1. Can you remeasure the action please. Sounds a bit high!!
2. I've just been listening to Tower of Power, a seemingly harmless band, only to be reminded that they condone drink driving!!! "I hope it doesn't show while I'm driving down the road that I've had too much to drink" - Down to the nightclub I've alway thought that was quite a charming line which portrays the carefree recklessness of the 70s disco party animal. I'd never drink drive though.
3.
...I hate neck beards!
What's wrong with a good neck beard?
4. I've played it before at weddings and other parties, and it has always gone down a storm. I don't think anyone would see performing this Stones classic as condoning such actions.
5. Top quality head. Very versatile and you can dial in a huge variety of useable tones. The 'Notch' control can be used to eliminate boom in a room (I never really used it TBH) Goes to 2 Ohms, well built. Reputedly better than the HD360 Loud enough. I didn't find the EQ quite as intuitive as, say the Shuttle that it replaced, or the Glockenklang that replaced it, but I'm a bit crap like that. A normal person would figure it out in minutes I'm sure. There are a number of top pros who could choose any amp they want, but gig the HD350.
6. I played a Trace Twin Valve through the Super Twin and it was really nice. The best though was my Red Iron 100w valve amp through a '69er. It's a one off though. Twin Valve would be a good bet. They are loud!
7. I've not followed their pricing but they were Β£74.50 at Thomann when I bought mine almost three years ago. Personally I prefer the Contego to the Mono M80 - the former has been used for every gig and practice since I bought it, and the latter has been gathering dust.
8.
Cool bass.....way out of my price league unfortunately so free bump
Go on Phil, get it. It's only about five Oslo pub lunches worth ;-) I was in the market for a bass for a while, I had my eye out for a Classic SR5 and a Big Al 5, but nothing. Then as soon as I actually buy something else, one of each pops up like magic!
9. Check the B tuner for a Baby's rattle. Or a rattlesnake. You're welcome.
10.
Is a tone bock the same as a tone plate? The Gibson Les Paul Money bass had a walnut tone plate:
My understanding is that it's the thick central block that runs from neck socket to bridge. It seems to be common with semi-hollow bodied basses. I suppose they need somewhere sturdy to fix the neck and bridge.
11. Great synth sound. What pedals are you using?
12.
Jaco Pastorius- The Chicken Cover with 3 different bass! https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1421914688&x-yt-cl=84503534&v=n8B4wKddtlM
Frickin awsome!
13. They are both great amps. Personally I preferred the Streamliner as it has a quality core tone. I see the Shuttle as an extremely versatile blank canvas, with very intuitive EQ. The Shuttle is like a world class impersonator, but it's never quite the real thing IMO
14.
This forum makes me laugh. So if I'd gone ahead with the refin and the electrics mod you'd have all said the equivalent of the current mrs discreet's 'that's nice, dear' and just let me get on with it??
Remember when you were considering doing the same thing to that black G&L? I'd do the same thing that I threatened to do then πŸ˜‰
15. Have you tried Elixir strings before? I have never owned any, but tried a bass recently and loved the feel of the strings, and was told that they were Elixirs. I've been thinking about getting some ever since. What other brands are you familiar with? R Cocco, Rotosound, EB Cobalt and Status What bass(es) will you try the new strings on? (One or both of) W&T Ergon 5 fretted and W&T EJ4 fretless What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing) Home practice (plugged and unplugged) gigging in reggae band. Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings? I play two very different basses, and at home play many genres of music. My amp is the last word in uncoloured transparent purity, so will get a very accurate idea of what the strings are like. Gigging in a reggae band will really test their quality in the (very) low end.
16.
I did have an Oxide as well and agree they are awesome, sold it though and I'm probably after something a little less synthy and that carries the 'fuzz' a bit lower if that makes any sense.
Fair enough. I love the glitchy synth, me ☺🎹
17. That's a great design. Love it!
18.
I bought the Zvex Mastotron on the basis of some good reviews, and that Royal Blood use it... I'm not experienced enough to compare it to many others, but you can get a pretty good range of noises from it (I bet I haven't found half of them yet), and it seems to go pretty cheap second hand. It is slightly larger than a Boss pedal (longer) and is landscape. No clue if it plays with active basses. Just to add another log to the pile...
Mastotron is great and has the impedence control so works well with actives. Good price too, but I disliked the horizontal format. My favourite so far is the Oxide, but you're going up in price a bit.
19.
All my basses are different and need different strap lengths. So the ones I play most have their own straps. The ones that I play rarely don't. Edit - I'm a big fan of Neotech Mega Bass Straps. Really comfy and great with a heavy bass.
I got a Neotech Mega after knackering my shoulder last year - so comfy!
20. Reminds me of a joke about a groupie and some rock bands, where the punchline is "You're only supposed to blow the bloody Doors off"
21. It always seems to be in the city WH Smiths when I don't want it, but never in the airport ones when I want one
22. Last night at a Bob Marley tribute evening. [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-06/FB_IMG_1433676938201_zpslgzauhoa.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
23. A Bob Marley tribute night. I was told well in advance not to bring my amp as one of the bands was sharing theirs. On the day I get a message saying yes, they are sharing amps, but don't actually have a bass player! So much for getting the bus 😑 Anyway, it was a good night with the atmosphere ramping up nicely and our 11:30 set was a great time to go on. We had purposely emphasised the older rootsy stuff for this gig but judged that for an encore they'd like something with a bit more bite, and did a full on jump-up-and-down drum and bass type that really got them going. Wish the whole set had been more uptempo now. The two Bob Marley covers went ok considering we had only practiced them for the first time on Thursday (Lively Up Yourself and Pimpers Paradise) A chap came to introduce himself as the organiser of a festival that we are booked in for un the summer, and had come to check us out. We're still booked so must have been ok πŸ˜€ I had said that the band on after us could use my amp. When setting up the bass player looked a bit confused and concerned at the pre/power/cab setup with no apparent EQ controls. At the end of the gig he was wringing my hand saying how perfect it was and he couldn't wait to play with us next time so that he could use it again 😊 it did sound superb out front.
24. Next gigs are on 3rd and 4th of July. Its ska mental! Friday 3rd is the Summer Ska Spectacular at Spanky Van Dykes in Nottingham. The Saturday it's the Oxjam Skabequeue at The Shed in Leicester.
