I tried a Mooer octave once. Once was enough.

My mate bought one and I had a play for ten minutes or so, both unplugged and through his amp sim software. Seemed to be built to a reasonable standard. I didn't examine the frets and build quality up close, but it played quite comfortably. The tone was pretty good too. A perfectly playable and giggable bass I reckon. Edit: My experience was sitting down, and I have no idea how it balances on a strap.

On the few occasions that I practice amplified at home, I'll go through my stereo. The power amp is 50w per channel, but I go easy on the bookshelf speakers. Sounds lush.

What I love about Signing Off is that it's a self-produced debut album, and it's that very production that makes it. Deep clear bass, soundscapes, dynamics, and Ali Campbell sitting perfectly within the mix, not the centrepiece of the song, but one of many integral parts which combine to make it more than the sum of its parts.

Just two for us: Astral Weeks: Van Morrison Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space: Spiritualized Generally, there is plenty of overlap and we've enjoyed gigs together from Zutons to Fatback band to Alice Russell, but anything too heavy, be it rock, reggae or electronica and she's out of the room.

Just thought I'd seek out a fretless thread to share some thoughts, as I've just started on fretless. Loving it! I'm enjoying the challenge of getting correct intonation - I seem to be doing well, but need more practice down at the nut end where more hand movement is needed within a scale. Also I'm using my eyes a bit too much, but the ears are getting a good workout too. What has surprised me is the different timbre to fretted. Each note sounds so rich! That swell of overtones can almost sound like a phaser with chorus, in the most natural way.

Are these too flashy? OK, I've managed to find some chrome P style knobs with dot markers, so they're on the way. The other thing that is getting in the way of a retro/industrial look is the fancy wood pup covers. I'm going to cover them with mat black vinyl sticker stuff and see what that looks like. It's all easily reversable if I want to go back to the original look.

So Discreet, exactly how are you, erm, stacked?
