Wilson Pickett - In the Midnight Hour Just love it
I'm ambivalent about the ethics of this... While it's interesting to see what's being done to an important bassist's instruments, plus I don't know exactly what sort of deal JB and JE have done, if those were my basses being paraded around for all to see on the internet and being used as publicity for someone else's business without my prior explicit consent, I'd be look at a very hefty discount on the work being done at the very least.
I had to look up ambivalent but I get your sentiment. I would not trust someone if they did that to me without asking first. Having said that, I really enjoyed the pictures and would love to have a noodle on said bass!

I usually go to PMT Oxford if I want to try something (phonig first to see if they have one and can try it). Failing that, I will phone around Denmark street, then grab a bass and head off to the train station. It is difficult and I think that in a few years, the manufacturers will just have stores like Sony where you have a look and listen then go away and buy online.

£33 to see what is really only a covers band
Or even better get writing some songs and form an original band.
I have written several but they are all sadly rubbish or they sound like cheap Pink Floyd rip offs! -
I'm a big Floyd fan but I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in going to see a tribute band play their stuff - I don't care how good they are, they're not Pink Floyd. I'd much rather stay in & listen to the albums. Same goes for Steely Dan too.
Or learn to play the tunes and form a tribute band -

I was around when it was happening lol but didn't go and see them -
I still have a C64, great computer.
My Dragon 32 was sadly not up to the Commodore standard and died in a hail of hammer blows back in 1985
So I'll stick with their great recordings and remember them that way and if I want to see a live band I'll go and see someone new and exciting doing new and exciting original music.
Still trying to talk my misses into coming up to see you on the 10th (not getting a favourable response yet ) I do like to see new bands and support a couple of the local original bands in Bucks. -
You remind me of when Private Walker was selling knicker elastic at something like 2/6 a yard and someone says it's only 6d in the shop and he says "You can't get it in the shop can you?". Same here: you want to see Floyd played live but unless you go to a tribute gig you're stuck with listening to the records. Loads of people go to see JS Bach's music played live but they don't complain that he's not there on stage ...
That is a fair point I never thought of the Philharmonic as a tribute band -
I heard an interview with Jack on Radio 2 (Simon Mayo show) and he says he likes playing fretless as he can play what he likes and as out of tune as he likes! He is why I took up fretless and I follow his playing tips
I don't think I've spent that much to see any band originals or covers.
I paid £65 to see Eric Clapton last year! -

A covers band that just plays covers from one source = tribute band Whatever, they don't play any original material........... -
£100 for the full night out is quite a bit of cash - I didn't go to a proper paying gig at all in 2011, first time in 25 years.
Exactly why I am hesitating. I might just put the money to a new amp and learn to play their songs to a higher degree. -

I am waivering on the edge at the moment...... (Livenation.co.uk open and hand loitering over the buy button) For two tickets, fuel, parking and a bite to eat it will probably be around £100 for me and the misses. Starts to rack up for a covers band! -
Just love the Jazz bass (big fan of Jazz basses!). I have just switched to a headless hohner as the weight of my Jazz is 10lbs and my back is playing up Great collection.
-
I never got to see Pink Floyd when they were touring. I've been a big fan and strive to play both bass and guitar parts on their stuff. The Australian Pink Floyd are touring this year and the tickets are £33 plus the usual. How many of you would pay that sort of money to see a covers band? I paid £25 to see Bill Wyman earlier this year - is that the same? I am tempted but it goes against the grain......
Oh - OK. I actually prefer it to most improvisations I hear on youtube. ha ha.
Me too! I have a bass like that but it doesn't sound like that when I play it
-
Really enjoyed that (headphones on to get the full bass flavour!).

I like going into things that make me have to think and work hard to achieve stuff I still wouldn't have asked the drummer Just go and enjoy the experience. You play bass and they want a bass player...... simples -
