1.
Good afternoon, Chris... I think you're being overly hard on yourself here. I'm not 'in', this month, either, but for entirely technical reasons. I'll be putting up more details in the Compo Challenge topic, but my poor system is not up to the task, despite several attempts, and so I've had to bow to the inevitable and desist from entering. No, it's not the subject, which, quite the opposite, provided a real challenge to those unaccustomed to this genre. That's why we're here, in fact; to get to grips with stuff we're not normally exposed to..! I'm eager to hear what the others come up with, and equally eager to be able to get a working, stable DAW platform up and running. Once that's done, I'll be running your stems through their paces, Challenge or no Challenge. Might be a while though..!
Thanks Dad, yes I guess dub/reggae is a whole different kettle of fish in terms of production and, understandably, many won't have time to fully embrace the challenge. I'm excited to hear whatever entries are submitted though, as well as your mix once it's done :-)
2. I anticipate that people will reply saying that 'flat' is not just EQ at 12oclock, and there are many other variables when it comes to tone. But I'm guessing that you're referring to 'flat' as in zero cut/boost on your amp's EQ section? I'm a recent convert to this, and bypass my preamp's EQ and have never been happier with my tone.
3.
Unfortunately I have got nowhere with this , and I don't think I will get a chance either , so for the first time in ages I am going to have to duck out on the mix challenge , good luck all .
That's a shame :-( I didn't think that the song was THAT uninspirational ;-)
4. Have a look at this thread, it may help... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/239721-genz-benz-stl-90-with-case-spares-or-repairs/page__p__2484793__hl__spares__fromsearch__1#entry2484793

6. 10% experience 10% feel 20% character 60% Van
7. Busking in Perth, Australia, 2000. I'm not sure what the pig nose is all about, but I do remember that the set list included Don't Bogart That Joint and Deeply Dizzy
8.
ML pulls some gurns
Who is ML?
9. ^ that Gibson is very cool looking
10. Difficult to operate whilst playing bass, but these look like soooo much fun. Does anyone have one? http://youtu.be/1flbALWrQoY http://www.instructables.com/id/Dub-siren/ http://www.rigsmith.co.uk/NEW/DUB_SIREN_SHOP_GUIDES.php
11. Assuming you're not putting it through a 1x8 cab, yes!
12. Another famous Canadian below. The Radial DI - superbly built, magnificent from bottom end to top, and can be a real lifesaver: http://youtu.be/Z9UPh7KKyfs
13. Definitely fine, 0000 would do the job http://www.axminster.co.uk/liberon-steel-wool
14. Dave Hall is one: http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page48.html
15. The limiter is usually hooked up to the mains circuit in that room, so that it cuts the power once you've gone into the red. If at all possible, try to subtly (or with management permission) get your power from an adjoining room via extension leads. Or switch the limiter off. They are a serious pain - we had one cut the power after the first snare strike while setting up
16. I think that Iron Ether went through a bit of a bad patch a while back, when -They had to retro fix people's bleed-issue Subterrenas, which in turn led to a big backlog of normal orders, and excruciating wait times. -Then they stopped taking new orders altogether, an awful decision to have to make :-( -Then they re-opened offering normal service but added custom colour options. Now it seems that they are moving towards an off-the-shelf sales model (see below from the website) and away from bespoke. At least it means that you can buy the pedal and it will be shipped immediately. It makes sense, but I'm glad that I got my Subterrenea order in before this, as I had a specific colour in mind (actually no colour, just the silver), and I don't mind waiting for it. Here's hoping that this move puts the company back in people's good books :-) "Instead of building pedals to order for you, I’ll be taking a different approach from now on, building things in advance and putting them up with individual photos or batch photos on [third-party website to be determined]. Custom colors or designs to your specs will therefore not be offered, but there will no longer be a wait of a month or more, and more exciting, I’ll be making things that were not previously available, including: Strange things Mysterious things Iron Ether favorites with special new features Stylish visual designs and finishes New pedals Eurorack modules"
17. Where's best for the conventional (solderable) right angled 'low profile' (flat) plugs? This type, with guaranteed quality. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hosa-IRG-100-5-Low-Profile-Right-Angle-1-4-Jack-Patch-Cable-6-/281343823905 I've had a few where the jack column can rotate in its casing - not sure that's a good thing?
18.
Has anyone heard from Howard recently, I haven't since May 26th... Hope he's okay?
This will explain... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/239649-has-anyone-heard-from-bassdoc/page__pid__2484350#entry2484350
19. That was a great picture, as it obviously created a lot of inspiration. As the first voter, it's no big secret that I've voted for Dad this time round. Marvellous stuff. There was a lot of top quality composition there, well done everybody.
20. A top end DI at a price available to the Common People: http://youtu.be/ainyK6fXku0
21. Of course it worked well - the balloons were in a 'frowny' face position. Had they been in a scooped 'smiley' face position, you'd have been completely lost in the mix.
22. If it helps, here are some specs for the Big Ben: 23"W x 30.5"H x 18.5"D 73 lbs. 400 Watts RMS 8 Ohms Response Suggested Amplifiers -6dB @ 25Hz and 3kHz
23.
Well done! Though I'm very surprised it took two months to shift, considering!
Seven weeks of that it was on hold, only for the sale to fall through!
24. Gary just bought my '69er cab. The prior sale had fallen through with great disappointment, but this one was plain sailing. Lovely chap, no messing about, great communication and came to pick up with cash in hand. I'd happily deal with him again :-)
