1. Lemar off of that Fame Academy! Good song, nice old school soul arrangement Great funky outro from 2:55 http://youtu.be/spIC9Qeaors
2. Usually a very simple major triad line in a I IV progression. I might chuck in the V if I'm feeling feisty.
3. Well, I can think of one reason; it would look frickin awsome.
4. Funny how the Streamliner divides opinions so. I thought it was a pretty good little amp, and it didn't take me long to start pining for it after I traded it for a Shuttle 9.2
5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boss-OC-2-Octaver-hardly-used-/321814118061 Hardly been used as a pedal - maybe Frequently been used as a football - seemingly
6. Not partner, but colleagues. I once knocked up a venn diagram of musical tastes of the people in our workshop: [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/FB_IMG_1438170983202_zpskueyptsg.jpg" class="ipsImage" />

Octaver

I tried a Mooer octave once. Once was enough.
8. My mate bought one and I had a play for ten minutes or so, both unplugged and through his amp sim software. Seemed to be built to a reasonable standard. I didn't examine the frets and build quality up close, but it played quite comfortably. The tone was pretty good too. A perfectly playable and giggable bass I reckon. Edit: My experience was sitting down, and I have no idea how it balances on a strap.
9.
Most common is BEADGC.
That would be common for a normal six string bass, but the Bass VI would normally be EADGBE an octave lower than guitar
10. I use one of these in my rig. Nothing comes close when it comes to headroom and clarity. It's a monster. I paid a fair bit more for mine - this is a bargain!
11. On the few occasions that I practice amplified at home, I'll go through my stereo. The power amp is 50w per channel, but I go easy on the bookshelf speakers. Sounds lush.
12. What I love about Signing Off is that it's a self-produced debut album, and it's that very production that makes it. Deep clear bass, soundscapes, dynamics, and Ali Campbell sitting perfectly within the mix, not the centrepiece of the song, but one of many integral parts which combine to make it more than the sum of its parts.
13.
Ah, well spotted - doesn't explain it being a heavy brick which is where my confusion comes from! Unimpressive amp when pushed though - definitely lacked oomph that my Markbass BB has in spades.
Which is an even better illustration to show that it's not the type of amp, but the design that matters
14.
A 'real world' test where the sound coming out of the cab is measured with different heads is the only way to answer the question but it'll still come down to testing the manufacturer's execution (as Alex pointed out) rather than a definitive A/B > D. My suspicion is that you get what you pay for at the limits of performance on all classes of amp. A really cheap amp must have made compromises in components assuming a relatively competitive market. If you're running a cheap '500W' class D at '100W' then you'd expect it to have no issues laying down long low notes, cranked up to just below clipping and I'd expect/hope the more pricey unit delivers. Question on the A/B vs D debate is what would one expect of an A/B run at it's limits for a long time and would it end up in a puff of smoke rather than nasty clipping and thermal cut-off? I had an A/B Ampeg (PF-500) that used to cut off in practice sessions after about an hour on a warm day. Never had that issue runing longer and harder with the class D Markbass but it proves nothing really!
Isn't the PF500 class D? http://www.ampeg.com/products/portaflex/pf-500/
15. The big test is what albums did you both own when you met? Just two for us: Astral Weeks: Van Morrison Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space: Spiritualized Generally, there is plenty of overlap and we've enjoyed gigs together from Zutons to Fatback band to Alice Russell, but anything too heavy, be it rock, reggae or electronica and she's out of the room.
16. This Chemical Brothers mix of a Spiritualized song. It's pretty long and doesn't kick in properly until about 3:30 but I remember hearing it for the first time and stopped what I was doing to just listen: http://youtu.be/lZ8bfsL-awY
17. Here's my new fretless, a Wood&Tronics EJ:
18. Just thought I'd seek out a fretless thread to share some thoughts, as I've just started on fretless. Loving it! I'm enjoying the challenge of getting correct intonation - I seem to be doing well, but need more practice down at the nut end where more hand movement is needed within a scale. Also I'm using my eyes a bit too much, but the ears are getting a good workout too. What has surprised me is the different timbre to fretted. Each note sounds so rich! That swell of overtones can almost sound like a phaser with chorus, in the most natural way.
19. Are these too flashy? http://basschat.co.u...120-bass-combo/ http://basschat.co.u...05#entry2817005 Both good quality combos and loud enough to have a friendly jam with a guitarist and drummer and then some.
20. Will he be gigging? 50w is practice amp territory
21.
The HD350 sounds better than the TD650 to my ear.
Always glad to see that a trade has gone well Not compared it to the 650, but it is a loud, high quality and very versatile amp.
22. OK, I've managed to find some chrome P style knobs with dot markers, so they're on the way. The other thing that is getting in the way of a retro/industrial look is the fancy wood pup covers. I'm going to cover them with mat black vinyl sticker stuff and see what that looks like. It's all easily reversable if I want to go back to the original look.
