1. I think it's Pharrell Williams. 'Good' means different things to different people. There are some songs that people rave about, and I can't fathom why. Conversely, I was playing an album which I see as quirky and funky, and a chap walks in from the next unit and says "This music is sh*te - it's the sort of depressing crap that smack heads sit round all day nodding their heads to" - an utterly bizarre viewpoint to me. Perhaps the others are more into the overall vibe and atmosphere, and are therefore more forgiving of a weak vocal performance?
 2.
Dnt think the oc-3 has an octave up dude does it? Andy
My understanding is that it's octave down only, but has a polyphonic function, so it can do chords as well as single notes
 3. 'coccinelle' is French for Ladybird, I believe. Perhaps that's the source if the confusion
 4.
I thought that "arctic" cable simply retains its flexibility at low temperatures, which is a different thing to being more flexible at room temperature. I think whizzzy has it right about H07. It's specifically recommended for stage applications. http://www.h07rnfcable.co.uk/
Cheers for that. In this instance, Canford say that this arctic cable "at normal temperatures ...are very limp and flexible"
 5.
I got a vote, I got a vote
;-)
(Limps off, muttering... "...and to think I once came joint first, eh..? What am I doing wrong..? Should I, too, join Facebook..? Am I no longer 'hip'..? Maybe a hip replacement is in order. Where's me slippers..?)
It was really close Dad. You were in my 'elite five'
 6.
A graphic EQ is still an effective form of sonic correction / tone shaping whether fashionable or not IMO..
I agree - it's a very visual/intuitive way to shape tone
 7.
Just remember that the OC-3 doesn't sound like the OC-2 at all. Do yourself a favour and just buy the OC-2 Si
I bought it on the strength of the wet tone from a YT vid. If it doesn't do it for me, I'll follow your advice :-)
 8.
Les Creusets?
I don't think they are that heavy
 9.
YES! Go and stand in the corner you heretic!
OK, I'll go to the naughty corner :-p :-D PS -While you were out, Bruce Springsteen called - he wants his cutoff denim jacket back
 10.
If you're happy to make up your own cables then you could look into "Arctic PVC" cables. It is designed to stay flexible down to -20 C which means that at "normal" temperatures it has a soft and very flexible feel. http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/33-320_FLEXIBLE-MAINS-3-core-0.75-sq.mm-Black-Arctic-PVC
That looks spot on, thanks
 11. I was talking about mains power lead. For a quality guitar lead, I go to Rock Wire. Dave will make you a top notch cable for a reasonable price. http://www.rock-wire.uk.com
 12. Would it be unfair to suggest that multiple/slidey EQ sections are seen as a bit dated?
 13. That's good to know! Thanks chaps :-)
 14. Not heard of the Avatar, and doubt many would on this side of the pond. About nine years ago I bought a little-known cab from the States, and it was really, really good. Two things to consider are: - You'll need to factor in postage and tax/import charges - No matter how good it is, if you ever want to sell it on in this country, you'll take a big hit, as people only tend to pay for brands that they are familiar with. Edit: if you live in the US, ignore the above :-D
 15. As long as you don't palm mute, I'd say tort with the ashtray. Proper retro. The jazz you tried at the bash wasn't zero9's Warmouth/Status job, was it? That was a lovely bass!
 16.
^ this the tuners especially look like a determined relic job + while being no expert I think in 1969 they were still on tug-bars ratrher than thumb-rests.
There are tugbar screwholes (at least there are on the scratchplate) so it could just have been moved
 17.
One of the great pleasures in life is a proper power stage. Endless headroom and instant transient delivery is totally where it is at. I used to run 3Kw bridged into an Eden 410XLT. Every note was a joy.
Do you still have your Avalon U5 Owen? I don't suppose you know the output voltage?
 18.
Used this over the weekend for a festival show: Fromel modded Boss CE-2B -> Blakemore Deus Ex Machina -> DOD FX-10 Bi-Fet Pre -> Boss OC-2 -> Boss TU-2 Si
How come you put the tuner at the end Si?
 19. I've played the intro/chorus to this song by using a 'tap'n'slide' technique with both hands - - start by tapping your right index finger on the 17th fret of the G string (C ), and your left index finger on the 3rd fret of the E string (G) - simultaneously slide down to the 9th fret on the G string (E), and up to the 8th fret on the E string (C ) - then simultaneously slide up to the 14th fret on the G string (A), and down to the first fret on the 1st fret on the E string (F) It's surprisingly effective The verses I just tried played the line fingerstyle, getting as close as possible to the double bass part's feel.
 20.
Expect lots of suggestions of the Jazz Bass kind.
Understandable
Quite taken by contoured jazz style shapes like these
21. Bugger - this is going to take a while. I went through them, thinking 'that's the one', then another 'the one' came along, then three more! So, I've narrowed it down to five - will need to have a few more runs through. Well done composers - you are all very talented and knowledgable
 22.
Ashdown are a good example. Continually slated for sounding woolly or as if someone is holding a blanket to the cab...
.... the definitive blanket statement
 23.
My cupboard doesn't have a door, it's more of a display area:
Ah, that's different. Display area basses are all great. I remember your build diary for this - cool little space
 24.
Opinions go bad and get my nose out of joint when they are paraded around as fact. I try to be really careful not to do this these days - I'm sure in the past I've jumped on the "wooly Ashdown" bandwagon based upon the experience of clapped out gear in rehearsal rooms for example. No more though. If I think it's good, then it is good - in my little bubble. I will shy away from making blanket statements about the output of a particular brand, model, factory, country of manufacture etc. because I can categorically state that I lack the statistical oversight of the entire group being discussed to make any such proclamations. I can say with 100% certainty that the 10 basses in my bass cupboard are the best 10 basses in my bass cupboard though Anything else I say can and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't expect everyone to agree with me and my love of Gibson basses for instance (part of the appeal for me is the championing of the underdog anyway), but I will take grave exception to anyone who has the impudence/arrogance to make blanket statements about the quality/tone/structural integrity of "all Gibson basses" just because they didn't like the microscopic sample they tried. That's just like saying all cheese is awful, just because the first cheese you ever tasted was a Danish Blue and you didn't like it. So ALL cheese is bad? Riiiiiight then.
Cupboard basses are all sh*t
