1. to answer the OP, because he liked it
2. My Rogue fretless cost £100 and I have gigged it many times. It goes well in the acoustic duo I play in. Cheap does not always mean rubbish
3. I love your posts. I have listened to a wider varierty of music by following your links than I have in my entire life There really is more to music than twelve bar blues
4.
Because bass players tend to be more learned about how their gear works and are less mired in antique technology. If guitar'd players used the same standards for buying cars as they do their kit most would be driving Morris Minors.
Ah, I wondered why I had a passion for early Mini's
5.
the resident venue wierdo (there's always one!) piped up with: "Bet you don't even know what it stands for!" Douche. It's Twin Ion Engine, everyone knows that! That's a basic level question!... muppet!
I have watched all the films, countless times. I saw A New Hope when it came out in the cinema (we called it 'the flicks' back in the 70's). In all that time, sadly I never new that it stood for Twin Ion Engine. Makes sense really
6.
You are entitled to, and I respect your opinion. However, I dont understand it. With music, and playing it, nothing is ever written in stone. Before Jaco ripped out the frets on his jazz bass, I'm sure the general consensus of the day was, "on no account should you play fretless". If people want to experiment, and in the process they like what they hear, then what's the problem ????? As I said, you are entitled to your opinion, but dont force it on others.
But when it's my bass, and it has no pick guard, then I don't want the finish all scratched up by a pick. I don't use picks personally because I can't hold them any more. My guitars all have pick guards and if people borrow them, they can use a pick If bass players want to use a pick on their own fretless basses, I don't have a problem I probably should have made that a bit clearer in my OP.
7. I lent my fretless to a friend. He proceeded to take out a pick and play I told him 'NO' and took it off him. It may just be my personal opinion, but on no account should you play (my) fretless with a pick! /rant Edit: added the personal pronoun
8. Well, I bought a 5er for one song! It now resides in my studio, totally unloved Go for it as it is the only way to know! We are all different
9. I went with the 'you're scaring me' option. It's just a bit of wood from a tree (and acording to some, there is not a lot left )
10. Do you know the weight difference? It may take a perfectly balanced Bass and ruin it's playability. Just throwing that out there for consideration
11. I did a quick test today. Using my fretless, I recorded a couple of bars listening through my headphones. I then recorded just through the DI. I played them both back through the tuner..... Guess what? They were both the same! Edit: Just for clarity, they were as bad as each other
12. My daughters 12 and thankfully she is not that good at the bass...... She would only show me up
13. I too would like an Orange in the Ampeg style Light and loud for me everytime!
14. I don't have thousands so don't spend it on basses. My total spend is £400 on three basses (+ £80 on a 5 string I don't want or use). Same for amps. If I had a lot of money, I would probably spend more
15. Not happy and have sold my rig I need to get a light weight rig. I have the money from the sale of my rig and my AC15. I was going to go for an Ampeg PF-500 but am undecided now.
16.
LOL, going to be fun for me "Hi, I'm looking to buy a bass" "Feel free to try a few out" "erm, i've never played one before."
Just don't tell them and start hitting all the strings in a wild manner They will either call you a genious or throw you out as a slap monkey
17.
When I try out something in a music shop, which is not often, I usually just play the lines im currently required to play, they may not be impressive but its all I can do Having said that , last time I starting playing shake a tail feather, before I knew it the drum, guitar and keyboard departments joined it and everyone outside started dancing
18. The last time I went to my local music shop the chap asked if I could play. Being modest I muttered something about not being very good He told me to come back when I was good! Since then, I have a few licks I play but mainly run scales
19. I can't sing but I do use headphones. I've had no problems with pitch (playing on my fretless). I use Bass Buds for in ear monitoring and Sony closed back (with bass response) for recording.
20. For me, learning is trying to 'get' something. Practice is what I do with the knowledge after gaining it. Fun is when I have it in memory and want to show off!
21. Didn't watch all of it but it was watchable
22. Thanks for posting that I really like it (including the headstock) and that does not help my cause! If I ever get a chance to play one, I do feel that I will want to buy it
Have you heard one yet? 'ckin' amazing they are, I tell ya, try this:
G & L L2500

Short review How does it sound 'across the strings'? What pickups are fitted? Is that the 5 string version, if it is, how does the low B sound? Cheers Blademan
24. Really good for the money! Enjoy your new purchase and post some sound clips
