1. The Sei has been with Jon for a week now. He has tried to cure the dead spots but its not possible. So, shock horror, the frets have got to come out and the neck has to be re-levelled. And all for a bargain price. So at least I should be able to play it once it comes back.

Cab SWAP!

Welcome to the forum Sparky. I might be able to help so I've PM'ed you.
3.
Macster, you haven't missed out. We also discussed having it in Oxford as its near where Ped lives and he was going to take over scouting for a location. No dates have been discussed yet but we are probably are overdue for one. It depends on the level of interest I guess, the September ones generally have been the less popular events.
Er, can we try to keep it Midlands ish. I've been to 2 of them and had a great time. They were about a 150 mile round trip, but worth it. Oxford on the other had maybe too far for me.
4. Last year I bought a rack case and a wireless system that were both on offer. Sunday would maybe be best, but I was there last year on Saturday and it wasn't that busy.
5.
I dunno if it was mentioned before, but how much was it in total?
Well, for some reason Jon did me a very good deal on it. To be fair, a lot of people who have customs made tend to be a bit shy about quoting the price paid. If I posted the price on here it may p*ss people off who may-may not have payed more for theirs, and possibly put Mr Shuker on a sticky wicket. I will PM you with the guide price though.
6. This is a bargain, I can't believe nobody has snapped it up. I have a S2 classic 5 and its brilliant. If its not up for sale on the statii site, try it there. www.statii.com
7. Many thanks for all the comments guys ! It had its first outing yesterday and it was brilliant, it has a very powerful even sound to it and looks great. I wish I could do sound clips, but I don't have the technology ! Yep it was worth the wait, and for the money its an absolute bargain. Jon took loads of photo's when I went to collect it and he will send them through when he has time, so when I get them I will post them up as my photo's are sh*te.
8.
Save up and custom order an Alembic direct from the US. you will never play a better bass in your life (IMO) Jake
I had an Alembic Mark King and the neck was always on the move, I spent more time setting it up than playing it, so in the end it was sold. I've just had my Headless 6 made by Jon Shuker, and its brilliant, its the cleanest sounding bass I've ever had. I've got a Sei 6 as well and the Shuke is better than that. I would also say that the Shuke was well over a grand less to have made, and trust me, there is no difference in build quality. They will both be at the next Basschat bash whenever that is ! Then you can all judge for yourself.
9. Well lads a lasses here she is, I give you "Blondie" The pics are the best I can do at the moment. I will try to get better ones done. The pics don't do it justice at all. She plays like a dream, and will get her first outing tomorrow at a gig in the morning, and rehearsal with a different band in the afternoon. 10. I've been to Jon's today to collect mine. Its been on order since Feb this year, I told him to take his time with it, so I can't grumble about the wait. I saw a lot of comments about Jon's service before I went up today. He makes no secret about the fact that he has problems with his e mails. I agree that its a lot easier to get him on the phone, which is what I ended up doing. He admits that his main problem is getting suppliers to get things to him on time, even though they are ordered well before he wants them. Most of Jon's stuff is custom made now, so its impossible for him to keep stocks of pups, mine were pretty unusual and had to be a special order. There are a lot of people on here having Shukers made, if we are all on his case wanting photos every 5 minutes, it will eat into his build time. Now I have my bass I can say its stunning, Jon is without doubt a Master Craftsman, I am lucky enough to have a Sei Flambouyant 6 as well as the Shuke, the build quality on the Shuke is every bit as good as the Sei, and I recon the Shuke was well over a grand cheaper as well. Go figure. Tinman, yer bass looks great mate. I got a couple of pics off for you. PM me if you want me to mail them to you.
11. On my Shuker 6 headless I went for EMG 45P, 45J, pups and Shuker 3 band Eq. This was based on listening to the soundclips on Jons site. I loved the tone of James Crofts Thru neck Deluxe 6, Zebrano body, wenge / maple neck, santos f/board. I pick mine up in the morning Ho Hum ! and Jon recons it sounds a peach. I went for birdeye maple fingerboard as I liked the look of Doods bass, and quilt maple top as I love quilt maple, we went with white ash body to keep the blonde look of the instrument. James Crofts bass is the 3rd one down in the soundclips link on Jons site, check out the tone, its great. Pics of mine will be up tomorrow on my build thread.
12.
Yeah me too .... everybody after me .... What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now !
Well, mines been on the go since Feb this year, I know Jon has had a bad time getting suppliers to give him the stuff he has ordered for all the basses he is making, and its drove him crazy. But a lot has been out of his hands, so much so that there are certain pup makers that he is not that happy ordering from.
13. Just spoken to Jon this morning, the Bass is finished and I can collect tomorrow !!! and get this, he says it sound amazing with a very rich bright but deep tone It sound like just what I was after. I've asked him for a few weeks now not to send me photos, so I can get the WOW factor when I pick her up. The next 24 hours are going to be murder ! Photos will be up tomorrow !!
14. Drummers are the bane of my life at the moment, just tell him to sort himself out and tell him in no uncertain terms he's holding you all back. Its the only way forward.
15. Great looking woods Pete, I'll have a good butchers when I'm up there on Saturday to pick mine up !
16. Chris, I'm pleased that you are getting the Flea sorted, you are doing the right thing. I was going to suggest taking it to a decent luthier, but its the only option really. I've just bought a Sei that needs a bit of TLC so its off to Shuker. Its always a risk buying anything secondhand, but I will never buy anything off Evilbay or from across the water because the risk just magnifies itself 1000 fold if anything goes wrong. Your right though, folk on here on the whole are a gunuine bunch, and well done for getting the bass sorted even though you had no legal obligation to do so, speaks volumes of you mate !
17. Beautiful bass mate, congrats on a great set up !
18.
Yeh, it's a cool quote to go on the back of CDs or any promo stuff.
Thats a great idea, we used to get hate mail on our band forum when I was with a Tribute Band. They never tell you to your face, its always by e mail or forum.
19. WoooHooo the tuners have finally arrived, I think Jon had to send an Interstellar Starship out to Jupiter to get them they have taken so long to arrive,or the pidgeon got lost ! I'm now on for a Saturday pick up
20.
My experiences of Barto pickups are not inspiring either. Is it worth considering a pickup swap too?
It may be Rich. I'm going to let Jon have a look at the Bass first and sort the neck out. There is supposed to be an internal pot on the preamp that will boost the midrange, it might be a simple case of sorting that out. I'm not going to fanny about with it because I will probably make it worse. I thought of taking it to Martin at The Gallery, but I'll just end up paying Gallery prices for something that Jon can do, I'm lucky to have Mr Shuker more or less on my doorstep.
21. I have a 6 string Sei Flamboyant that has Bartolini P4 pups and an Aguilar OBB3 preamp. The problem is it just don't sing. Its a 2 band EQ bass and treble, with the treble whacked up full its as dead as a dog. The Bass pot is far too sensative, just a bit of boost and its very boomy, after that its unusable. So its off to Mr Shuker for an overhaul, and a new 3 band preamp. But which one ? Any help will be appreciated. I have talked to Jon about it and he agrees that the OBB3 is very bass biased.
22.
Incidentally did you do the radio or CD version? or did it vary according to the gig?
We did the mucky version unless there were kids in. We played it at the end of the night when everybody was well oiled, always went down well !
