1. Seriously, get this - it will sound infinitely better than a bass amp, and a total bargain: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252508-mission-cyrus-one-hifi-power-amp-25wch/page__pid__2649721#entry2649721
2.
hee haw == Scottish term for nothing. "Spare any change, mate?" "Sorry, I've got hee haw". http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hee+haw
Makes more sense than braying like a donkey! Thanks
3.
God knows I am doing hee haw and enjoying it.
I have no idea what this means. Is this an auto correct error, or some sort of phrase I've never heard before? Are you enjoying braying like a donkey? If so, why? We must know!
4. I hadn't heard that song before. It's not really my thing, but I definitely detected a hint of Phil Lynott style phrasing in his vocal delivery. Which is nice.
5.
...a bit of boogie-woogie piano would have improved his set though.....
File under 'things no-one has ever said before in the history of mankind'
6. Well, I got the CD for Christmas and have managed to listen through only once so far (busy holiday) I'm liking what I hear. Very, very Sly Stone. It's a kind of dissonant soupy mixture of gooey bass and staccato funk with unorthodox rhythms, harmonies and textures. I would go so far as to draw a comparison with Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica - not so much in terms of the music itself, but in the feeling that this is a unique character creating an eccentric work that no one else on earth could have done - straight from the twisted soul. Definitely needs plenty more listens, and I'd need to be in the right mood, but this is one seriously interesting album.
7. Hmm, I think I must have expensive tastes. There are only one each of bass, head and cab that I'd really want from the marketplace, and they total £3,850! If it was a hurried buy for a gig on a 1k budget, I'd go for: Bass Collection 5 string £250 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251490-bass-collection-sgc-nanyo-315-5-string-1991/page__pid__2646781#entry2646781 Carvin head £300 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251659-carvin-bx700-lightweight-flexible-powerful-head-on-hold/page__pid__2644931#entry2644931 and the BF Compact £400 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250971-ft-barfaced-compact-2nd-generation/page__pid__2643330#entry2643330 Total = £950 Should do the job nicely :-)
8. Our 500th liker seems to be BCs own Len Derby! Consequently he can expect a UJahm treat in the post! Thanks again everyone for helping us hit the monkey
9. I've just had a flick through some of last night's Hootenanny show. Some promising guests on there. High points for me were Paolo Nutini and Ruby Turner. I must confess I think I'm developing a bit of a man crush on Paolo; he is young, good looking and very very talented. His latest album is superb and his true passion for music shines through on it. On Jools, it was the Scream song - great band and a very well executed breakdown over a lovely synth bass foundation. Love it. I think it was Ruby Turner who I found a bit irritating and contrived on a previous Jools show. This time it was pure gospel building to a rousing climax which had the whole room going. When it came to the 'legends' such as William Bell, Boz Scaggs and Wilco, maybe you had to experience their heyday to acquire a respect for their talent? I'll be diplomatic and say that personally I was quite underwhelmed with their music :-( Nice to see NWR playing with Wilco though :-)
10.
In and Out: Various. No-one reads these lists anyway.
Sadly, I reckon I could have a stab at your list
11. Thanks everyone who has liked UJahm, we're on 497 now, so hopefully will hit the monkey soon (not a euphemism) I've been liking bands as the thread progresses.
12. Another year of no basses in or out for me. Apart from a blip in 2012 (bought a five string) it has been that way since 2001. Amps are a different matter....
13. It might be worth putting an ad on BC to see if anyone with a grille cab wants to swap.
14.
I'm in! Will do likes in a mo https://www.facebook.com/discoprophets Live disco band looking for functions and weddings in 2015 in E Mids and S Yorks If you want to check us out live and come to a great party, we're doing free party for New Years Eve at Pitcher & Piano, High Pavement in Lace Market, Nottingham
Apparently my accountant already likes you :-)
15.
Hi something strange with this link as your page looks different and I can't find the like button This looks better https://www.facebook.com/Ujahmband?fref=ts
Cheers mate, and thanks for the like. Off sledging now, but will go through the links later!
16. I'll go through the above today and do some 'likes' I already have a few of the Nottingham ones on my FB such as Wrists and T5E We play a kind of 'urban reggae' which hopefully you'll dig: https://m.facebook.com/Ujahmband?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FUjahmband
17. We have three singles lined up for release, so hopefully a bit more radio play of those. Other than that, I'd like to play a couple of stomping festival slots. Oh, and more recording in the summer.
18. Wow, lots of great stuff there, I've left some comments in SC, but will have to have a few more listens to pick a favourite. Well done everyone
19. I know a man who has, as part of his HiFi setup, an Isotek power conditioner. I think that they are about £2,500.
20. "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and if I get a link that's stronger, then the whole chain will be stronger" Bad logic.
21.
But in those times in the 90s it was "cool" to pretend to not know anything technical at all, remember? I used to buy Guitarist magazine at the time and I would dispair... all the BS "oh, I don't know what I'm playing"...
Yeah, like I say, asking the tech was a rhetorical gesture - not genuine, just done to make a point.
22.
A local BCer was selling an EBS Multicomp for cheap, so I bought it to see what compressors did. No matter what setting I used, I couldn't hear any difference. I sold it on, and the buyer gave feedback about what a great compressor it is. So I'm none the wiser.
My view on compressors has changed now! I bought a Fairfields The Accountant to act as a limiter, but am very impressed with the other ways that it can be used - an impressive and very useful pedal!
23. Great idea with the tin. I have my plectrums in an old tobacco tin which would fit perfectly on a corner of my board.
