1.
After a recent spate of ads for sale here on Basschat that have no indication, either in the ad itself or in the user avatar of the seller's location, isn't it about time it was compulsory, just like a price? There's nothing worse than seeing a lovely bass for sale, only to find out after enquiring that it's several hundred/thousand miles away! I know that you could possibly search introductions but there have been quite a few posts by users not from these shores who have either just joined without a proper intro or who are inactive. There's nothing wrong with a distance transaction in principle, but unless you're dealing face to face or are known here it's not unreasonable to suspect a scam. Given the sums that basses can go for it's at least a courtesy to let prospective buyers know where you are. What do you think?
Not a bad idea. I'll take it up with my fellow mods.
2.
Hit a dog with a Jazz bass you should get a growl.
That's not strickly true, I dinked my doggie's head with my Jazz when I was putting it on it's stand (the bass, not the dog ) and the little bugger bit me on the ankle ( the dog, not the bass)
3.
As the starter of the original MILF and FILF threads i'd like to say they were done as a bit of fun. They were copied from another site that i use regarding James Joyce where they were popular as a bit of harmless craic. I did say in the original post that people should stay within site rules because i didnt want them to be seen as threads were people could have a go or grind an axe. Sadly thats what the MILF one became with posters like "PETE ACADEMY" taking negative feedback and fallout on threads like this ,apoligies to pete. If any women were offended then i'm sorry that was not the intention , if any blokes were offended then tough. My wife is finding the uproar hilarious as it was her that suggested Sting as a FILF. I apologise to the mods if this has created undue hassle for them i know how hard the job of mod is which is why i didnt run to them with p.m's whineing about "my threads being locked" You do a good job and dont need this crap ...sorry .
Don't worry about it. Modding decisions are made jointly by the mods when it comes to closing threads, except in the case where it's a clear cut porno issue for example, then a mod will normally close and delete the thread immediately. Can I suggest we all move on, enjoy the forum and please get this thread back on topic. Thanks
4.
where, why has our thread been closed? show me nudity in any of those pictures. SIMPLE MINDS eh?
It was thought by some members that the thread was a bit sexist, and being as we have female members as well on BC it was thought best to close it.
5.
Well, I've had a sleep on it now and time to reflect and I'm guessing that most of my initial annoyance was that, according to our "manager", there was no mention of being charged for food and drink or of the venue recovering their VAT from the band. According to our "manager" the last time this band played there, it was a straight 70/30 split. Thinking about it and pondering the fact that our "manager" didn't get it in writing, it being merely a verbal agreement, that perhaps the verbals she was hearing were different to those actually being spoken by the venue to her on the phone.... or she didn't ask the pertinent questions. Either way they've learned a valuable elementary lesson, though one which I didn't want to be on the receiving end of again. I have suggested to the "manager" that this shouldn't happen again and that all the current bookings and any future bookings should be backed up by a written or email agreement. Anyway, thanks for all your comments, I get the VAT thing now and I DO understand getting it in writing (see my earlier postings), but unfortunately the "manager" didn't. I'll just have to take it on the chin and if it happens again I'll look for a less cluelessly managed band or do it myself
Good old Jill. Some things never change. Not 100% sure if I've got your band right. But this same thing happened to my mates band on Friday. I used to play bass with them. Bet it's the same band. Clueless doesn't come close.
6. Number 2 for me. To do it before a rehearsal will leave an awkward mood through the rest if the rehearsal. Do it after and they may think they have just wasted their time turning up. Tell the band leader and leave it to him. I always try to finally leave once I have made my decision when they have found a replacement, not always easy though. Tin of worm's. Just get on with it if it's what you want.
7. Wot, no takers. I wonder why that is then !
8. Fantastic clips. It's kind of a poke in the eye that I should spend more time playing bass and stop Pi**ing about !
9. I've met up with Karlfer today to buy his Geddy Jazz off him. He brought this bass along for me to look at. It really is very nice. The photo's don't do it justice at all.
10.
How about getting pickups and electrics that allow you to put in a passive switch? Best of both worlds then.
Yes, That's an option. I'm leaving Jon alone though at the moment. He's bound to be behind with builds now due to the weather. I'm in no great hurry, so I'll leave it a few weeks and pick it up again then.
11. Phil Lynott's death affected me a lot as did Freddie's. It's not so much that they are dead, it's also so about all the music that was lost with them. Ya know, new tunes. I always get a bit annoyed if it's drug related though. Someone somewhere that knew them could have done something to help them, maybe. I always tend to think that the silly buggers brought their early demise on themselves.
12. I've put this build on hold for the time being as I seem to be drifting away from the whole active thing and moving back towards passive. So until I make my mind up, I'm not going to have it made.
13. Underrated Dennis Dunaway, awesome player. Overrated Steve Harris Most of the fretboard twiddle merchants as well. Except Mark King and Stanley Clarke.
14. There was a youtube thing on here the other week where a bass player tried it at a gig and the bass flew off and crashed onto the floor. It was hilarious. I can't find it though.
15.
MIJ / CIJ just specifies which factory built the bass. MIJ is Fujigen Gakki while CIJ is Iida Gakki or Tokai Gakki. Not sure why yours would have both, though. When was it made? Jon.
I've done a bit of a search tonight to find out when it was made and it's saying 1994/95 at the Fuji-gen Plant. So that answers that one. Looks like I have a MIJ then. Here she is. I used to own it before and have just bought it back. It's got a Gotoh bridge on it now and a different scratchplate. The original scratch plate was black, but I kept that when I sold it as I had got it signed by Glenn Hughes. I bought this one on Tuesday and on Saturday I'm buying a Geddy Jazz, so it would seem I have Jazz GAS at the moment. The Geddy has been bought for a special project. Thanks to OTPJ for the photo
16. I've just bought back my Fender Jazz 75 re-issue. On the headstock below the Jazz logo it says Made In Japan. On the back of the neck near the bottom where the neck fits into the body it says Crafted in Japan. So, which is it ?
17. Thanks guy's for the great feedback, it's been a pleasure dealing with you all.
18. I've just bought back my old MIJ '75 Fender Jazz from Nick. Top notch chap to deal with. He even travelled up in the snow to deliver it to me. He also bought on of his Pangborn's for me to drool over, er, sorry, look at ! Highly recommended
19. Just sold my Status to Matt. He's a very easy guy to deal with. Good straight sale. I delivered the bass to him in person. Fantasic hospitality from Matt and his Dad. Both top chap's Highly recommended
20. I was lucky enough to see Lizzy quite a few times. Phil was the ultimate frontman for me. It didn't matter when I saw him it was always like seeing an old friend again. I saw him with Grand Slam a few times as well. It was never quite the same though. I'm not ashamed to admit I sobbed like a baby when I heard he had died. His music had a massive influence on me. I've always said I would go to visit his grave to pay my respects. Think I will do it this year. R.I.P
21.
Yes I do agree but if it's within the rules I won't complain about it. I think *feelers* invite offers and that's pretty close to an auction isn't it?
Quite right, that's one of the reasons why we now ask for prices to be included in for sale threads.
22. Got to admit I've put up feeler for sale threads in the past. Mainly because I've seen a bass pop up for sale I've fancied and put a feeler up to try to sell a bass I already have to get the cash together to change bass. I don't suppose it's a problem to just put up a for sale thread and withdraw the bass if you decide not to sell though. At the moment I looking for a nice 5 or 6 string. If I make an offer for a bass on a feeler thread and the seller is dragging his heels making up his mind to sell or not, then I'll just move on to the next bass I fancy. Simple as that, they loose the potential sale. I also think its a lot better now seller put prices in their threads.
