1. I've now decided to sell the Status. I've not even had it out of the case since I withdrew it from sale, so reluctantly it needs to go to someone who will play it. Please PM with any offers.
2. If its Brazilian your after try Evette Sangalo or Legiao Urbano or Gilberto Gil. All probably spelt wrong but all very different, a lot of Evette's stuff is very fast and the bass lines are amazing. There is also a brilliant brazillian bass player called Artur Maia who is up there with the best.
3.
Hi Dabootsy, yes we all have to play covers at times (and yes, it can get soul destroying!) I never play the original line, always making up my own (which is often more apt to the music!) Or at the least I "soup up" the original and make it better.
That's the deal, just soup up the original a bit. However, I don't play rock covers anymore, that IS soul destroying just batting about on a few notes all night. DUM DE DUM DUM DE DUM DUM DE DUM DUM DE DUM
4. Glenn Hughes' new Album, First Underground Nuclear Kitchen, plus a rehash of all of Glenn's previous albums. I can't get enough of the "Voice of Rock" at the moment.
5.
It's never ceased to amaze me why Glenn is slated by the Purple faithful as some sort of anti-christ. It's not even as if that band isn't prone to the odd line up change. Maybe it says more about one dimensional thinking in the fan base than it does about Glenns (too short) contributions.
Glenn is the reason I took up Bass over 30 years ago. I think it causes a stir with the diehard purp fans because of his "Voice of Rock" tag. The simple fact is his voice has just got better and better as time has gone on.
6. I went to see Glenn Hughes at the Robin 2 at Wolverhampton on Friday night, he was absolutely brilliant. He was that good, that I went to Liverpool on Saturday night to see him again ! Out of all the ex Purps, Glenn's music is forever moving with the times, his new album First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F.U.N.K.) is one of his best yet. If any of you get chance to get to his London show on Tuesday at the Astoria 2 get to see him, and see a master Bassist / Vocalist at work.
7. I've left 2 perfectly good Function / Tribute bands in the past due to "musical integrity" I've thought it would be good to get with a band that was doing decent original songs, but fact of the matter is, that more often than not, you still end up in bands that are playing music that your still not really into playing because of the lack of vacancies, at least in Derbys, Notts area. I can't play classic rock anymore because its not challenging enough, so to go back to the original post, I would learn the tunes because if nothing else you might learn one or two new licks. For the most part Muso's are to**ers, and trying to get in a band that is stable enough without at least one band member threatening to leave every other gig is very hard.
8. Now the infuence of the meths has worn off, I've decided to keep it. Thanks John
9.
Mmmmmmm ...................... dat sound purdy! Where abouts on the country are you?
I'm in Derbyshire. Pics are now added
10. I'm selling my Status S2 Classic 5 String thru neck with green Status front and side LED's. It just don't get played any more, so its a shame to keep it. It has a Burr Madrone top with gold hardware and is absolutley mint. It also comes with a Status Hardcase. £1350 ovno.
11. Alembic Mark King Signature, bought new by me, and I actually sold it for a profit 3 years later. Always regret selling it though.
12. +1 Its brilliant, and for £3 well worth it.
13. I'm gonna try to come for a couple of hours and bring a couple of basses, not going to bother with the rig though as the impending flight of stairs has put me off !
14. Been a good thread this, I've had some very exotic basses over the years, am I a snob ? probably ! There some basses I look at that just look bl**dy awful and sound even worse. I've never liked Precisions, always thought the Jazz was the better bass, I love the shape of the Status S2 Classic, and after I saw Doods Shuker I decided to get one myself. I also like to look at peoples gear lists in their signature, I never feel any envy about what gear they have, I just think every man to himself. All the basses I own are a pleasure to play and sound and look great, which at the end of the day is what its all about !
15. This bass looks teriffic, can't wait to see it finished. The back of the neck looks great
16.
I've already bought an Ashdown Superfly rig.
Nice tone as well with that Jazz Bumpety Zump
17. Its starting to look like a bass now CK, looks very much like mine as well. How much longer now till its finished ?
18. It must be remembered bretheren, that players like Jaco, McCartney and King defined new standards in playing bass. Jaco isn't my cup of tea, and I have tried so hard to like him, but I can't deny his influence in setting standards. I dislike Iron Maiden with a vengence , but I can't deny Mr Harris's talents or they would not have been so successful. Mark Kings instrumental stuff with Level 42 was incredible, its the post Running in the Family stuff thats mundane.
19. Parker I've answered your PM, if the price is right, I'll have it.
20. PM'ed Is the Status headed or headless
21. Rock Pebbles Sand is a good one, also East River Drive. I've just bought Toys of Men and dont like it at all.
22. I've owned stacks of gear over the years and Hartke is the best I've had by miles (IMHO) I've just never fancied owning Ashdown stuff at all. I've played through a couple of Ashdown rigs that were set up when we did some multi band charity gigs, and didn't like the sound of it at all.
