I started a thread on this recently (possibly in the Technical Issues forum) as a friend was having this issue. It turned out that loosening and retightening the neck screws did the trick. Edit: Found it ☺ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254993-dead-spot/page__fromsearch__1

You pay to see a band play, but don't own the band - same concept. To those who have enjoyed the gig, it's money well spent.

Selling on Basschat, a suggestion to the MODs
Roland Rock replied to bassface2k10's topic in General Discussion
Are you trying to imply i'm stupid with the "Duh!" comment It was a suggestion thats all, no need to be rude about it now is there
My impression was that it wasn't aimed at you, rather a way of expressing that he himself was stating the obvious ☺ -
When you get compliments on your playing
Roland Rock replied to anaxcrosswords's topic in General Discussion
The sax player of the ska band that we supported tonight mentioned my 'nice bass work'; a compliment made all the more pleasing as this chap is a former member of UB40 and has also played with Sly and Robbie! I just kind of awkwardly said thanks and changed the subject -
Great, thanks for the info ☺
I've played quite a few W&T basses and think that Enrico Pasini is an excellent builder. As mentioned above, pretty much every one is a custom build and made to order so each one is going to be individual. Well worth checking one out if you get the chance
Hi Molan, What's that variable pickup position prorotype one like in BG?
I didn't like the bloody woman! We even had hate-sex while drunk. And there is no way I could enjoy the Eagles, then or now!!
I think that you have suppressed the memory, but you actually shared the flat with Mick Hucknall

Oh, and oval pickups!

I'm easy on most things, but am developing an irrational dislike of non-angled headstocks and square neck heels

We played one in Leicester recently - just the other bands as audience, terrible mis-match of genres. On the bright side though, the owner was very complimentary and has now asked us to play support at a (hopefully/supposedly) busy ska night - exactly the sort of thing we're after. So the moral? You need to get out there to get known, but dont get stuck in a rut.
Sponges are porous, ergo rosewood is spongier!
Yes, but I don't think one can describe the more dense, less soft wood as 'spongier' just because it is more porous.
You can see visible gaps in the grain with rosewood, plus it soaks up lemon oil like a, er, sponge!
No arguments there, like I said in my post, rosewood is the more porous.
The string might not be touching the board, but the fret transfers vibration directly to the board. The softer, more flexible or porous this board material is, the greater the damping effect on the vibration. Imagine if your board was made of sponge. The frets would wobble about, taking energy away from the string, which then gets dampened by the sponge. It would have a similar effect to playing with foam mutes. Since rosewood is more 'spongey' than maple, this is exactly why it sounds darker, it's just that the difference is a lot more subtle.
All makes sense, except that rosewood is definitely more dense and less 'spongey' than rosewood. I know this from having worked with both woods a fair bit. A quick Google confirms this; density of maple = 39-47 lb/ft3, density of Rosewood = 50-55 lb/ft3 Edit: strangely enough, despite being more dense, rosewood is more porous. No Idea how this has a bearing on tone

Being softer than rosewood, I'd have thought that maple would be LESS bright than rosewood 😕 This should especially be the case when comparing a one piece maple board to rosewood laminated onto a neck. There are so many variables however, that even swapping a neck can't be a true controlled experiment

Nice. Love the retro styling too

...and just spotted that he has actually reported it to admin after all. Hope he gets the help he needs. If I was ripped off by a BCer in Lithuania, I wouldn't know where to begin

I feel that this issue needs a bit more exposure to see if the problem can be resolved. It's unclear whether the mods have officially been informed, and I thought it might be helpful to get advice from a wider audience: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257250-warwick-6-string-streamer-stage-1-flamed-maple-natural/page__pid__2746668__st__30#entry2746668
My Yamaha BB feels like to should cost £ 600
I'm hoping that's a good thing? Not so good if it's a BB2024x 😉

You'll need better pics, but if this is probably the best VFM you will ever come across http://basschat.co.uk/topic/259969-lakland-5501/page__gopid__2746714#entry2746714

What is your standard gigging set up and sound?
Roland Rock replied to FuNkShUi's topic in General Discussion
Bass: EQ flat and pickup blend on 50/50 (or solely bridge pup in humbucker mode for a couple of the less reggae songs) Amp: Avalon U5, tone section bypassed, but 'high cut' button in all the time. Crest power amp volume as required. BF super twin I've learned that cutting the frequencies you don't want sounds much better than boosting the frequencies you do. And headroom. Lots of headroom. -

Funny things that people say to you at gigs

Playing 'The Weight' at a pub in Darwin only to have a gaggle of rowdy outback drunks cheer every time we sang "Take a load off Annie" - turns out they thought it was hilarious as it sounds like "fanny"
