1. Names John (big surprise) played Bass for 30yrs, enjoy laying down a grove. Want to learn slap and tap but always to knackered when I get home from work (85 mile drive in total to and from work) to put serious practice in. Play mainly 5 and 6 string now, I moved onto 6ers and then found the neck on a 4 to fiddly when I tried one again. sh*te on a 6 but like the necks on them (is it only me !!!) After keeping most of my current gear for the last 5 years, I'm now undergoing major GAS where I seem to be wanting to change everything...Help !!!
  2.
MB1. May trade!....... w.h.y. (mark bass,rickenbacker,status??????)
Fancy a Stingray !
  3.
The strange thing about BGM is that very few newsagents I've come across seem to stock it. Stranger still is that I didn't even know BGM existed until I spotted just one copy on a newsagent's shelf when visiting the town I grew up in; Portstewart, a small seaside town on the north coast of Northern Ireland. There can't be that many bassists in Portstewart surely? I took out a subscription soon after.
I took out a subscription as well, well worth it and saves fannying about at the newsagents. The latest issue is a peach
  4. Your PM replied to. I'm having it, job done !
  5. The stingray is now back up, I can't control the Sei GAS...gotta have it !
  6.
If I was you, I'd be looking around for some second hand stuff, as £300 will buy you a lot of amp these days. Stretch your budget a little further, and you can be looking at some serious kit that will be capable in all but the largest gig situation.
+ 1 on that. Why not move further down the forum to the items for sale section. Loads of stuff in there well within your budget. Welcome to the forum.
  7.
They may like to start out with a body somewhat like a Jazz ... OK I know that sounds conservative and boring but ... The Fender Jazz is successful for all sorts of reason - not just the looks but the balance, playability, functionality, pickup position, access to the neck etc etc I think most luthiers make "Super Jazzes" as their bread and butter basses and probably sell loads more of those than anything else. Trying to come up with a new shape body that works as well and looks as "together" as a jazz is a tough call and probably something to try after getting the rest of the thing right ...
At the risk of getting shot at by the diehards, here is my tuppence worth. There are a million and one Jazz style designs out there at the moment. Anything new along those lines has got to be very very good to even get a look in. It depends on the price range as well. I like a bass that is versatile and that will give me a range of sounds that I can dial in quickly without fuss. I had an Alembic once and it was a nightmare, the tone controls were way too sensitive. My advice is to keep it simple. I agree on the comments about the horns though, think I'd ditch the pickguard as well, let the wood show through.
  8. Oh nooooooooooo, serious GAS developing....hellllllllllllp
  9. Welcome to our low end sanctuary where the talk is great, and the Basses on display are even better !! P.S. Don't be surprised if you end up with serious GAS very quickly by hanging around on here.

  13. This beautiful white Stingray 4 is unfortunately up for sale. This Bass is only a few months old. I have just bought it from MB1, and can't get on with it. I miss bottom "B" too much, and decided that 5 or six strings is the way forward. It is as new with not the slightest blemish on it. I will sell for £700 o.v.n.o. It comes complete with a Musicman hard case. SORRY NO TRADES, I'm buying a Sei Bass and need the dosh ! I'm prepared to deliver or meet half way. I hate posting basses !!! Serial Number E54524 MORE PICS ADDED BY REQUEST

    MB1 Feedback

Just bought a mint as new Stingray off Martin. Makes great coffee, as well as giving you a whole packet of choccie biccies to munch on while you finalise the deal when you visit MB1 Towers.
  15. Just got back home after buying MB1's Stingray. The Warwick he has for sale is a beauty, the photo's on the thread don't do it justice. Have a bump on me chap ! P.S. thanks for coffee and chockie biccies !!!
  16. Cheers mate, It was good to meet you. I've just got home after a 200 mile marathon dropping off the Status to you in Coventry and then going to Manchester to buy MB1's White Stingray. Long day, but worth it, job sorted. P.S. the wifes face was a picture when I got home and opened the Stingays case "Oooooo Thats nice" can't be bad ! first time she's said that about one of my basses.
  17. Again the Comfort Strapp, pricey, but worth it.
  18. I've has a HA3500 for a few years and used a various Basses with it through a Hartke 1x15 and a Hartke 2x10 transporter cabs. The set up has been 100% reliable and I've also got a good sound very quickly wherever I have used it. I think its the Cabs that have let you down, not the amp. £300 seems a bit on the steep side though.

What you up to nowadays?
Nothing much, just looking for a decent band. I've sent you a PM rather than clutter up the forum. Welcome to EOS as well, I think you pinched his hello thread ! Hello!
Hello fellow bassists!! Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a long serving member over on TalkBass but thought I'd give this forum a whirl due to it's UK connection. I've been playing for 38 years now and have spent the last couple of decades heavily involved with the tribute circuit. My current bands are: The Beautiful Sound - Beautiful South Tribute (I have, I believe, replaced another Basschat member). The Dan Collective - Steely Dan Tribute
Welcome Neil to the fold, good to have you around. You did replace another Basschat member in the "Sound" me ! Enjoy the gig.
  21. Played Bass for about 28 years, and still consider myself to be average ! Had a brief association with HWOBHM band Witchfynde years ago. Played in loads of Club - Function Bands. Gets very irritated when told "the bass is to loud, turn it down" And normally manages to control the GAS, except when I do get GAS its major. Have a Shuker 6 Headless on order at the moment, and also just about to buy a EBMM Stingray. Just left a Beautiful South Tribute band after deciding I really needed to play some proper music, and just about to set up a Rock three piece outfit. Work as a Quality Engineer in the Automotive Industry and spend a fair bit of time at Jaguar,Honda and Land Rover. Married to a wonderful Brazilian woman I met when I lived in Brazil, and on the whole, things couldn't be better. Except I could do with more dosh.
  22. Looks like this is Sold now pending payment. Many thanks to all who have shown an interest. John
  23.
Johngh - it sneeks up on you. The first time I listened to it was in the car, so no the best place to hear everything and it didn't grab me at all. Another few listens at home and I was still struggling with some of the tracks. I came back to it after a few weeks and it was grabbing me. Put it on yesterday and I can finally say I like it all. What you would call a grower.
Thanks mate, Albums that take a bit of getting into are normally the best ones in the end. I need to get it away from the car and onto the HI-FI.
