1. That's cool no worries. If it's still around on the 27th I feel a road trip up north coming on
2. Well now, I'll have three........
3. how about a trade for an Epiphone Viola Bass? http://www.dv247.com/guitars/epiphone-viola-bass-guitar-vintage-sunburst--37221 Like that one in the link I have a need for a 5er but no money until pay day
4.
An induction loop is designed to be permanently active, not least because the hotel (in this case) could be in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) should it be switched off. Not sure what you can do about it though, sorry!
I don't think that DDA applies here as you are playing music at greater than 90db You can just unplug the system as they are 'active' but if the venue's staff don't know anything about it, you are stumped!
5.
Yes! Just the face, though! Thinking about it, you could just mime the 'bass face' to your favourite track without playing the bass at all..!
That's how I gig........
6. I would jump at being in a Pink Floyd tribute band Guy plays bass and makes a living out of it (and earns far more than I do at my regular job). All hail Mr Pratt (I would have changed my name tbh) and all who make money from playing bass Edit: I can't stand Roger Waters as a bloke but I think his bass riffage is pretty cool
7. My misses spilt a cup of tea over my active bass I pulled the battery and dryed the obvious etc. A day later thought about the scratch plate and lifted it. Yep, still moisture there Finally stripped it and left it apart for a few days before rebuilding and it plays like a dream (when some one else is playing it of course ) Good luck with yours
8. Satch shreds on banjo.... now that would be cool
9. Bald as a coot (both me and Satch!) Say hi to him for me
10. Really enjoyed that. Good tone and great timing Thanks for posting.
11. Good clear site. Easy navigation. Love the tracks loaded and the videos too. Good stuff
12. I really enjoyed that version, very laid back. It's not the first time I have seen a young lass reading the lyrics from a phone! We went to a gig before Christmas and the singer had an iPhone clasped in her hand throughout the set OK for recording but not for a gig! [/rant] Anyway, great track
13. I don't know but I want it That fretboard is superb! If you get fed up with it, let me know
14.
This is Wednesday, the 'Telemaster' bass I built last year, the thread is probably dead and buried somewhere by now!
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/128458-telemaster-bass/page__hl__telemaster Found it
15. I liked it. If that had been a live performance, the crowd would have cheered like mad! Great stuff.
16.
There's a free e-book you can download from www.jazzadvice.com which is all about visualization. Talks about being able to visualize single chords at first, then the min/maj or whatever comes after it moving up to progressions like ii V I etc. I can't really vouch for it as its pretty hefty and I haven't really gotten stuck into it but it looks the business! And it's free so probably worth a bash anyway!
Thanks for that link. Although I don't play Jazz on my Jazz bass I do like the approach for learning
17.
When theres a massive bum note stare at the keyboard player and shake your head slowly from side to side. On the other hand don't worry as nobodys listening - its only bass
That's how I get away with playing!
18.
They willed you into existence? Wow!
This made me spill my drink
19. To answer the question, no you don't need it to enjoy music. I have expanded as a player (IMHO) since learning about the theory. If you don't enjoy the journey there is no point just enjoy playing what sounds good.
20. Stored in room that is used daily and in a good case should be fine for years. I wouldn't bother with the silica in those conditions. If the room gets very cold and then heated up rapidly then moisture may be formed. Should be ok as you have described.
21. I just think................. it's pedal tone on the E time
22.
That's what i was trying to say, i just couldn't find the correct musical terms Another Blank Momment, seems as if they come too often :L
In times like those a pedal tone on the E usually works.......
23. oh and plenty of passing notes
24.
I mean when you guys improvise do you stick to a certain scale
OK, to answer that question, I would play within the key. If it is not obvious or has changing keys then use the scale for each chord in an interesting pattern or root 3rd 4th 5th 7th (leaving 2nd / 6th out) If you can't get to grips with the minor / majors on the fly then forget the third too. It will fit no matter what if you keep in time
25.
I play music because it helps to keep me mad.
Welcome to the forum
