1.
Such a lack of assertiveness is something you should perhaps consider working on otherwise people will take advantage of you in all sorts of ways. It can be improved and I know because I used to suffer from it myself, checkout the self improvement section of your local bookshop.
I'd disagree with this. Shockwave, from your post, it sounds like you are a really straight-up guy, and have already learned to do business without people taking advantage of you. What goes around comes around, and the more goodwill you spread, the better. I'm fortunate enougn to never want to sell my gear, but if I did, lowball offers would be regarded with amusement, then politely declined. They'll get their comeuppance come karmageddon
2. You don't strike me as the slapping sort, Geoff. Other than that, I find it difficult to imagine a circumstance where the back of my thumb would ever be near the string. Maybe it's a five strinng thing. Maybe Elixirs would help if you wanted to keep your thumbs as nature intended.
3. or is that bridge cover wonkey? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision...3#ht_500wt_1156 edit: my spelling is wonky
4. I'd look at Sadowsky, Avella Copollo, Sandberg, Shuker, Modulus, GB and Dingwall for starters
5. Nice. It has a good flow to it, and I like the way the backing vocals build it up. Lead vocal is very Rufus Wainwright in style.
6. Anyone seen Amp Fiddler live while Bubz Fiddler was on bass? The vid doesn't really capture it, but this dude is cool. Ice cubes are jealous of Bubz Fiddler.
7. A lot of talent there, but as a whole, it doesn't quite work for me. Instrumentally, great fusiony stuff which imo would sit well under some crazy horns, rather than a very poppy voice. Likewise, i think the vocals would be better suited to a pop setting. Maybe that mix is what makes them stand out, it just doesn't work for me.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/fender-precision...6#ht_500wt_1156 They have not mentioned weight so it may well be a boat anchor, but look at that flame maple! mmmmm
9. I have query directed towards those who believe that the type of wood makes a difference to tone: They say that the denser the wood, the brighter the tone - makes sense to me. People tend to say that a maple board is brighter sounding than a rosewood one, even though I'm quite certain that rosewood is softer/more dense than rosewood. Why is this?
10. Will do
11.

I know you said you got a mortgage recently, but bloody hell....
12. I've been meaning to see one of your shows for a while - I reckon the Angel on the 18th is the one - looking forward to it!
13.
It should just t-cut out, maybe?
14. Ouch! Some luthiers have amazing tricks up their sleeves, but a break across the grain like that is going to be more than difficult to repair to the required strength (not to mention expensive) If it's bolt-on, I'd say a replacement neck (if you can get one to fit the pocket) is the way to go. An e-mail to the manufacturer with pics couldn't do any harm, they may send you a replacement neck out of pity! Edit - just noticed it's an acoustic bass - so replacement neck is out. Sorry, looks like a write-off
15. Well deserved - Jens is a breath of fresh air (or poppers) in a pretty samey industry
16.
I'm a medium. The money's not great but you get to meet lots of people and make them happy.
I had an idea for a TV show once, about an obese psychic detective called Jimmy Small, called "Small, Extra Large Medium" Anyway, I have had someone take the mick because my bass was so high, but I've always considered myself a medium
17. Ok, thanks. I've just done a refin, so will double check the earth connection to the bridge.
18. I've just quit my band* because, due to an expanding family, I can't do as many gigs as I used to be able to. I'd be able to commit to approx. one gig a month plus practices. I'm thinking that my situation may fit in with bands who need a dep on a regular basis or bands who also have other band/family commitments. My preferred genres are reggae, funk, blues, psychadelic rock and electronica. That's by no means definitive, but I'm unlikely to go for pop or hair metal. I have my own transport, and I pride myself on my punctuality. *I didn't drop them in it - I stayed till they had a replacement up to gigging standard
19. I'd like some advice about the ground/lift switch on my pedal. I know it's something to do with eliminating unwanted noise but I don't know how to use it. What is the best time to use each setting and why? I have experienced unwanted noise, where there is a buzz which stops as soon as I touch the strings. It happened quite a bit with my old Ray but only a handful of times with the P. Is this the type of thing that proper use of the ground/lift switch could eliminate?
20.
The thing that bothers me most about the Warwick headstock is that they slap it on all their basses irrespective of the rest of the design of the instrument (except for the few occasions when they use the Buzzard shape). It sort of works on some of their designs but it most certainly doesn't on the Star Bass or the one other Warwick that I like - the Jack Bruce Cream Reunion Signature.
Well said - my thoughts exactly; the Star and Jack Bruce ones are the nicest designs they do, shame about the headstock. I do also have a quirky soft spot for the Fortress Flashback too
21.

So who's got a 5-string in that I can try? I would have to get someone to re-shape the headstock though because IMO the Warwick headstock is the ugliest thing ever...

I'd say there are a few contenders for that title, AC and Nordy spring to mind. I reckon the Star is one of the prettiest that Warwick make, though the headstock does look out of place
22. Maybe you could offer to explain the concept of Max Bid to him? Like Mr Foxen says, it's a concept some people can't seem to grasp. I'm sick of trying to explain it to Mrs Rock
23. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CMI-Bass-Cabinet...c#ht_500wt_1156 Anyone know anything about these?
24. Maybe Rotosound should bring out some Hendrix bass strings, as they are the ones JH would have played, had he played bass as a main instrument (possibly)
25. They look really nice, but there's something about basses based closely on guitar designs that sits uncomfortably with me. It's irrational of course, as I like the ASAT and the Jaguar, possibly because they have had time to establish themselves as bass designs in their own right, or possibly because they're a bit different from the guitar they're based on. IMO this one looks a bit too much like a Telecaster, just as the Les Paul bass doesn't have enough of it's own identity. I think too much about these things - that new Brian May Bass makes me feel uneasy too. Anyway, ramble over. If you like it, go for it
