1. OK, peeps. I'll scout about a bit and see what I can come up with. Watch this space. Might take a few days though due to work.
2. Under forum rules, can you put up a price please. Thanks
3.
I`e seen something on ebay which I could end up bidding on but I` hae to sort out a courier to pick it up and get it to mine What couriers do you guys recommend
If you look at the pinned thread at the top of General Bass Discussion there is a whole heap of info on couriers.
4.
If you haven't already seen this, take a look a this clip from The Tube in 1985. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KWd-Qdb2Vc This would now be dismissed as fretw***ing, but at the time we hadn't seen anything like this before. It was pretty jawdropping, in the same way as Van Halen's Eruption was. King single-handedly re-invented the style from the thumb-heavy Larry Graham's 'thump and pop' to a drummer's rudimentary interpretation. Knock him as you may, but he really was an innovator.
That's about it in a nut shell about Mr King. I was just starting out on Bass when that came on The Tube. It was pretty amazing at the time. Flea is from a different moment in time, and he don't play and sing at the same time. You can't compare them.
5. I know it always sounds crap. But this really is a reluctant sale. This bass sounds fantastic, but 4 strings don't suit me anymore. So this is for sale to fund a 5er or a 6. Or I might trade / swap for a 5 or 6. Black Geddy Lee Jazz with Red scratch plate, original white one also included. Bass is in exceptional condition and comes with gig bag. Also just been fitted with a new set of Rotosounds. £500 ovno. As its in a gig bag I don't really want to post, but I can meet half way or offer the famous personal johngh delivery service if it's not to far to travel. (for a small contribution to diesel money) Please PM with offers
6.
I'll buy it mate.
PM answered, just need to arrange meet up. Thanks John
7. Had a few offers of trades, but nothing has taken my fancy, so up she goes.
8. Price drop to £150 inc case
9. I'm moving on my brown Epiphone Thunderbird. It comes complete with Epiphone T Bird Hardcase, strap and straplocks. I have moved the top strap anchor to cure the dreaded T Bird neck dive, other than that it's stock, and in very good condition. Collection prefered or can meet halfway. Please PM if interested. £150 ovno. May PX for a 5 string. 10. I've been like this before and actually sold all my gear once only to start up again. The worst thing you can do is sell your stuff, DON'T DO IT !!! Just take a break for a while. The worst thing for me is dealing with the never ending stream of idiots in trying to get a decent band together. It's soul destroying. At the moment though I've dropped on two bands that are really good, but it's took agaes to get to this point.
11. There is no way I would carry on if the RCD tripped out. NO WAY !!!!
12. Be good to have another one. Count me in
13.
Just a word of caution, I wouldnt go for the option of using one of the neck bolts as this has the undesired affect of pushing the headstock away from your body making it seem an even long reach to the 1st fret.
Thanks for the word of caution, but on the link that Hamster posted the extra strap anchor actually goes in the neck heel and the neck bolts are not used.
14.
By the power of Greyskull! - Shazam! - http://www.lysator.liu.se/~wizkid/music/thunderbird_mod/
Hammy your a star. I bought the Epi because I'm in a Wishbone Ash tribute band. I'm getting grief from the other lads because I won't play the Epi due to the neck dive. I'll re position the button before rehearsal tonight and give it another go.
15. OK, I have a Epi Thunderbird that has the dreaded neck dive. I know that there is a cure by re positioning the top strap button, but where is the best place to re position it to cure the problem. I don't fancy doing a pin the tail on the donkey job if you now what I mean. If anyone can post a photo of the best place to put an additional strap button I will be eternally grateful. Fang Koo
16. For me my thumb is either on the bridge or neck pup dependant on the tune I'm playing. Unless I'm playing my 6er then it's on the strings to get over the high end. That was something I just started to do, it wasn't something I was to aware of until I saw a video of myself playing
17. Not so much bored with Bass more like bored with being messed about when it comes to trying to get a band together. Got two projects that look like they might be going somewhere at the moment though so things might be looking up. If I get bored with it though I normally put a bit of Rush on and listen to his Geddyness. It normally gets me into it again.
18.
Get it lacquered by an auto shop. Probably cost you about £50 for a couple of coats of automotive lacqeur, which will be baked hard. Very very durable.
This will depend on what type of pen was used to sign the guitar as lacquer could make the ink run. I had a signed scratch plate laquered to protect the signature but the luthier tried the pen on the back of the plate and laqered it to make sure it didn't run.
19. The original is an absolute classic. The Glee version is Sh*te. It's yet another example of the pop machine taking a classic tune and ruining it. Were thinking of covering it. got a female singer so range isn't an issue
20.
Probably - I did, any hard foam will do. Grey pipe lagging foam is great - 60p for a metre and enough to do most of the UK's basses. Probably not.
Cheers mate, I'll give it a go.
21. After checking the Fender website for the correct pick up height for my Geddy Jazz and checking it, I've found that the neck pup is out. When I undo the pup screws to try to raise the pup to the correct height it won't raise, it's just loose. Do I have to pack under it to get it to the correct height or is there something wrong?
22.
I appreciate that failure to show item location from the outset may cause members some inconvenience and even cost them the effort of a PM. But I can equally understand that others of a nervous disposition might shy away from giving their location out to all and sundry, given the interweb's reputation for scamming, stalking and false identities. It might be bloody annoying, but it's also understandable, particularly if you're a newbie surrounded by a bunch of gruff blokes giving it large on core tone and how they'd like to lamp their frontman. It's fairly easy to establish where someone is - just ask them. So I oppose the motion, on the grounds that making it compulsory will probably cause some people not to post their gear for sale, hence reducing all our opportunities.
It's only a case of asking members to post which town they live in, or at the very least county, not a complete address.
