1. Don't tell anyone, but I just got a Jazz notation book from the library It is only to help me with reading....... honest! (my misses is no longer talking to me)
2. Welcome aboard. Ah the Isle of Wight, many a family holiday I have had there. Is it still raining? It is every time I visit Great equipment you have there!
3. Bump Will trade for a 300w amp (head no combo's cheers) plus cash to you if nessersary. PM me with any offers / deals etc. Cheers.
4. I just love playing the blues. Just doing a walking bass line that ties the lot together and lets the song breathe. Accenting roots and leaving the fancy stuff to the guitarist / singer. It's great for jams if you don't know any of the songs!
5. I didn't know who Jaco was until I bought a tribute fretless I know who Paul MacCartney is because I bought a violin bass........
6. It is nice and all, but it had too many strings
7. Ah, ok. If you are doing it because you want a good looking bass then I would go for the Nitro if you can afford it. Yes, it will look different as Nitro has it's own 'look'. Personally, I would just let it age and in 10 years it will probably be worth a fortune It is a personal thing. I don't like artifical worn basses. Ones that get there naturally are superb. I would not refinish any of my basses as they are what they are. I understand why you want to and therefore, go for it! Nitro all the way
8. Sell it as 'roadworn' and buy a new one! It's probably worth more battered than done up tbh. Can you post a picture?
9. You've done it again Mike. Superb
10.
No need to experiment, the maximum clean output of ten pedals would be the same as one. Power amps are not optional. They are a necessity.
This ^ You need to amplify to get the air to move!
11. I think that if you go pro, then you will loose weight playing the blues! (If you go pro jazz, then ensure you have enough weight to loose first!)
12. Just getting the notes on the staff is only a part of it. The rest of the notation, whilst playing, is where I really fall down
13.
Another study suggests that the associated weight gain with playing blues is because most musicians don't turn to the blues until the onset of middle age
Well, you need that life time to really get the blues Marriage, kids, mortgage etc!
14.
The reason most of us can pick up a newspaper and read it even though we've never seen that text before is because we've been reading our language since early school age. We'd be just as good at music if we read music each day year in year out.
Totally agree. It is the same with anything, practice makes perfect
15.
I started off playing a lot of blues as a kid, but gave it up as I didn't want to end up fat.
So that is why I am fat
16. I too have been trying to read recently. It is not something I am proficient at but it does help
17. I have a lot of trouble with heavy basses. All of my Jazz based basses are too heavy for me to gig for hours. The new light weight Hohner headless is really light but still sounds good. I don't think a bass has to be heavy to sound good
18. I am guilty of missing a performance for an amateur dramatic society They phoned up and asked where I was. Mid Wales I replied, why? You were meant to be on stage and have missed the first half! Drat and double drat Only time though and felt really bad about it for a long time!
19.
Tell me more about this so called "D" chord you have been talking about!!!
Chords....... now what are they again. Some people play by ear (not me, I just hit the cables whilst holding them against the metal lines on the wooden bit)
20.
Poor old pa... neglected, exposed to hypothermia, then kidnapped! Somebody ring social services!
Just spilt my tea
21. Gearbox on car broken. Brother has the car. Oh it was tonight. I don't think I can commit .......
22.
You keep the dancers on the floor. It takes half a song to get them up and 2 seconds of silence for them to sit down again!!
This ^ Once they start dancing don't give an excuse to sit down
23. My drummer said last night 'Brian can play any song' I really like him! What he means is I can play it because I can read chord charts etc. Can't play a thing by ear
24. At rehearsal last night we decided that all songs would end on a bass root note Its my band
25.
I did a fade out on a folk cover a few weeks ago - I just walked slowly backwards and played gentler and gentler until I was behind the back stage curtain.
Now that is cool
