  1. I found this the other day: http://www.thomann.de/gb/sm_pro_audio_q_adat.htm Which gives you 8 line inputs to ADAT Two of these and one of the MOTU 2408 or similar rack units would seem to do the job, and relatively cheaply. Any thoughts on this option?
  2. I have to say for a bit of low gain grit the ODB-3 is perfect. I use it to add a bit of low end and a very slight amount of dirt. The blend and EQ are very useful
  3. The ODB-3 should be able to match the output level of your bass, but maybe your bass is just ridiculously loud? If you're looking at the BDDI definitely check out the Behringer BDI21. That's what I used for this: https://soundcloud.com/creepjoint/bass-invader (another guy playing the bass but I did the sound) and I love it
  4. Thanks rmorris! I'll give it a go with servisol and brushes for now, see how I get on Unfortunately my ultrasonic cleaning tank is only big enough for a 16 channel mixer, and this one is 24

  6. I have some servisol, but I'm nervous about scraping components. So, I can use the servisol to free up the gunk a bit but then how would you physically remove it? A sponge? I realise this probably sounds stupid

  8. A while ago I bought a mixing desk 2nd hand. While it looked OK when I collected it, it soon became apparent someone had spilled some sort of oil on it Now, I don't think oil would damage many electronic components, but there are a couple of issues (two Auxilliaries don't work etc) which I'd like to troubleshoot. To do this I could do with cleaning up all of the dirt from inside the desk. So, what's the best way to get rid of gunk and grime from electronics?
  9. I've done the same. I finally managed to get a better sound from blended dirt pedals but if it works for you, stick with it!
  10. I can't see anything in your list which should lose low end. Have you tried each pedal individually to find out where the problem is?

I don't understand why there's no legislation for this. I know I said it last week but I just don't understand why we have people calling themselves professional sound engineers who then subject themselves to volume levels which are demonstrably damaging their hearing. Not just theirs, but all the staff, and all the customers. When I go to a venue on the rare occasion I've forgotten my ear plugs I feel like I'm being assulted through the ears. I play drums in a few bands. The rock band I play LOUD, the reggae band not so much, the folk band I play quiet. I wear ear plugs for all of them

  14. My mate and I used to listen to about 6 or 7 different Joni Mitchell albums while we worked. Just beautiful music and lyrics. I'd better dig the CDs back out!
  15. When I saw them on Jools... Haha, don't know the song sorry but I would recommend playing about with the pedal as you'll learn a lot. I learned all about effects and how to use them by playing with my first Zoom multi effects years ago. So maybe try all the different synth models and play with their controls. Not the quickest solution I suppose but worth it in the end
  16. I'd quite like a legal limit on the volume level of gigs. Not necessarily one of these sound limiters that trips off the power, but just a rule to keep it to X level. When I go to tiny venues and the PA is whacked up to compete with ridiculous full stacks and everyone is standing there without ear plugs... this is doing permanent damage to their ears and no-one seems to care.
  17. go to devices and then VST connections (I think) and it'll say which input on the soundcard is going to which input in Cubase, but if it's just a stereo interface it'll have one stereo input by default, left being 1 and right being 2. when you add a mono channel to record, set the input to the right one and you're done

  19. that's great untune, very useful! All the RME units I've looked at have minimal analogue inputs meaning I'd have to get a bunch of ADAT converters. Fine, but the cheaper ADAT stuff all have pre-amps built in, which I don't need. The bigger MOTU units seem quite well regarded in terms of reliability, but their drivers aren't considered as stable as RME The most attractive deal I've found is that 24 i/o on Ebay but it is out of my budget... May be best to bite the bullet and stick it on a credit card

  21. Go with whatever works, but... if you prefer the sound bypassing your pre-amp you might look into replacing your amp with a poweramp
  22. it's not just down to you, your drummer needs to be addressing it to. It's all about contrast, so if it sounds like it drops out from one section to another, he should play a smaller sounding cymbal in the previous section, and a bigger sounding cymbal in the empty section. IE if currently he switches from a crash in the chorus to a ride in the solo, he should instead swap the two around, or maybe go from crash to open hats. I've always played in 3 peices. I've used a variety of different ways to fill space. Distortion is probably the most popular. Octave down or up can work. Playing chords works really well for me but can be difficult to get them to sound good (normlly sounds muddy). I use a dirty sound with loads of high mids when playing chords.

  24. I use google calendar for all my personal commitments. I wouldn't necessarily want everyone in every band to be able to see all these, but I like that I have all my gigs listen on my phone. Is there a way for me to combine my personal google calendar with a group google calendar?
