread AFAICS. Palm muting is an option, using the plucking hand.
10. Elephant 9, probably my favourite Scandanavian Hammond-based prog group
11. Thanks for the replies - i'll bear those in mind
12. Welcome. BTW - nice video you've posted You'd never know you'd been playing for such a short time.
13. While killing time at a recording studio last night, I picked up a bass that was lying around. It quickly occurred to me that I had not played roundwound strings for about ten years, and the feeling was somewhat akin to chewing tinfoil, or running fingernails down a blackboard It was both the feeling on my fingers, and the noise when sliding the fingers. It's possible that I'll want a more bright, and modern tone at some point, so can you advise a good compromise? Decent groundwounds for example. I once tried RS pressurewound, but they just felt like roundwounds to me.
14. Good for those who fancy a bit of Peak practice* *poor humour
15. Not my thing at all, but looks like a lot of quality for the current price. Let's see what it ends up at. Sheffield isn't in Derbyshire
16. I love the paint job - to me it has a kind of sci fi "Metropolis" feel
17.
"in the zone" WTF does that mean? Within walking distance of the correct note?
The phrase itself is a bit corny, but the concept is valid, albiet somewhat intangible.
18. fyi http://basschat.co.u...ag-l380-posted/ Not sure if you like five strings. I understand it's over your budget, but as it includes a fitted case and postage, it's a good deal
19. Is Exeter close enough? http://www.mansonguitarworks.com/index.cfm/about
20.
Play loud...
A fine choice

22.
oeergh. Looks like the body was made before they knew what a guitar looked like, and then they had a game of pin the hardware on the bass.
Surely a guitar can look like anything you want it to, as long as it works in terms of playability and sound? Re. Hardware - it all looks quite standard placement to me, other than the wonky pup.
23.
I'm dying to find out who the guitarist is on the track "Smile Like That". Sounds like a young Allan Holdsworth. Anyone know?
After a bit of Googling, I'd conclude it's Jef Lee Johnson. He has quite a distinctive tone, similar to that of John Schofield
