1. Really liking the collaboration between David Byrne and St Vincent: http://youtu.be/hpPYKJAnwUo And this St Vincent song with ritious synth bass http://youtu.be/wZkP0HLShMc
2.
Well mine is cracking
Sounds worrying ;-)
3. Yeah, like I say I don't really get boom either but it's just an excuse to have a play with the software. TBH apart from rehearsal rooms, I haven't used my rig without PA for over a year!
4. I bought Bellybutton last year but TBH I found the album to be a real mixed bag, with a lot of songs that I could take or leave. However, when they get it right, they are superb. Favourites of mine are 'Now she knows she's wrong', 'The Man I used to be' and 'Bedspring Kiss' As an additional observation, he can sound very John Lennon at times, although Mrs RR disagrees with me on that :-( Thanks for the above, looks well worth checking out
5. Good to know I'm on the right track Bill. Maybe I'll adjust the cuts to -9db if that's your proven method. I tend to leave my amp's EQ flat, but even with those presets I could still tweak the EQ either on my bass or on the preamp. I'm looking forward to having a try.
6. I've just been playing with my power amp and thought I'd share my experiences in case it's of interest or benefit to others. I have a Crown power amp, and there are several factory presets, but I always wanted to see how to create my own on the computer and sync with the power amp. There is a confusing array of software related to Crown. First I tried Band Manager, but it never loaded up successfully. Then I tried System Architect, but it wouldn't recognize that a device was connected. Finally I tried Audio Architect, and after a simple-to-execute firmware update, all was ready to go. The plan was to create a series of 'Boombusting' presets, i.e. cutting a specific frequency with each preset to try to eliminate any boom. As I understand it, the different shapes and sizes of venues may cause unwanted bass boom. The boom can originate anywhere between 80-250 Hz, and finding out the exact frequency can be a lucky dip. So, I've created five 'boombusting' presets as follows: -6db@80Hz -6db@120Hz -6db@160Hz -6db@200Hz -6db@250Hz If I do detect boom in the room, I'll try each of these presets until it vanishes, leaving clean, smooth pure bass. That's the theory anyway. Here's a screenshot showing how to set the EQ: To be honest, it was more an exercise in having a play with the amp's capabilities - I don't get bad boom, but I'll have a play with the presets anyway, and it's nice to know that I can bust that boom should the need ever arise.
7. Bumping Friday's gig. If you like a bit of reggae and hip hop, lemmie know and I'll put you on the list for a fiver entry
8. Dan bought a Moog expression pedal from me. His communication was great and all went like clockwork. I'd happily deal with him again.
9. The fabulous Cody ChesnuTT. This one could have come straight off Marvin Gaye's What's Going On album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHBqWnKIZwo
10. If you need a hand, give me a shout - you live within walking distance of my workshop!
11. I had a Twin Valve for a while and really liked it. It was easy to carry, easy to get a filthy tone, and easily as loud as the average 500w SS amp. Also, not only does it resemble a Dualit toaster, but the top gets so hot you can make toast on it :-D
12.
Yep, 'Animal's Right Shoulder' Karl
Haha, nice
13.
Here's a sample of the intial debossing. I have one each of the letters in the set and can stamp up to three characters at once. The tan takes debossing well, as the leather compresses and turns a little darker.
Letters indicating the section of cow the leather comes from ;-)
14. I've just had a look and have sold about £2,000 worth of gear on the last year on BC. Had I done that through EBay, I'd have paid over £200. That makes the £20 fee pretty attractive. Plus it all goes towards the maintence and development of the forum.
15. Talkbass member since August 2006 - posts: 9 Basschat member since December 2010 - posts: 3,500 That pretty much sums it up for me
16. Quite chuffed that local radio seem to dig it. Check out this DJ from a show this evening: https://soundcloud.com/ujahm-band/kemet-fm-big-up-ujahm
17. Dood, it kind of looks like there are rivits on the top edge - I assume those are reflections?
18. I'm not usually a fan of Warwicks or burl tops, but that is quite gorgeous
19. Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique - it just oozes creativity
20.
The purple battering ram!
FS, Purple Battering Ram, bedroom use only
21. I played a Marlin Sidewinder for three years, with no awareness of the concept of a setup, and no awareness that 8mm action was a bad thing. I happily gigged it and even recorded with it. I think that this may be why I've never regarded any subsequent bass to be 'unplayable' Not sure what this has to do with GP :-D
22. Crazy God of Hellfire rocker Arthur Brown, when he removes his face paint, is actually comedian Arthur Smith
