Oh I intend to (Unfortunately I may end up with more respect for drummers )
-
I have just been given a full drum kit The drummer in our band leaves his kit - minus snare and cymbals at my studio. I have always wanted a set myself so now I can have a good old bash! Does mean he will have to store his kit somewhere else!

Welcome! Lots of returning wanderers and instrument jumpers on here lol (ex guitarist here)

Wunjo are really nice I went in there last week and the sales chap said: Just pick up a bass and play, no need to ask. Jaw, floor, no need to say it twice!

Wow, I really enjoyed that! Not one for these modern bands........ Makes me want to buy an album if they do one edit: they do and I have! -
How has your day been as a bassist?

I just played back a recording to my youngest daughter..... Hey dad, who is that, it sounds really good. Why that's me playing. It sounded almost professional...... until I realised it was you -
Aches and pains of being a bass player
Blademan_98 replied to BassYerbouti's topic in General Discussion
I bought the headless 'paddle' because of weight issues. I used to struggle to get through 2 x one hour sets. It's a breeze with the lighter bass. My hand problems are a different thing altogether. Although I have been 'advised' by my doctor to give up playing, they can have my bass when they prise it from my cold dead fingers lol. (I'm 47 but feel like I have the body of a 90 year old some days!) -

I managed a half hour practice this morning before going to my day job I've got the recording bug now so I'm going to go into my studio and lay down some low notes..... -
some might say you don't need it, but even if you do find yourself not needing it, it won't do you any harm. proper notation tells you so much more than where to put your fingers. it tells you when, and explains the relationships between what you're playing now, what you played before, and what you're going to play after. you see music as patterns of rhythmic and melodic devices, and because it's easy to spot scale fragments and arpeggios when they're written down (and those are the basic manoeuvres you've practised - haven't you) you can just pull the relevant tricks out of the bag. Plus you can also access music that was written for other instruments. It's a universal language. Pianists don't read tab! In fact it always amazes me that guitarists and electric bass players seem to be the ones who refuse to do what students of all other instruments do (in the west, anyway) which is learn to read as they learn to play.
I like the way you have put this. Superb and really says it for me.

I have off days but I also have on days when I play better than I am usually! As others have said, challenge yourself and you will get over it.

I am already fairly wierd (check out this months competition lol) Thanks for that!
Dark and mellow, I like it! Your vocal actually fits the track well… it's like beat poetry, kinda psychedelic and dreamlike. The production sounds good thru my headphones too. Nice use of panning and everything seems well balanced. I really like the fact it has no percussion at all, relying on the bass to give it momentum. Not something I've ever tried myself, but in this case it works great. Anyway, well done for being the trailblazer this month! You've got us off to a good start
Thanks for that I did put a drum track on it but it sounded 'wrong' so I dumped it from the final mix. I'm looking forward to the rest of the entries (I am expecting many!). Cheers
I have written a song! Provoked by Mr Guitar at last week's rehearsal I have sat down and created something. Although I 'll probably realise tomorrow it is actually some already existing song that I have half remembered.!
Post it on soundcloud and let us have a listen -
Wonder who will be the first to post Setting the bar so everyone else can jump a little higher! I have recorded something today but still not sure about posting it

active bass - does amp need hi and lo inputs?
Blademan_98 replied to Fishybob's topic in General Discussion
I have both active and passive basses. My Orange 50w practice amp only has one input and they all work through that. It shouldn't make any difference. -
Are you sure it was a Car Battery and not a Leisure Battery? Need to get a Leisure Battery ourselves, for camping.
Probably, I wouldn't know a leisure battery if it came up and bit me
Tomorrow I'm gonna put some ads out and put together a new band that I'll manage myself! All I want is a bunch of people that'll wear the right clothes, learn the right songs and have decent gear.
That's what we all want but sadly personalities get in the way!

I have found reasoning rarely works on the drunk. Direct action can land you in trouble too! Leave it to the security / bar staff.

As above good luck I made the transition 3 years ago and I have not looked back!
