Everything by ear for nearly 30 years; I sometimes think if I didn't have such a good ear I might actually knuckle down and work on my theory and reading.
+1 That's how I've learn tunes for about 30 years as well. I've not got a clue with tab. I can learn most stuff by ear very quickly, if I struggle with a certain passage I might bung it through Best Practise and learn it that way.
2. I'm putting my Yamaha TRB II 6er back up for sale. Come's complete with hard case. Its in exceptional condition, and sounds teriffic. I have 3 6ers including this one, so one's gotta go. Looking for a straight sale at £475, I will deliver if within a reasonable travelling distance from Derbyshire, or meet halfway. No trades sorry. Please PM with a sensible offer. RIP R,5,R,5...

Very sad news to be taken like this at no age at all really. Condolences to his family. John
4.
guitar stands are well worth the investment
Big +1 Don't leave home without em'
5. You can only put so much time into it without them making a decision. The last band I auditioned for got me learning stuff for two weeks prior to the audition. I turned up and played OK, but during a small break they asked me what else I was doing, I told them I was in a Wishbone Ash tribute band. At the end of the night the singer took me to one side and asked if we needed a singer for the Ash tribute as he was sick of this lot and was thinking of leaving. Needless to say 3 days later, I get a call to say that I was very good and they were all impressed but they are disbanding as this singer is leaving. Many evenings wasted learning tunes I'm not likely to play again. Not saying in any way this is how its gonna turn out for you, but like I said, you can only put so much time into it.
6.
Some of the very worst songs & lyrics I've ever heard are on the Stanley Clarke albums. He's a great player but most of his songs are bloody awful - I can't listen to them anymore because they just make me cringe.
Weee Supply all your Funky neeeedssssss! (Barf)
7.
ok gys thanks. Sorry im not the best tiper but ill try to spell better... (My dad always said he would prefer me to be a better musician than academick!)
Whats your big brother had to say about this then !
8. Johnny Hoof and Sheldonamps. Sorry guys I'm closing the thread as I'm not prepared to sit back and see it to develop into a slanging match. Thanks John
9. Glenn Hughes ex Deep Purple and now awesome solo artist, I can't stress how much of an influence this guy was I getting me to start to play bass. Many thanks to Lee Millward aka Wartypig for the use of the photo.
10. I've got a Ritter RG7000 BG Gig bag and its very good. Loads of pockets and stuff. No idea what it would cost now though but I don't have a problem recomending it.
11. Nah, don't chuck it all in. I've just had about 10 months of the usual waste of time idiots before I found a decent band again. Take a break from it for sure, but don't sell your gear. I had similar thoughts about 10 years ago, sold all my gear ( Jd basses and Trace rig) only to spend a fortune getting set back up again a year later.
12. Geddy's twin neck Ricky. Preferably the white one !
13. You'll walk it I'm sure. Only thing I can add is don't rely on the drummer to play it like you have learnt it, be ready to adjust slightly to keep the grove in the pocket and keep locked into whatever the drummer is doing. Good luck with it.
14.

Didn't know Dale Winton played bass ! Sorry !
15.
The Shukers I saw did look structurally very similar to some of the SEI models (In fact at first glance I thought they were SEI's). How do they compare?
I've had a Sei Flamboyant 6er and also had a Shuker 6er made. I've got to say the Shuke is incredible value for money and just as good as the Sei for a fraction of the cost. I don't really know how Jon Shuker does it. Just my opinion of course.
16. I've flown with my Basses quite a few times. I've always taken them on as hand luggage, but I've always taken them out of their cases and had them in gig bags. I've never had any problems at all. Most of the time I've managed to get them into the overhead luggage compartments. The basses in question have either been Status or my once owned Alembic Mark King. Needless to say, if the airline had insisted they went in the hold, and being as they were in gig bags I would have been in trouble.
17.
Wasn't Bad Urach, Germany by any chance?
No, he was at the Robin 2 at Bilston. He did his own stuff on Saturday night together with some Purple stuff and then on Sunday he did a whole set of Trapeze material. I had to miss the Sunday gig which was a shame, Saturday was brilliant though, as usual.
18. I saw Glenn Hughes in concert last weekend. some of the stuff he was playing using a pick was fantastic.
19. First time out for our newly formed Wishbone Ash tribute band named, wait for it ! Wishclone Ash. Da Daaaaaa !!!! We played an hour long set at a charity show. It went very well to say we only had six rehearsals. Dead chuffed. Played through a rig that was provided by the organisers. I expected some right cacky thing, but when I got there it turned out to be an Ampeg rig Wooo Hooo !!! Earth shattering sound or what ! GAS attack for new rig now,Bugger, thought I was over all that.
20. Welcome. If you are new to Bass you will find all the advice you need to get you going here. Enjoy.
21.
because anybody with an ounce of decency wouldn't sack somebody over email. imho of course
+1 It sucks, and show's a total lack of respect. (IMHO)
22.
Sorry, as it's slighty OT, but, in the end, it's kinda related to my mind.. And, why I do this publicly - it's not only the mods, whose attention I want to attract, but every-one Basschatter's.. I've just opened General Discussion page, which says (to me), that here we should talk about bass related things, and what do I see? In first 5 of 7 'hottest' threads we have questions about Amps, Strings, wood re-applying, and Warwick Wax. Sorry, but don't we have such sections as Amps And Cabs (for backline related stuff..); Miscellaneous Equipment and Accessories (that clearly say, we should talk about strings exactly THERE. Bass 'hyghiene' stuff also included; bass bridges??..) ...and Technical Issues (techy related things about bass) I'm not trying to offend anyone, or sound rude, but, hey, if I want to talk/read about BadAsses or strings, I go to the appropriate sections and, altogether, I'm expecting others to do the same.. Hey, can I get my coat now? Cheers, Faith.
Faith, if you have a problem with modding on the forum, please take it up via PM to the relevant moderator. That's the correct way to do it. I'm not making a big deal about it. Just trying to point you in the right direction in the future. We have had a few threads in General Bass Discussion about bridges, strings etc that have run quite well in this section of the forum. I have no problem with it staying here really. But being as Hot Tub has asked for it to be moved I will move it. This thread could have stayed in General Bass discussion though, no problem. Thanks John Ok, back on topic. Try Status Hotwires. I've used them on all my basses for a few years now and they seem to last for ages.
23.
ah well! women and children first! seems like they are dancin with the devil and goin crazy from the heat. I'll bet they have to Jump to get to the next level and maybe your just a little bit of a shy boy onstage which may not make a ladies night in buffalo but hey there's always a hot dog and a shake! I would just take out my Elephant Gun and give them Big Trouble... you could also get on some Sensible shoes and walk right onto Easy Street where those California girls are waiting for the Ice cream man to deliver some Perfect Timing! And at the end of it you need to just Stand Up and hope for some Lady Luck cause you know A little aint enough and when it all goes Damn Good you know Thats Life! take it easy mate definitely not the end of the world just a little one trick pony cover band!! andy
Brilliant !
