1. I'd definitely agree with Kim Deal. The Pixies as a band and and individuals (and as songwriters) had an enormous impact on their genre. Much more so than Kim Gordon IMO
 2. Download them on Spotify, sit down and work out the parts by ear. By the end of the week they should be pretty much under my belt. I'd usually listen while in the car too to familiarise myself with the bass parts.
 3.
Not nice, not a monstrosity, just very, very dull.
Exactly
 4.
Highbury Vale? Hmm, on that basis, has anyone had any Vanderkley cabs stolen today?
I'll have you know it's quite respectable (compared to the rest of Bulwell )
 5. Haha, I know what you mean; I just recorded a little video for the noodle challenge, a happy little jaunt in G major, but I look like I'm about to burst into tears.
 6. I've just popped to the corner shop of our quiet suburban street for some bacon, when I spotted a silver/blue estate driving along the road with Vanderklay cabs in the back (judging by the branded covers) "That's gotta be a basschatter" I think to myself. Does this describe you?... Bald Glasses Smiling Silver/blue estate car Vanderklay cab(s) Driver In Highbury Vale, Nottingham just now. Male Gotta go, bacon's nearly done...
 7.
I have barely played bass since November. Due to upheaval from Christmas and then me deciding to "renovate" my music room, my gear was all packed away and only cracked out again a couple of weeks ago. I played this and thought it was cute. I only recorded it so I would remember it, but I saw this thread and thought bugger it, I'll stick it up! It's the first thing I have recorded in four years (and that had been the first thing in ten). https://soundcloud.com/user5139486/upon-waking I played it on my Cort T-35 (all my other basses are still packed away) through my Behringer V-Amp into Audacity. If I had been thinking of this thread when I recorded it I may have made it a little longer than 21 seconds...
I'm feeling waves gently washing up to shore, it has that ebb and flow
 8. Very nice. I actually quite like the red
 9.
Talking of themes, my theme this month is solo bass... https://soundcloud.com/leonard-smalls/flatricenoodle
Melancholy and full of Eastern Promise - I like it
 10.
Ok here is mine. As the first recorded in the quickest way possible iPad infront of the cab and one quick take well actually this is the second take the first I ballsed up. I call it the Native American lol. http://youtu.be/8BQUxVAXuIE
Cool. It has a nice Talking Heads vibe - a good steady bass line that would make a good song foundation
 11.
Looks like it’s me up first again! Here’s this month’s noodle: https://soundcloud.com/agwin/fretless-tune-march-noodle Played on my defretted Hohner Precision copy strung with dead rounds. Straight into Audacity then “normalised” (what ever that is – just seemed to make it louder) and a bit of phaser added. It just sort of formed it’s self out of thin air after watching a few minutes of Scott Devine expounding on arpeggios. I was subsequently inspired to fire up my Sibelius software and have a bit of a compose. I seem to have ended up with a potential ITV Murder Mystery theme. I’d be chuffed to bits if you could find the time to also give this a listen– It’s not very long about 01:20 in total. https://soundcloud.com/agwin/murder-mystery-tune
Nice. I could hear this on the Twin Peaks series - kind of suspenseful yet playful at the same time.
 12.
I really like that... When you get going into that groove after the initial flurry it really bounces. Great feel to it and jolly too... Everyone tends to go for moody and melancholic, but that's outright cheerful great technique catching and muting the little phrases as well.
Thanks very much! It doesn't sound as tight as it did in my head, so I'm relieved you felt the flow! Upbeat and in major key, it's bound to sound happy - I should have smiled a bit I should get a chance to feedback on 5he other noodles this weekend 👍
 13. I thought I'd give this a whirl! As you can tell, I have no idea how to record bass onto a computer. Basically I plugged the bass into my stereo, set a metronome to 95, pressed record on the iPad and played for one minute. Meanderings in G Major: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xVR6JRvGnS4
 14.
They did their version of You Are My Sunshine. It was stunning. Everybody went wild afterwards and the look on Morgane's face was priceless. I think she was in shock and just couldn't stop grinning. For a pretty big venue they somehow managed to make it feel incredibly intimate.
Sounds suberb!
 15. I love Chris and Morgane's harmonies - they work so well together.
 16. Great stuff! Re volume - up the gain till the peak light blips at a heavy pluck - this was about 2 o'clock on my bass. That made a massive difference in volume compared to the 'default' 12 o'clock setting. Also, remember that the master is logarithmic and really kicks in after 12 o'clock. Look forward to hearing how you get on.
 17. Non angled headstocks Square neck heels Gold hardware Buckeye Burl
 18. Angled headstocks and not-square neck heels. It's become a bit of an irrational deal breaker for me.
 19.
A valve preamp doesn't do the same job as a valve power stage. Pushing an output stage, with its transformers, is not emulated by a valve preamp. Not that a valve preamp is bad at all; it's just not, in itself, a substitute for all-valve. Just my tuppence-worth.
I agree with our esteemed father - a valce pre hybrid amp has much more in common with a solid state amp than a full valve jobby. Where are you Bob the Dog? I have a 100w no name valve amp you could borrow to see if you like them
