1. check out this page: http://www.thomann.de/gb/cat_PG_3.html?gf=usb_audio_interfaces&oa=pra That'll probably be the cheapest site to buy from. You can filter on the left hand side for the number of analogue inputs you need
2.
Is it really rude? why is it it expected that bands stay to watch other bands? That really baffles me. I stay when I like what I hear and I'm interested. Otherwise... why on earth would I stay?
Totally agree here. When I first started gigging I'd stay to watch, but after a while you get sick of too many sh*t bands. If the band is good I stay, if not, I'm off home!
3. I would buy this: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/221948-akai-dps12-daw-recorder-12-track/ and a few mics and learn how to record using that Or yeh you could get an interface and use your laptop, what's your budget?
4. you get them with every PC and Monitor you buy, so if you're like me, you have hundreds of kettle leads and you just don't care.
5.
The meaning of cheap has changed. Cheap used to mean shoddy. It basically means it would still be crap at half the price not that it would be inexpensive at half the price. People use the saying wrongly.
Ahhhh, that makes sense now, thanks!
6. "cheap at half the price" Yes it would be, so why not halve the price? Or were you being sarcastic? Why are you saying this?!?
7. Just bought a headphone amp dealie off Ian, perfect transaction, couldn't have gone better!
8.
Sorry but I'm going to disagree.... loudness doesn't equal excitement; never has. Have fun playing loud if you want, but loud is just loud.
that's not what I'm saying. Loudness doesn't equal excitement, but when it comes to drums, excitement equals loudness. I guess for some drummers excitement would equal speeding up, or playing loads of flashy fills or something, but I get excited by big heavy half time riffs, and I like to play them so hard that my hands are sore for days.
9. OK, ta, would have to be done by 7pm ish on Saturday as I have a gig but could do late on Sunday and early start both days.
10.
I've never quite understood the appeal of turning up so loud that you have to then wear ear protection, which reduces the effective volume anyway. It's like replacing domestic light bulbs with 500W halogens and then wearing sunglasses.
The drummer gets to hit them harder, which means he's more excited, which I guess makes everyone else more excited. All I know is, practise is a lot more fun, and feels "heavier" when we're all turned up. Also, to be fair, the snare drum sounds a sh*t load better when it's hit harder.
11. I'm in Talke Pitts, ST7 1PW, takes about 40 minutes from central manchester but obviously it depends on traffic and where abouts in Manchester you're travelling from. I could free up the weekend for £100/day no problem
12. I never met him but like others had great conversations and lots of helpful advice. A great guy, and you're right, it's never been the same without him!
13. I play drums in a few different bands, and we always keep it quiet except for my rock band where I absolutely smash them, because this way everyone has more fun. There's nothing wrong with rehearsing loud as long as you have ear protection!
14. I'd just say you want to make sure you'll get a cut of any profits before you invest - get a contract or something
15. Yeh put your effects first, then the thumpinator, then the limiter, then the amp
16.
I think you missed me ripping it out of the ODB-3 haha. Si
When I realised Jon Stockman is using an ODB-3 I stopped trying to defend the pedal... the battle is already won.
17.
B7K as stated here - http://sheponbass.co...n-stockman.html
cheers Shep - I'd actually read that before and forgotten!
18. I think if you have a dirty pedal but you don't like the sound of it without a clean blend, then yeh, maybe you have the wrong pedal, but, maybe you just like the effect of clean in parallel with dirt, which a lot of bassists do. It's not always that the pedal is sucking low end (although you read that a lot) sometimes it's that you want a bit of punch at the same time as horrible dirty mush. A while back I asked the guy from Karnivool if he ran a clean blend on his board, and he said no, you don't need to if the pedal is good enough. Fair point - but he's running an ODB3 with built in clean blend! Awesome sound though. I saw them again at Nottingham on Friday and got talking to him after. He was raving about some darkglass pedal. I was a little drunk so don't remember which one but I really want to find out!
19. The worst one we had was a pub where absolutely everyone was standing outside, and we were alone in a hall. The guy asked us to do two hour long sets, ended up playing to no-one until 12:30. Oh actually, a battle of the bands in wolverhampton, you weren't allowed to use your own rig, there were 2 guitar amps and a bass amp, and my standard rig (in a 3 peice) was to use a guitar amp as well as a bass amp, so I set up like that. The organiser turned off the guitar amp and forbade me from using it because no other bassists did!
I've been told by drummers that, although sticks are louder, It takes more energy to play with rods than sticks. The last time our drummer played with rods (to keep the volume down), he ended up dripping with sweat after the gig, even though he sounded a lot quieter than usual. That energy transferred to the whole bands performance and we played and sounded better than ever.
Depends, my rods are about as heavy as my sticks, and I can get them to go just as loud too Also, I don't mind playing without soundcheck. If you sound good at rehearsal, it would take a really sh*t soundman to give you a sh*t live sound, and I know they exist, but no amount of checking will help!
20. Sorry I don't get to spend a lot of time in here, and I would not blame anyone for ignoring this as I hardly ever get to listen to other people's posts in this section. Anyway, I would appreciate any thoughts on my two latest mixes here: https://soundcloud.com/rifffactoryrecordings-1 If anyone in the midlands wants a recording doing please get in touch
21.
I could play power chords I suppose...
Yep, try it! I often play power chords with a bit of distortion for a massive sound. Otherwise play the line an octave up with an octave down effect, or distortion etc. Simply boosting the volume won't fill out the sound IMO.
22. Very interesting! Just on the subject of a controller... I was going to make one for a video project by assigning different keys on a keyboard to different functions, and then dismantling a USB keyboard and replacing the buttons with foot switches in a box. I thought that might be a simple way for you to go
23. nice one! That's a pretty valuable pedal to be gigging! Do you find the bypass OK? And do you bother with a clean blend or just use the mixed settings on it?
24. I'm trying to figure out if you could use this with a PC and Itunes - can't find it on the digitech site, it just says you need an IOS device, does anyone know?
25. which whammy is that?
