1.
I love when people get all high and mighty about this. Or when they say they will "see you in court" over something like £30
The thing is a lot of shop/office workers will fall for it and capitulate. Fair enough, lose £2.50 for good customer relations, but £117 x 10 units! Not going to happen
2. I uploaded a set of prices to our website. Due to some quirk with decimal places, something that should be sold for £130 was listed at £13. Obviously some bright spark ordered loads at £13 to sell on. I apologised for the error and explained that I'd have to cancel and refund. They went mental about trading standards and false advertising. Funny thing was a guy in our warehouse saw it too and asked if he could have the lot at £13 to flog on Ebay! Cheeky bastard! You'd get a few sandwiches for £117! No Tesco big eat chicken and stuffing though, they're long gone, never to be seen again
3. no clean blend on the proton is there?
4. I would wait until you've found a modern rig good enough before you sell! I would say it's definitely possible for you to find a modern rig you like as much, but only you will be able to say which rig that is, and it may take a lot of searching I would imagine the "feel" you're getting from an all valve amp could be replicated with some clever compression. This is probably what they build in to the modellers. The Kemper is certainly very well regarded and worth a try if possible
5. I really want the MXR now
6. An old couple local to me were knocked out and robbed in their own home after agreeing to let a buyer collect... this was off ebay I think. You never know. If you have a large mate who can accompany you that would be best I think.
7. I like the dunlop thumb picks designed for acoustic guitar. It makes it much easier to grip and they're nice and thick. I like to play hard with a pick and generally grind them down very quickly having said all that I ran out of picks a couple of years ago and just don't bother now. If I want to "pick" I just use the nail of my finger, seems to work OK (until it rips and makes me cry) Also palm muting doesn't seem to have affected my wrists anywhere near as much as my teenage bedroom explorations. I wonder how many evenings Carol Kaye spent fantasising about Laura from the sixth form? It's not her technique that saved her from injury, it's a total lack of libido.
8. could do you a deal, link to my website is in my sig, there are plenty of examples on my soundcloud
9. I have a Zoom Q3, the video quality isn't great but the sound is ace!
10. ok, in that case ask Hartke and don't let it clip until you have an answer!
11. the clipping we're on about here is pre-amp clipping, surely? If your amp has a warning light for the power amp overloading then you should probably take it fairly seriously. My peavey has this, and I make sure it almost never lights up. That doesn't stop me clipping the pre-amp though if I want (which I don't)
12. people are always whinging about the local scene here in Stoke but depending on the genre there are plenty of good gigs around. The problem is if you want to play doom-death-grime-core-step-hop no-one will come and watch. It doesn't mean there's no scene, it just means the people round here still want oasis covers.
13. it depends on the amp and what sound you're going for. There's no need to be cautious though, whatever sounds best is best!
14. I had a metal band in the studio a couple of weeks ago to do one song. Tracking it was easy, getting it to sound right is taking ages! I'm hoping to finish it off tonight With my folk band we did the bass and drums for 15 tracks in 6 hours, main vocals and main guitars for 5 of those in 6 hours the following day, and it sounds fantastic, will be dead quick to mix. It sounds like EBS-Freak is saying it's taking ages to mix AND master his track, not just master it? Which would explain the time involved.
15. Isn't there a cheaper option of getting a bass which looks the part, maybe even looks like a Ric, but doesn't cost the money?
16. I use mine when I have some space in the bassline, definitely not for a "driving" line. I use it with some dirt and it just adds variety E.G there's a verse where the bassline has space and is a bit funky, I use the envelope filter, then the next section is just a heavy riff, I kick off the envelope, keep the dirt on, and it provides contrast to make the riff seem extra heavy when it kicks in
17. I wouldn't waste my time trying to get in to music that doesn't move me. Elvis, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica... I could go on, but there are a hell of a lot of "universally" lauded acts who do nothing for me
18. Yep, although depending on your filter/overdrive you may want to tame the dynamics with a compressor first as SK8 likes
19. Played United FC on Saturday at their pre-match thing. It was ace! Great atmosphere
20.
No because after the 12th, 7th and 5th the next easiest harmonic to sound is roughly at 4th fret.
interesting, I thought it was the third, I'll be testing this later!
21. I always thought the standard markers were based on where the harmonics* are *I don't know the proper word for it, but those harmonics that are easy to play, obviously there are harmonics all over but they can be very difficult to get to sound
Unlined fretless necks I think usually have side dots at the fret positions; with lined necks I think it's usually the dots in the same place as a fretted neck.
that would seem to make sense
22. on a fretless, (with markers) do they put the markers in the middle of where the fret would be, or where the actual note is?
23.
You know, if you use the right equipment, you can make almost any bass sound like almost any other bass. A 4-band parametric may solve all your problems.
This is my opinion, if it sounds too harsh, EQ it!
