1. Drat, you sound better on a block of wood than I do on my £100 fretless Great stuff I now have for a bit of 3x2 pine....
2.
No they won't. They won't have a clue what they're hearing.
+1 I play the run on Hey Joe but my guitarist sometimes gets carried away and plays it too. Oh well, getting paid and muting the strings - win / win
3.
Had our worst ever gig the other night, it was our first ever gig with this setup. An over weight guitarist and an alcoholic drummer who went AWOL just before we played, found him on the fun fair sitting on an elephant on the merry go round with a glass of wine in his hand. This happened in the second set............. Visit My Website and it all went down hill after that really. Needless to say that my good woman(singer) and myself will be looking for younger and more suitable musicians for the future.
Ah drummers I have played at a gig (I was on guitar) where the drummer did a similar dive but it was because the seat broke!
4. Wow, thanks for posting that. It has inspired me to get better intonation on my fretless

NBD!

Looks fantastic! Jealous
6. Welcome aboard. Lots of advice on basses on here!
7. That looks spectacular A great looking bass with a good story behind it.
8. A short scale bass worked for me while I was getting used to it. I'm fine with a full scale bass now but if I have been doing a lot of guitar work, I tend to run scales on the Viola before picking up the Jazz Stretching etc is the most sensible way forward. Just keep going but don't push to hard to quickly as you can do damage
9. There are some songs that have to be pretty much spot on. Most cover bands don't play it like that and the crowd doesn't really care I would love to play Money live. I play along to the record but have never quite got the courage to play it live! Oh and we don't have a sax player either

I've just bought an 'ashtray' for my Squier / Fender-alike Jazz. I don't know why, it just looks good
11. Er, what why?
12.
Being that the strings are looser, it's fairly obvious that the amplitude of the vibrating string will be greater, so I don't see anyway of avoiding buzz & rattle when tuning down. If you want to play at those pitches you would need to use heavier strings which need greater tension even at those tunings and won't rattle. If you are tuned to BEAD you'll need a 125 or 130 for the B and the others commensurate with that. When I had this kind of need, I had 2 basses with me, one in BEAD & the other in EADG. That covered everything. G.
This ^ Get a dedicated bass and string it accordingly
13. Flats on everything
14. Welcome aboard. This is a great place to learn
15. I asked if I could buy a new dial for my Peacemaker 20 (guitar amp) but got no reply. It's the same dial used on all their amps so I thought I would be able to get one from them. Sadly not
16.
Would have one after trying one. However, im far too sold on valve amps now to consider going back to solid state/hybrid amps
I like valve amps (I still have a Peacemaker 20 for my guitar). The Orange does seem to nail that certain sound though!
17.
Also the volume does go anti clockwise.
Do they? That's where I have been going wrong
18. Has anybody tried this for an ebony effect? Axminster Ebony Spray I came across it when I was looking for something to treat my 5er board with.
19.
I'm puzzled..how does wearing your pants around your neck help protect your bass, when you're in the cabin and the bass is in the hold?
This made me crack up. I had re-read the whole thread to get the context
20. I try to make up lines to known songs (ok, I play different lines 'cause I can't remember them). I find this helps when writing my own stuff. When I write a blues track, I just do a walking bass line anyway!
21. Keep it You will just miss it when it's gone!
22.
Just came across this in my daily grind, may or may not be something you want... LINK TO BASS
Is that a real one? Edit: sorry that hijacks the thread I have GAS at the moment but no money
23.
I'll buy another one someday hopefully once I get some decent bass gear. Wouldn't mind a cajon in the meantime though...
I like cajon's and have contemplated getting one They usually have one at the jam night, great fun! I do understand the reasons for selling. I have shed a few of my guitars to raise bass funds
24. I had not even heard of the genre I love this site as I learn more each day!
25. That is looking very cool. The body shape is good. Just a slimming down without losing the overall shape should be enough. Superb
