1.
The Hercules hanger holding my precision decided to detach itself from the wall suddenly last night, damaging the bass as it smashed into the floor. That was fixed into brick with screws & plugs - f*** knows how it came away. Won't be using wall hangers anymore.
sh*t, that's worrying! Hope the damage isn't too bad
2.
Bumping this thread - can anyone especially recommend one make of hanger over another? Or any to stay away from? I see one of the Hercules ones (on Amazon) has a load limit of 7kg / 15.4 lb, which is P-bass territory isn't it? Unfortunately, not all models have a load limit stated. Thanks
Interesting about load limits. I would have thought that the fixings used, and the wall that you're fixing it to would be the main variables. I'd be nervous about plasterboard unless you can drive some nice big screws straight into the stud. I've heard of the odd late '70s P getting towards 15lbs, but from reading various threads on the subject, the vast majority of Ps are under 10lbs
3. You look pretty fresh for someone who can remember the early '60s! Great looking bass - I agree that not many can rock the violin shape and look good (Macca and Robbie Shakespeare are the only ones I can think of)
4. Here's a nice little behind the scenes video with Peter Hook demonstrating how to play the iconic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' bass line proper like... http://youtu.be/yOsL16fcBXs
5. Exactly what Yellow Car says - there are plenty of manageable 100watters out there, so why compromise? Sell both and buy one of the offerings from Marshall/Matamp/Ampeg/Ashdown
6. That's really nice, thanks for posting. I love the Jackson Five cover that they do too. Oddly enough, this one makes me think of the Black Crowes - just their style.
7. I've been having fun with the DubSiren DX iPhone app. Tap tempo delay, easy to control the various sirens, and a library of dancehall DJ samples. You can play along to a great list of dub radio stations. Hours of fun!
8. I really liked mine - the only reason I got rid is because it was too similar to my valve amp. I agree about the build quality; I love that thick machined aluminium front plate.
9. Pink? no problems. Pearloid of any colour? Never.
10. Here's me busking with an Epiphone El Capitan. I seem to be wearing a rubber pig nose too, but don't remember why. The Epiphone was a nice enough bass, but when playing in the street, I remember having to use a plectrum and pluck hard to get any sort of projection. Saying that, it was perfect for accompanying the acoustic guitar in a chilled out jam round a campfire or beach etc.
11.
Teenage rebellion ? More reminds me of long nights.....um.....'meditating' with a lava lamp
Haha, I've edited to clarify a bit more :-)
12.
Heavens End by Loop ?
BOOM! That's the one. Thanks very much. I've just listened to it at work, and the memories of teenage moody rebellion came flooding back*. Funny how the name switched in my head from 'loop' to 'wire' :-D I'm pleased to discover that's it's the same as I remember, and a good album which doesn't seem to have dated at all. Thanks B.I.A.P and especially Ahpook :-) *Growing my hair as close to a Curehead as my school would allow, getting my mum to help tie die my t shirts, listening to lots of Carter USM and Mega City Four, and not revising for my GCSEs.
13.
Skinny Puppy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinny_Puppy
Thanks Clarky. I did come across them when searching for album with the Hal samples, but pretty sure that's not it. This music was more indie fuzz, less beat-driven and not electronic at all* *from memory
14. I'm hoping that the BC Indie Aficionado Posse can help with a memory from my teens. I had an album on tape around 1990. I'm sure it had 'Wire' scribbled on it, but listening to Wire now I'm sure that's not right. Here's what I know, or what my memory tells me: - I had the tape in 1990, so think it dates from then, or the late '80s -The album was interspersed with samples of Hal from the film 2001: A Space Oddesy - The music was extremely fuzz guitar. Think Jesus and Mary Chain mixed with Spiritualized That's it. Any help gratefully received!
15. Just browsing the other bands that have played at our next gig venue, and came across Jeramiah Ferrari. They look pretty good, with a nice tight rhythm section and a charismatic singer. I particularly like this Sam Cooke cover - a nice reggae bounce yet retaining the soulfulness: http://youtu.be/bsWpZ1nxSis

17. On a pedalboard? If there was something that small, I'm sure there would be a market. If it was that good, I'd like to see powered cabs with these fitted inside
18. Poster for gig at The Hop Pole:
19. You mention that the B string has a low action, but this is not necessarily conducive to better tone. In fact, I've found that raising the action a bit can actually be beneficial.
20. If it helps, I've had both the MF101 and the Xerograph. They are both great pedals. To me the MF101 was a bit more natural/less synthy sounding, which can be great. It's also very easy to get nice useable sounds from. Noise was never an issue for me, like Luke says, it's fine live. The Xerograph is a bit more unwieldy. The oscillating squeals and resonance boost can be absolutely brutal, so you need to be a bit more careful. With care though, you can get some lovely settings which are a bit more synthy than the MF101 IMO. I now use a Xerograph because it's smaller, easy to power, and sounds great. If I was twiddling settings on the gig, and had no space constraints, I'd happily use the MF101, even if it is a bit more 'polite'.
21. Oops, sorry, I think I've broken the mixing challenge!
