I was there on Friday as they were building the set. I'm glad you enjoyed the lights The amount of effort that goes into the stage is immense!
You can see where I have to rake on here hopefully?
Yes, it is a simple rake on the open strings. Use Scotts technique as described in the video. It works but needs a little practice

I know my Jazz basses are 34" but it didn't affect my choice (I just wanted a jazz bass!). I have no idea about the headless (my main gigging bass). The short scale violin bass was easy to play like a guitar lol bit I bought it for it's looks not scale length. So, no to the OP I guess

This is a good video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNAYIfITgpw Scott Devine is a superb teacher (IMHO).

It is such a shame this sort of thing happens. I also sold a fretless on eBay last week. A lady came and picked it up on Friday night and left good feedback today. It is why I do not post. I actually recieved a guitar with a broken neck four years ago. I felt sorry for the seller and claimed on the insurance. When there is a scam, thats when it all turns sour. Also had a buyer pay by PayPal and then after picking up the bass, reversed the payment. It was hastle getting the bass back. So, cash on collection only for me these days. Good luck in getting it resolved.

Need Your Love So Bad - First decent(ish) band recording

That is a refreshing change from how we play it. Personally I would drop the guitar in the opening few bars. Piano and vocals are sweet together. Well done -
How has your day been as a bassist?
Blademan_98 replied to charliethornton's topic in General Discussion
Prepared my fretless for the new owner who should be here in a while. I have played it for an hour to say goodbye Down to three now! -
Voted. My track has had 49 views. You don't know how happy that makes me! I'm sorry for those expecting something good but the fact it has been listened to is supurb It is the most listened to track on my soundcloud page! All the entries are great (including yours Bilbo) and I think this is a fantastic idea.

The reason for returning it was because he thought it was just a guitar for beginners.......
well it's only got four strings init gov

At what stage do you call yourself a bass player?
Blademan_98 replied to Blademan_98's topic in General Discussion
Well i play bass in a gigging band, so i cant see what else i need to do to qualify. Im definitely not a great bass player but im out gigging with my bass and holding down the low end, i'd say thats more qualified than the bedroom bass heroes who know everything there is to know yet never get the chance to show it off.
Yes, I too am in a gigging band. It was after the moment of 'I reckon I could do this in a band' that I joined one That is what I was asking. When did it happen? When I stopped looking at my hands, I had the confidence to gig (and say I was a bass player). I certainly did not just pick up a bass and think I was a player straight away! Perhaps you and many others did, and that's great. Sadly I did not have that skill or confidence. -
I don't see myself as a player, the instruments are irrelevant. I try to play THROUGH the instrument, not ON it, that's when I know I'm truly expressing myself, but it's a rare thing. I look at the neck when I play most of the time, but that doesn't matter. I suppose there are quality criteria, musicianship, craft, expression, finesse .. but these are highly subjective. If you can play what's in your head, then that is a test, but if what's in your head is not satisfying you, then there's another test. It's a purely personal question and it's not really easy to answer. Someone may think I'm 'a player' or 'not a player', I know I would have to do an ENORMOUS amount of work to get to Jake Newman level, but I don't want to be at that level, I can do what is required of me to a good standard of technical execution and finesse and expression. What I require of myself is usually emotive rather than technical, I sometimes achieve that, most of the time laziness and conflicting priorities get in the way.
I think that makes you a musician rather than a player. I struggle with the technical aspects and strive to be more competant. You have seen me 'play' and know I just hack at it but it makes me happy and I feel confident enough to say I am a bass player. Same with the guitar. But the keyboard is a different matter and I rarely admit to anyone that I know where the notes are! -
I am a bass, guitar and saxophone player. I do one well, one poorly and one extremely badly. You are a bass player as soon as you start playing a bass. You are just a beginner. Ownership is not enough. The clue is in the verb 'play' and the noun 'bass'. If, in your life, you verb the noun. then you are, by default, a noun verber. If the verb is play and the noun bass, you area bass player. You may wish to add a caveat that gives greater detail (good, bad, professional, amateur etc) but you are in the gang!
It was that part I was trying to get to without actually asking it Most people, when pushed, are reserved about stating their skill level. Therefore, when do you start saying you are a bass player or whatever instrument you feel you have made your own. (It is - I feel at any rate - quite a personal thing that at some point you take possession and state 'I am a bass player!') -
I'm a musician.... Bass is one of the instruments I use to perform/compose with
That's another interesting point. I wouldn't say I was a musician because I don't know enough theory to substanciate that. I think it has a lot to do with your personal outlook on the world. -

That was superb - thanks for posting it. He is brilliant no doubt about it -
Seeing posts by multi instument players, it got me to thinking....... When do you consider yourself a player? Personally, it is when I can play with my eyes shut. I can do that on a guitar (electric or acoustic) and an electric bass. I play a bit of keys and sometimes even write songs on one - BUT I would never consider myself a keyboard player as I have to watch my hands all the time. I also like to have a thrash on the drums but again I am no drummer I still have a lot to learn and technically I may not be great, but I think thats just part of the journey. How about you?
-
You do realise they are harder to play...........

I was fortunate enough to be given a 'proper' marketing stand. It packs down into a plastic flight case around 500mm (18") square and 2000mm (3') tall. You can put whatever material background you want up and it has 4 small spot lights too

Are all basschatters in covers bands?
Blademan_98 replied to redstriper's topic in General Discussion
I play covers and get paid to do so. If the stuff I wrote was any good and I could be paid for it, I would play them too -
