Our guitarist is a massive Free / Bad Co fan. He's the only guitard I know who plays it exactly right, he gets really wound up when it's played wrong. He now has a slight problem though because I refuse to play it, as I'm sick to the back teeth of it, even to the point I turn the radio off if it comes on.
Beer
Beer or two I'd say. Just spending the evening listening to his stuff on Spotify. Superb. Don't give a monkeys about the hair or his manner, true talent is this. I just hope to God he never gets Michael Mannring playing bass for him, just imagine the comments on that thread. Looking forward to the Cinnamon Club gig no end.
Awesome. He's playing The Cinnamon Club near me in May. I shall be there.
I'm going as well if I can. I'm due to be out of the country sometime in May, but I'm going to try to swing the dates.

Absolutely brilliant. I love this kind of stuff and it would be great to get a chance to play it. But there's no chance to get anyone anywhere near good enough. Including me Off to Amazon to buy some of his stuff.

I found a few sets of "Elites" that I forgot I had and put them on my Jazz. Or should I say tried to. As soon as I hit any kind of tension they just snapped. They must be about 8 years old. Do stings go brittle over time if not used. Must say it's a new one on me.

Really great way to spend a day. Even more special as I hadn't planned on going until the day before. Good to see some familiar faces and of course his Doodleness. Thanks guys for a great day.

2007 Fender MIM Jazz in Olympic White for sale. Has ding on bottom which can't be seen when you wear the bass. Other than that it's in exceptional condition. I already have another Jazz and bought this with the ding to use it as a project bass but never got around to it. I was going to make a Red Geddy out of it. But it's too nice to mess about with. I'm the second owner. Open to trades / swaps on 5 or 6 string basses or fretless 4 / 5 string. NOW SOLD
Over Christmas I tried brushing up on some technique and realised that I'd never really go to grips with playing ghost notes. After 2 practice sessions I still cant play them , it just feels so unnatural to not fully fret the note. Does anyone else struggle with these and are there any tips ?
I'd call in that Derek Ancora/ Anorak or whatever his name is. He's good with Ghosties. Sorry, someone had to do it.

Your 5 most influential/inspirational bassists

Jim Lea - Slade Glenn Hughes - Trapeze / Deep Purple / Solo Stuff Geddy Lee - The Master ! Stanley Clarke - For his amazing solo albums Mark King - Saw him on BBC sight and sound in concert when I was just starting out on Bass, and was blown away. These were the guys that showed me what could be achieved on bass when I was just starting out playing about 30 years ago. Problem is they are still at the top of their game, and I'm still crap ! -
It got this far into the thread without...
Now you've gone and done it To be honest I always like listening to this track. Love the tone.

The inevitable has happened(insurance issues)
Johngh replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
Golden rule is to put the bass away in it's case the second you finish playing. Everyone is eager to get packed up and away that accidents happen. Our drummer once dropped a drum case on one the keyboard players er, keyboards, and snapped one on the keys off. Very embarrasing silent moment where I thought the key player was actually going to kill him. All got sorted out though. -
Thinking you have "your tone" coming out of the PA at a gig is one thing, the actual tone you have when the muppet on the house mixing desk has finished mushing it about will be something different. If he thinks you should sound like Lemmy, then Lemmy it will be regardless if you think it should be pure Marcus. I was in a Beautiful South tribute band once. At one gig the house sound engineer had the drums sounding like an ACDC tribute. The look on the drummers face was pure magic, it was hilarious.

Their album Close to the Edge has one of the best Bass mixes I've ever heard, The bass sound is always right up front.

The Status Kingbasses are brilliant. I'd love another one, but this time a 5 string. Geddy Jazzes are excellent as well, wish I'd kept mine.

6 Double Platinum Albums 15 Top Ten Singles Top of the bill on a world tour that included Van Halen and Whitesnake on the bill. Oh, and Mark King once asked me to give him lessons. Other than that, I've done nothing. Now for the truth. Find it a achievement nowdays to find a band that sticks together for 5 minutes. Although I was once briefley in a band that had a No1 album and single in the Indie charts. Sadly, I wasn't in the band at this time.
Very nice indeed, and only slightly spoiled by the fact that they all probably sound like Jimmy Nail when they talk.
Or even worse HRH Cole. -
How many different Basschat Bass Bashes are there?
Johngh replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I'm glad this has come up. I looked into a national bash last year, and had the idea of inviting a few "names" along. One of the problems is obviously they will want a fee. And the problem will be covering the fee's if not enough members turn up. I think I'm right in saying that the Basschat coffers arn't exactly overflowing ( Ped will duff me up if I get this wrong) so who will pay the difference if we don't make enough dosh. I'm not trying to put the dameners on it by any means, I quite happy to get involved in organising this if we can get it up off the ground. If you charge say £10 a head entrance it may do it. I was looking at venues near where the M1 joins the M69. The A14 junction isn't that far away from there as well. -
Jerome also used to do a regular support spot on Gastank with Rick Wakeman. He played a Ricky then, or at least a very good Ricky copy.

South East Bass Bash Year 4, Surrey, 27th November 2010
Johngh replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Finally had chance to post. Stayed at Weybridge the night and travelled back up to snowy Derbyshire this evening. It was great to put faces to so many names and it's a great result with all the money going to charity. Highlight for me was Urb's clinic, great sounding Sei he has as well. Many thanks to all who contrbuted to getting this bash set up and all who provided clinics. Well worth the trip from Derbyshire. -

Just woke up to 6" of snow in sunny Derbyshire, got to get the wife down to Weybridge for a training course why I do the bash, and I only live a mile from the M1 so going to try it. If I don't make it it's because the Huskie's are knackered. -

Bit of a disaster, alternator has gone on the car, so I'll have to come in the other one and won't be able to fit any basses in it. ( 2 seater) -
I've bought and sold a fair amount of basses on here and never sold for profit. I might stick £20 or £30 on top of the price I originally bought a bass for but only to cover P&P or diesel money if I deliver in person, but that's as far as it goes. And I normally make it clear in my thread that the price includes P&P. A lot of people join BC to flog basses or gear, and out of that a fair amount of them sick around and become valued members. Personally I see the for sale sections as being there to be used by the members of the forum, not dealers. That's just my own personal opinion though. Let's face it, folk on here are not mugs, and can smell a dodgy bass a mile off. However, if you feel a bass is over priced it's better to take it up with the seller via PM

South East Bass Bash Year 4, Surrey, 27th November 2010
Johngh replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Turns out I have to go to Weybridge this weekend as the wife is on a medical course there so that will leave me free to attend the bash. Only downer is I won't be able to bring much gear, so it will just be the MIJ 75 re-issue Jazz.
