It was me. Glad that's been cleared up . Only problem now is I'm at 14 and 26 I won't be bringing the equipment listed at position 14 as I've sold it. I may bring the equipment listed at 26 depending on available room at the venue
Amended :-)

There's not much that will compliment the yellow knobs. Matching yellow is a possibility, but IMO there is already too much Markbass Yellow inflicting the world ;-) Black is pointless, so if you had to change it, I'd vote for full on aluminium chequerplate, which might actually give it a bit of a Hacienda/FAC51 vibe. Actually, you could go further and do the Hacienda diagonal grey and yellow stripes on top
I fear the rest of the band will agree to call him, even though his musical taste is very different fom the band - Dire Staits is not in our set list, and will never be as long as I'm part of it
Was it Mark Knopfler? The Knop doesn't need to prove himself to anyone
Just out of interest, what is your 2 x KT88 head?
It's my somewhat idiosyncratic Red Iron custom, with mods by Champ Electronics. 2x6SL7 in the pre and 2xKT88s in the power. It has a lovely core tone, pretty clean but smooth and gritty when you dig in. Filthy and creamy when driven by a hot bassy signal. I made the case myself, TBH it photographs nicely but is a tad shonky in the flesh ☺ [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/rackbags/aamp_zps2622dd68.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> It's not being used much at the moment as my current band requires mega clean with lots of headroom, but will come out again as soon as something rockier/blusier comes along.

Look forward to seejng this. I have a 100w 2xKT88 head which sounds glorious - nothing quite like it ☺
I'm not entirely convinced about that. The W&T headstock is a disaster. I've concluded that the reason that the 5-strings are mostly strung E-C is that if you put a low B string on, the bottom tuner pushes it so far in towards the E string that when it runs over the nut, it's 50/50 whether it will encounter the first fret or fall off the edge of the fretboard. The E and A strings have huge sideways angles as they pass through the nut. Lovely necks, nice sound, but the obvious lack of thought in something as fundamental as a headstock does make me wonder whether they actually would be able to do a sliding pickup properly.
I've seen you write this before - is this based on one/more you've tried/owned? I've played two W&T 5 strings (both B-G) and no such issues. You're welcome to try mine at the bass bash and see if you encounter the same problem ☺ Edit: just looked at the range, and it seems that the bigger headstocks with angled strings apply to the Zoid and Chronos models, but not to the EJ or Ergon models. I'd be interested to try a Chronos to see if I encounter the same problem. The Zoid body is a bit too radical for me 😁 Here's the Ergon one: [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/17E8D38C-A8CF-42A6-A834-99CFE741C94F_zpsyiwum7gw.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
Well don't sound so surprised about it.
haha, there's a first time for everything 😉
I for one would love to try the same design but done "seriously" ... i.e. with good-quality components (especially the electronics) and using proper double-ball-end strings.
This is why I'm intreagued by the W&T one; if anyone can do it properly, Enrico can ☺ I actually agree with Discreet; I know I would just find the sweet spot for me then leave it there for good. I read the OP question as a quest for the most versatile bass (ie the one with most different tones, rather than one universal one) and the variable pickup bass sprung to mind, not least because I've been perving over the used one for sale at Bass Gear. It's a slightly clunkier looking prototype compared to the final version, but I like the semi-steampunk feel. http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product/wt-custom-single-cut-5/ http://youtu.be/1jfcZHu6_GQ
I think you can tell from the astonishing success of the Westone Rail and the Gibson Grabber just how much this feature has caught the imagination of bassists the world over.
Very true, it didn't take off at all. I wonder whether that was because it was no good, or because people didn't like the look of it. As Ubit says, he wouldn't even consider one because of the aesthetics.
It wouldn't matter to me if one of those had an amazing sound. They look horrible, so I would never consider using one. I think guitars have got to look cool, and a big slider up the middle would spoil it for me!
Haha, yeah. They have refined it as much as possible, but still it's a big block! [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-04/Gal228_337_zpsv57jmzwo.jpg" class="ipsImage" />

I'd be tempted to look into the variable position (sliding) pickup basses that Wood & Tronics do. I'd love to try one to determine whether it's game-changingly versatile, or just a bit gimmicky.
Yep! I have two Peavey Zodiacs.. one is the DE model, the other is a BXP.. I thought they were identical until I put Entwistle neo pickups in both (and the same strings, Elixir stainless). They are noticeably different! The white one sounds more aggressive in the upper mids and the black one sounds "cleaner", more solid. The difference is even bigger once you apply some overdrive. Since the body woods are both painted and glossed the only thing I can think of as being different is the wood underneath!
I scientifically conclude that black basses sound cleaner than white ones. Fact. No exceptions.
If you are really after something that changes the sound of the bass as little as possible I would look at an Avalon DI going into a high quality PA power amp feeding a full-range PA cab.
That's pretty much my rig (although the cab is not strictly full range, as it rolls off at around 4kh) It'll be at the Midlands Bash if anyone wants to find out what their bass really sounds like ☺

Will you be holding aloft your phone's candle/lighter app when they play 'Wonderful Tonight'?

The Shuttle is very transparent. The best 'plug n play' transparent integrated amp I've ever had was the Glockenklang Soul. When researching this, it seems most users (myself included) bypassed the EQ altogether, such was the quality of the uncoloured core tone. The only reason I moved it on was an irrational need for acres of headroom. The Glockenklang Heart Rock 2 would be my ideal one-box solution. Re. Cabs, another +1 for Barefaced, Super Twin in my case
