1. When mixing drums, I generally get the overheads sounding nice, which might take a bit of EQ and compression, and then I solo each individual close mic and work out where a mid-cut should be. So, on the snare top, a cut around 600Hz might sound good. On the bottom, a cut around 1K or 5K. On the kick around 200Hz etc etc. Then I like parallel compression on the whole kit, and probably individual compressors on the kick and snare
2.
+1 for overlcockers, i got all the componants for my last pc build there, the processor and mother board bundles are always pretty decently priced imo, and saves hassle trying to find the ones that pair up
Yeh their support isn't bad either I have used Novatech in the past who were cheap - on a par with Ebuyer I guess. I've never had to deal with support/customer service from any of these
3. ebuyer tends to be very cheap. Overclockers do some good "bare bones" systems which always save time and hassle. Those are the two I use Your system sounds like a dream come true, I wish I could afford the same! EDIT: I should say, I regularly record 10-20 channels of audio at 48Khz, 24bit, all to external USB drives, so you should be fine without going SSD
4. Oh god, now I'm nervous... these "rush jobs" are going to be better than my months of agonising!
5. Some bands I love so much I happily play for nothing. Other bands i'd find it hard to keep turning up if there was no money. Some are like pure passion, others are like a job. So, it depends why you're playing the music!
6.
...but my ears have had enough!
7. Maybe the real problem is not Rickenbacker, but the companies such as Ebay, Gumtree etc who capitulate at the first whiff of a lawyer
8. Not sure why you're using an LS-2 with the ODB-3 as the ODB-3 has it's own blend control If I'm right and your LS-2 is redundant, you could switch it out for an EQ pedal or the like to give you an extra switchable tone But yeh, the programmable sansamp does look ace
9. I just googled rockinbetter, there are loads of businesses selling them, and yet he goes after private sellers? No wonder people get pissed off!
10. I think it depends on how you set it, mine does cut the signal completely in between notes if I want it to, but I generally don't, I just want to avoid feedback.
11. I think you can sing! It's all just a bit too "wet". You should submit your stems for next months mix competition - see what can be done
12. I thought the NS2 was a gate? that's what I use, and mainly 'cos I use high gain distortion from pedals, which feedback a lot without a gate 'cos I like to play loud
13.
My EUB into an Eden amp and Di-ed straight out the back as far as I know. Joe has a load of valvey compressory real things and plugins that he sticks on everything. It makes stuff sound nice. Come to Devon Tom... record us.....
Hah, it's a little too far, although would make for an excellent holiday!
14. You need a MIDI floor controller like this: http://www.studiospares.com/midi-controllers/behringer-midi-foot-controller-fcb1010/invt/370140/?source=215_74&gclid=CPOYwJf6-7UCFUbKtAodux4ASA
15. It's a shame you're so far away, I'd love a crack at recording this sort of stuff! How did you get the bass sound by the way? amp/pedal/plug-in?
16. Just listened to Cage A Lion. What a gorgeous bass sound! And a great song. Nice one If you want opinions on the mix... I would have a little more low end in the kick drum, The BVs could be wider - not sure if they're doubled? But I would have doubled them and panned them wide. Other than that very, very nice.
17. The music's pretty cool! I think the effects on the vocals might be a bit much. The first one is lacking a bit in terms of dynamics but the 2nd one works really well!
18. oh god, I think I might be the equivalent of a basschat hipster?? Obscure 6 string bass, 20+ pedals, all through cheap old peavey amps. Over playing on pretentious original instrumental music, but without the skill to back up my pretentions. I own a soldering iron but would never dare modify my bass. And to top it all off I hate watching covers bands!!!
19. I like multi effects and often use them in conjunction with my massive collection of single pedals... But if simplicity is what you're after, i'd just get some single pedals. For one, I've never liked the tuners on multi-effects, the displays just don't work for me.
20. heh, best as in the most in need of polishing?
21. If you're using rack effects, you have to have a floor controller anyway, so personally I don't see any advantage over a multi-effects pedal I've heard good things about the V amp stuff but not tried it myself. If you just want to fill your rack I'd get a rack tuner and a decent compressor
22. For me, heaviness is a lot to do with rythm and contrast. For example, a lot of RATM is heavy and yet it's just in a "standard" chromatic bluesy key.
