  1. I have a peavey combo and a 2 x 12" guitar amp which I use together. I think it cost me £250 or so in total. The sounds I can get (using pedals too) are just amazing, and it's easily loud enough for pubs without PA.

I am posting less now than I used to, but then I used to post on all sorts of topics just because I had too much free time and/or couldn't be bothered to get my work done. these days I try to get more work done and only post on topics i'm genuinely interested in. That doesn't mean the forum's getting worse, i've just changed the way i'm using it. This kind of thread comes around once or twice a year, and that's proof enough for me that the forum's not changing. the voting system - I hadn't noticed it to be honest, but I guess this is why there are less threads full of "+1" posts.
  3. 5imon turned me on to Reaper and I have to say it's ace. I'm still usng Cubase 'cos i'm so used to it, but i'd say it was perfect for you.

  6. I just bought a pre-amp off Steve. It was shipped out very promptly and packed very well. Perfect transaction! He even included a kettle lead

[/quote] Our bassist is handling it, although I think he may have gone overboard on Facebook. I'm not signed up there so can't check. He runs a very successful venue in Stoke so has a lot of contacts etc. I think he wants to ruin their reputation.
  9. We were supposed to play "Vudu" in Birmingham on Saturday. We drove all the way down there only to be told it was cancelled. You'd think the first thing to do would be to phone the bands and let them know
  10. more high mids and play harder! The keyboard player wants more attack in your sound, i'm sure (if he's a decent musician) he won't care how you go about it.

  12. I get my pedals set right at rehearsal and then leave them at gigs. If I need to make a change at gigs, it's to my whole sound, so I do it on the amp's graphic EQ.

  14. yeh a compressor is for taming peaks, not for boosting a signal. If you're happy with your tapping technique, it just needs to be louder, then a booster is exactly what you need. Sometimes an EQ is more appropriate than a booster if you only want to boost certain frequencies.

[/quote] Thumb picks would sort this. I use thumb picks so that I can swap to fingers without putting the pick down.

  17. Just bought a TB looper off Shep, got it two days after payment, nicely packaged etc. you can't get better than that.

  19. you have to have pedals that go in the feedback loop surely? But yeh a feedback loop with a distortion pedal in will make some weird noises for you. If you could afford to get a multi effects, like one of the plastic Zoom units, and then put that in a feedback loop, you'd have loads of fun. Analog delays will make an oscillating tone which can be useful.

I love playing with a pick [i]and[/i] fingers. I use both as well as loads of pedals to create loads of different tones. Limiting yourself just to one is fine for some bands I suppose. I recorded a band recently, and the bassist who always played fingerstyle at gigs used a pick in the studio. I asked him why and he just said "I don't know, it just sounds better when I record" and he was deffinitely right. It all depends on the song/band/sound in question I suppose.
