1. Yep, a Jazz it is! The other Jazz thread was getting a bit much for me
2. I was going to an audition today as the bassist in a function band. It was cancelled at the last minute - the third time in a row. So...... I went to see a covers band who I go and see whenever they are close by. Chatting to the band at the end it appears that they need a dep for certain gigs....... They have asked me to come along to a rehearsal and audition for the part I'm on cloud 9 tbh. I have my own band that is coming along nicely and wanted a second outlet. Looks like things are on the up! Just thought I would post a cheery, happy thread about getting on with people in a band
3. Just sitting here, looking at my Jaco bass hanging on the wall, I've got to say it looks rather nice To me, a Jazz Bass is as Leo made them back in the day and all else (including my Jaco) is a copy. Both of my 'Jazz' basses sound great but are only Jazz in name. I wouldn't part with either at the moment as they are superb
4. I have a small rehearsal space my band use. you are welcome to come and jam with us. pm me
5. Absolutely, I did mine 'on the cheap' and had to stick to the budget (it was all I had). Yours will be a lot better both in sound insulation and temperature control. Mine is really cold at this time of year and all my instruments stay indoors. My amps stay out there but thats all. I do a lot of DIY but if I did the build again, I would get a builder to do the foundations as it nearly killed me digging it out by hand! I am also thinking of putting in a second skin to help with winter usage. Are you having any heating installed? The whole thing looks really good and here's to the many rehearsals/recordings and hours of practice to come!
6.
I just want to ask him 'have you ever thought that MAYBE the reason you can't find any musicians to play with you is that no-one WANTS to play with you?'
I know a few people like that Sadly they don't / can't / won't believe it is their fault......
7. Bump for a couple of cheap basses
8.
Just curious, how much is this costing?
I too would be interested in a ball park figure for costs. I built mine in 2007. My build (not including planning permission) was £4,000 total. The brickie only charged £80 a day / ten days = £800. The electrics cost £750. The rest of the work I did myself. I think your build looks really good. (I use down lighters plus a few wall lights too)
9. I think I'll pass Far to expensive for me!
10. with you 100% I would have walked too Unfortunately I would have probably vented my feelings too by letting him know what I thought.
11. Planning permission only. No need for regs as not a habitable building and not bigger than 30 square metres.
12. There is around 70 feet from studio to nearest house. I live in a town that is fairly built up but not to London standards
13. Nathan east is great! I have him on the clapton video in 1986 at the jazz festival
14.
Right, Fretless bass...compressor,some light octave, moderate chorus and some twiddley metal things on the fingers. Am I right or way off the mark?
Definately Fretless lots of compression and yes Octave pedal. I always use chorus on my fretless. I don't know about the metal things you speak of!
15. All Gone Now...... Hi All, I am selling a couple of my basses to help fund more kit I am based in Aylesbury Bucks £150 each. Good output and plenty of mwah Any other information just ask. If you want sound clips I'll post some on sound cloud. Come over for a cuppa and a noodle if you like. I will try and get a few better pics up over the weekend. Cheers Brian
16. All you chaps go on about sound proofing I built my studio (30 square metres) at the bottom of my garden. No sound proofing and just a single skin brick shell. We play with the full band and by the time you get to the house, you can't really hear much. My misses says that you can't hear it in the house at all. Just lucky I guess? This is it
17.
Good effort man. I like the sparseness of some bits, then sliding in at points. Definitely get stuck in and do some more. If I had to suggest one thing to have a think about is try to feel the groove - the ebb and flow - of the piece a bit more. Sure, artistic license and pushing and pulling and being free is great but there's a pulse in there that you can work with and around, so why not use it! Just a thought!
Totally agree I am suffering from latency issues (no excuse I know) and will have another stab at it (putting it through my PXR4). As long I didn't ruin it, I'm happy
18. and use plenty of passing notes, just to fill in, you understand
19. First go straight into my laptop http://soundcloud.com/blademan_98/added-fretless Let me know what you think
20.
I'm pretty sure it IS in G. It's in Em, and the progression is from a piece in the key of G.
lol that's cool I will loop it and see what I can come up with, cheers!
21.
Enjoy! If you want more clips of a particular nature then let me know.
If you could record that first bit in 'G' I would love to add some fretless bass underneath it!
22. +1 on rewiring the 4x12
23.
does that get you three women? obviously depending on the dealership the women get worse. Personally i think I'm going to buy my "select" fender from Italy
yes, yes it does
24. + loads on PMT Oxford. I have bought guitars and basses from them. Numerous cables and effects. They matched their own website when the store price was higher (around £30). On my Viola bass as it was the one on the wall, they knocked £50 off list price and threw in a padded gig bag. Nice and friendly service. I have only bought one item from their web site (last year) and there was no problem with the service. I do find it a lot more of a pleasant experience buying musical stuff from a shop than online
25. Mmmmm wall candy
