1. Welcome Mingsta, Believe me, joining Basschat will feed your temptation to buy more gear. It's inevitable, so just go with it!
2. Nothing fancy,but that's kinda the point.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd34UjP6Q3Y
3. Disgraceful, unnecessary, I've never heard of such a thing ...............I mean really? a blues bass player with a pedal board??!!? Re. the non-payment, I sympathize. We've had a landlord refuse payment purely on the grounds that we brought up a 'guest' singer to sing on one of the encore songs without prior agreement! Small claims court, or the threat of, will sort them out. Good luck.
4. I'm stunned by the revelation that it's "Epi Fanny" What about Skjold?
5. You'll either love this or hate it. Lonnie Plaxico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytWJPb2IrRg
6. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but anyone come across these? Basically you pay the company $1500 odd and they replace your old metal frets with quartz crystal ones, in whatever crazy colour combo you want. Superb tone, sustain, durability etc. etc. http://www.crystalfrets.com/
7. Dap kings were superb last night. Sharon Jones is incredibly funny, charismatic and vocally talented. The band super tight but not in a 'show-off' kind of way - really supportive and groovy. I was expecting to see Gabe Roth on bass, but instead it was a girl introduced as 'Foxy H' or something. She looked pretty cool in a school uniform getup (not in a saucy way) playing her modified P Bass through an Ampeg 8x10 rig. Again, solid and supportive rather than flashy - perfect for that band. Highly recommended. edit - found a pic of aformentioned bass player
8. I sold a chrome pickup cover to Tom. Fast payment and good communication. Cheers
9. I sold a job lot of music books to Chris. Instant payment, nice chap. Cheers
10. Thanks for that. Do you reckon there would be any harm in giving it a go?
11. I currently have 2 x (Tungsol) 6SL7GT valves in my preamp and want to get some spares (ie have an excuse to buy another type and play around) Are ECC35 valves interchangeable? Anyone done this? Thanks
12. I recently got a phone call from a guy I used to play with who has formed a new band (I'd previously declined to join for a number of reasons, but mainly because this guy is a knob) "Hi, we still don't have a new bass player, but want to record a demo. Would you be able to learn these four songs then come and record with us? Don't worry about your share of the recording costs - we'll cover that"
13. It's a bit like being in a long-term relationship; the initial passion and excitement inevitably fade over time, and are replaced with a deeper, more fundamental yet less intense relationship. The magical moments* still happen, but are less frequent, and sometimes take more effort to come about, and sometimes appear when you least expect it. * For 'magical moments', read 'sex'
14.
As to maple vs rosewood, they both vary greatly in density, since there are loads of species, and variation according to position in a tree. Rosewood boards are going to be laminated into a maple neck whereas a maple board might not be, additionally a maple board will be lacquered and a rosewood one probably won't be. But Rickenbackers use a lacquered dark woo board, might be rosewood or related, and are known for bright tone, so maybe you are entirely looking at the wrong factors.
Regarding variation according to position in tree etc, I've worked with lots of rosewood of varying species, and lots of different batches of maple (not as many different species) and would say that the rosewood is generally always stiffer and heavier, suggesting it's more dense. However, I take your point taht it's a natural substance there will be variation - I've handled boards of tulipwood from the same batch where one is at least twice as heavy as the next! Your points about lamination and laquer are very good ones, and are not factors I had considered. Ta.
15. Depends on your wallet, your back and your car. Wallet: How much are you willing to spend? New decent valve amps start at around a grand. Back: Are you willing to lift a 300w beast plus 8x10 around? I'd say the lightest you can get for your volume requirements would be something like an EBS T90 paired with a Barefaced 69'er. Car: How much space do you have? A 200w amp with a 1x15 is relatively compact yet bloody loud.
16. Is it purlely UK based? The fantastic Eugene McDaniels's political/protest music reportedly caused then vice president Spiro Agnew to call Atlantic Records personally in order to complain. Result!
17.
does it look like a genuine, original condition Fender USA?
Hi Joe, welcome to basschat. I'm not an expert, but, to me it looks like genuine. The serial number is correct for the period. It certainly has 'mojo' - 'mojo' to the extent that I'd suspect it's suffered from neglect. Be prepared to take it to a tech you can trust to give it a thorough overhaul.
18.
...But I only used them for clean so the point of having an 'all tube' head was pointless.
IMO having a valve amp for clean is far from pointless. I vastly prefer my current (valve) clean sound to my previous (SS/hybrid) ones.
19. How about a version of Funkadelic's 'Can you get to That' mashed up with Sleigh Bells' 'Rill Rill', which samples the former.
20.
Done. I chose practice a lot (weekly rehearsals plus stuff at home) and in a band that plays live (when we can).
That pretty much describes me too, but I put "don't really practice much" as I feel I should be practicing more at home but don't have the time. I'm on BC instead.
21. Hi Paul, If no-one is interested in the job lot after a few days I'll consider selling them separately. You're first on the list
22. I can't see me changing any time soon; I've had SS and hybrid before and never been satisfied until my valve amp. I'm lucky in that it's not too heavy.

24.
For me it would be Friday on London. Trouble is, the Haggis Horns have a gig on the same date and I'm going to find that hard to resist
A tough choice indeed - I love the Haggis Horns too.
