1. Do you have an agreed band split? Who did that £24 get paid to? You? The way I read it, you have taken ownership of the PRS thing on behalf of the band (for that year at least) so as far as PRS are concerned you own all the rights to the songs. That is your money, and you are not obliged to share it. Was there a verbal arrangement where you would act on behalf of the band then share out the money? In which case you have a moral obligation to share it as agreed. Talk to the band about who wants to bother registering with PRS and filling in the forms. Agree a split among those people and then everyone who cares about the money will get a fair share.
2. Wow, that 100 Club gig sounds perfect - I can almost feel the buzz from here! We played at a pub in Sheffield last night. The first point is that the organizer was sh*t - bad communication: - Gear share was a guess despite repeated requests. It ended up ok, except the drum kit had no means of attaching toms. He didn't think to mention this. - The lineup changed after a band pulled out. He didn't tell anyone about the new times - The lineup was terribly incompatible (He had initially billed the Eva Cassidy style singer to headline, just after the loud indie rock band) - There were no posters, and noone on the door to take money - He didn't even show up! Anyway, luckily we had a number of people coming to see us, a surprisingly large amount considering we were in a different city. There was a brilliantly quirky electronica duo called The Dirty Tactics who I loved - really brilliant. Our set went very well - tight as a button and new song Pressure played for the first time was brilliant. We had a great reception, encore etc. All in all, a good gig, despite the best efforts of the non-existent promoter
3. IMO his playing reached a creative high point on the Abbey Road album. Here's 'something' to get you started: http://youtu.be/IrW7dlDHH28
4. Next public gig is at The Maze, Mansfield Rd, Nottingham. The main attraction is a DJ set by Josh from The Skints, with various bands playing, including us :-)
5.
@ Roland Rock, post no. 2 Can't work out whether that's a serious comment or not. Either way, it's not very helpful, is it?
The winking smiley was supposed to denote that it was a joke. Obviously I don't know you at all, but it's worth at least thinking about the fact that you are the common factor in all of these failed bands. It was supposed to be hyperbole, and I wouldn't dare actually speculate about you being an insufferable ballache, or lacking a sense of humour or whatever. Best of luck.
6. Duff duffs it up at 2:40 http://youtu.be/ogxmYA3l6DA
7. The above gig is tomorrow night, for some reason The Sunbeams are not playing, not sure about a replacement
8. Kool Keith from 1999 - this dude was ahead of his time http://youtu.be/GqAmDGaK3Is
9.
They've had that logo since the mid-70s at least.
Fair enough, so maybe they were ahead of their time, but I'd say that that style was popularised in the 80's rock scene and that's the association that many will have. Well, me at least
10. I used an old battered Peacey 1x15 Combo at a practice room on Tuesday night. It had fantastic high and low shelving filters which enabled a great tone very quickly. It was slightly worrying how great this thing sounded considering I've spent god knows how much finding the prefect amp. Why are they failing? It's that spiky 80s hair metal logo!
11.
I'd still like a Big Al 5 SSS, probably in white with a maple board, they just dont appear used in any colour
If a black/black/maple one comes up, I'll fight you for it ;-)
12. I can give my experience of two different Crown power amps - the XTi (class AB) and the XLS (class D) Both were great for bass, as are most proper PA power amps. They are both extremely transparent. In the end, I kept the XTi as I felt that it had the edge on quality of tone. There was just something about the XLS (possibly psychological) that seemed a tad 'empty'
13. In pursuit of the ultimate quality clean tone, I tried all sorts of amps, but settled on a pre/power setup. It sounds fantastic, has miles of headroom and is very transparent. What pre and power amps do you have in mind?
14.
The cheapest one? Not great, there's a marked improvement on the 3+ and the Hero 4. I bought a cheap microphone (£15) to plug in and that made a difference. Cool Cat in Town: http://youtu.be/uT65mshElhM
Thanks. Was that recorded with the bog standard Hero plus the cheap mic?
15. Thanks for those. Will have a listen through some proper speakers in a bit :-)
16. I'm thinking of getting one of those £95 GoPro cameras with a view to recording the band at rehearsals and gigs, and also creating timelapse videos at my work. Has anyone recorded their band with these? Is the microphone good enough to reproduce decent bass?
17. I suppose it depends how you define 'premium'. The top selling car makers in the UK are (for the sake of argument) Ford, Vauxhall and Nissan, but they are not what is call premium brands.
18. I'd probably get one to keep in my gig bag. If it cost around £3
19. I'm not aware of many videos of my playing, but here is a short little blues/soul number (Erica Badu cover) with an enjoyable little group called Open Eyes a few years back. http://youtu.be/jEa_wbBBIgU
20. Usually I don't like fancy woods, basses without scratchplates, or unlined fretless, but thats a lovely bass!
