Great T shirt. I don't have any classic ones as the misses regularly throws em all out

I notice it's pickup only from northampron. Not being able to spell where you live is not that inspiring Not bad a bass for £40 though
There have been 5 string double basses for over 100 years.
I didn't know that That does put it in context for me! I still think 4 is standard and 5 extended but what do I know (nowt by the looks of things)

Ashdown amps nicked in Reading CCTV footage of thief
More likely a bass player, we're used to being ignored. Not a guitar'd player, though, or he'd have smiled for the camera.
Probably thought that no one was looking at him! -
To take it one step further, is a 4 string with a 24 fret neck an ERB?
What do double basses have? As the whole thing started with them, I would reference it to that. I think that having a full two octaves is just a good move rather than an extended range.......

Ashdown amps nicked in Reading CCTV footage of thief

Lets hope they catch him quick. He must be a drummer though as he wore no gloves or mask (sorry, in poor taste but I couldn't help myself) -
What kind of bass, is not capable of that though? i mean surely the cheapest of basses can hold a note for more than 3 beats, or at least a few seconds. i have a £40 bass, and i didn't notice short notes or anything like that.
There is a thread around here somewhere that has someone quoting the RV4 has no sustain. That's a £245 bass. It's not the cost it's the setup (IIRC) that affects the sustain.

Anything more than 4 is 'extended range' as the bass is a 4 stringed instrument. If you play a 5er or more it gives you an extended range (hence the name!). That's Mustang Sally for me then
If you are playing a slow ballad and you need to play a semibreve (or two tied together),you don't want the note to die after 3 beats. I'd much rather have an instrument that has good sustain, because I can always mute the strings and make the notes shorter.
I like that explanation, I too like the note to hold as long as it can. The decay as it fades adds to the overall performance if played well.
Was that the album with the blue cover with the picture of Cozy jumping over his drum kit on a motorbike? Haven't heard that for donkeys years. Is that the same "Theme One" that Van Der Graaf Generator did?
Over the top I reckon so! A great album (I still do have a deck!)

A very nice collection. I like the look of the Ibanez. It does look a little heavy though, as you say. The VM's are both sweet too. I'm not partial to the Fleabass myself but hear thay are good basses. You should have many happy hours playing them

Welcome to the forum I too have an Orange Crush 50. I gig it and use the DI to a PA if the gig requires more umph! Nice basses (you just need to post some pictures!)
Behringer Ultra DI?
I have one of these and yes it works just fine! Cheap and reliable.
Thanks for the help guys, router it is then. And ill be very carefull, i rather like my fingers Oh and im sorry if i post loads of questions here, but im doing my first build and i have a severe lack of knowlage about it
I have never built a guitar but I used to do a lot of woodwork (for fun). I recently sold my router and table (not as nice as the one posted above) or you could have had it Those NuTool ones look like really good value.

That looks superb Wayne! When will it be coming up in the for sale thread? Seriously, if it does, I will be making contact (hopefully quicker than last time!).
I'd use a router. Two things to remember though: 1) Don't try cutting the depth all in one go - you're far better off taking it a little bit at a time and staying in control of how much wood you're shifting. 2) Speaking as a man who has a finger with a decorative scroll edge, the safety guards are there for a reason...
+1 for both comments Take it easy and let the router do the work (forcing it will only burn the wood and more chance of an accident). Safety guards are very useful if you like to keep the full complement of fingers!

Please recommend me a lightweight versatile bass guitar
Blademan_98 replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
Do you think that one of these would cover the genre of music i play? It looks really old school & all i can think of when i see one is The Beatles - Great band but that's really not the sound we play. Thanks for your input
Probably not tbh But, it is light and it does have the tonal range. The Beatles kind of ruined it as a great lightweight bass that is fun to play. It's short scale too which all helps with the weight. I've played some Pink Floyd on it and got comments at the end along the lines of: What the heck do you think you're doing playing the Floyd on that piece of rubbish So what, I say!
