1. That looks interesting! I'll check out your album some time.
2. Yo, I've been thinking about this quite a bit, and listening to your tracks (still not bought it sorry). I think I was looking at it in the wrong way, in that you're probably getting the exact right sound for the music. I'm not really familiar with the genre, so I was looking at it from a different perspective. Anyway, I was in the studio yesterday working on some of my stuff, and at the end of the session I thought i'd try some synth bass sounds for fun. I played it to a click and then put some drums over the top. There's a lot of dodgy playing and the sound isn't great - i'm miles away from the cool synth sounds you have, but I like the "dirtiness". (attached) EDIT: It's not uploading - what's the deal with that? EDIT: OK, something's up with the software I suppose. I've put it here "http://creepjoint.co.uk/drumnbassthing.mp3"
3. Lol, EH, have you ever been in a band you actually just enjoyed playing in? I'm in a band at the moment which I enjoy so much i'd happily just jam for hours on end with no gigs.
4. Oh dear. I play drums in a band and quite regularly say: "I've not played since last practise" "how does that one go?" "I don't want to play X gig"
5.
Glad to see this sensible comment before I went off on one! I was just about to get into a Feminist Frenzy
my second sentence was flippant but I was even a little hesitant at that. If my mother ever saw this type of talk she'd flip out!
6. In my experience it's always been a dodgy lead that gives radio interference.
7.
Disappointing fumbles are easy to come by, but a truly excellent lass that knows exactly what she's doing is a rare beasty and worth hanging on to.
I'd rather choose a partner based on personality, than bedroom ability. You can always learn but you can never stop being a bunny boiler!
8.
They're not mutually exclusive.
They are if "I can't see me ever making money from original music" is true.
9.
Sex?
It's not that hard to come by surely?
10. I used to think that my band would "make it" but that kind of fell apart 4 years ago. Since then i've thought about this a lot. I don't want to work a boring job for the rest of my life. I don't ever want to stop playing original music. I can't see me ever making money from original music. What's the answer? EDIT: Also there are some very cool older bands including Dick Venom and the Terrotones (the CD is great!).
11. I don't get why people stick with over bearing girlfriends? I've been in a few bands, the members have often had girlfriends, and it's never been a problem. I've been living with my girlfriend for 5 years but if she ever asked me to cancel a practise or a gig or something i'd be gone! Is it that some people just want to be controlled?
12. If it's worse with one specific bass would a ferrite ring at the bass end make more sense?
13. I use thumb picks which you don't have to grip hard, but the Dunlop ones (the only ones i can find) are very thick and stiff, so maybe not appropriate. Good luck anyway!
14. I'm interested in this "warming up" after 10 minutes. Are you sure that really happens?
15. so sad I didn't realise there were so many metallica fans on BC
16. A little bit of drunken dick-head behaviour destroyed the Premature Ejaculators. I hope it doesn't happen to your band! Oh, and thanks for the read
17. I had an old musicmaster before I ever knew they were sought after. I loved it but moved on to 6ers and so I swapped it for a sh*t drum kit. I'm glad I took up drums but I really miss that musicmaster.
18.
That's a nice tone...I like it a lot! Really digging Karnivool's John Stockman tone too...The song "Simple Boy" has a great bass tone.
Cheers! I love John Stockman's tone too. Have you seen them live? The tone is even more impressive, real ball-jangling stuff.
19.
What compressor do you recommend, Tom? Are there any tips to blending the two? I'll admit, the compressor is the one thing I'm really missing - and a few people have mentioned it now, so could be time to learn from it.
I'm deffinitely the wrong guy to ask. I use an Ibanez sound tank guitar compressor which is horribly noisey. I only use it for loud sections. Other than that I have a Boss LMB3 at the end of my chain to reign in peaks and give me more headroom.
20.
Yeah thats pretty evil (n a good way). whats the setup ?
A load of pedals. The important bits: A totally clean DI'd track with everything above 200Hz cut off. The rest is coming off my pedalboard which is an LS-2 blending some compression and sometimes ODB-3 with an Ibanez SS10 (weird old dirt pedal) which I drive varying amounts. there's more going on but I think the key to it is blending a compressor with an absolutely horrible distortion pedal. If you used the SS10 on it's own for bass you'd feel ill, and not in a good way.
21. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great! And the vocals work really well. I'm going to buy it later as i'm compiling some music for a short road trip this weekend. If I get chance i'll try and do some similar sounds
22. The one i'm talking about mainly is "The Threat Of Reason". I'd love to get hold of the bass and drum tracks seperately to show you what I mean. I don't think it has to sound any less synthy to be a bit more fat. Although, i'm sure you're right about it being different live. I will deffinitely catch you guys at some point
23.
That is a good tone mate There are two aren't there? I like the tone in the staccato math bits a lot!
There are a few sounds on that one, yeh. The phaser just after the intro bit is on bass, and there's a quiet bit near the end where i'm tapping with delay and whammy. Just the general sound of it though - I went from years of humbuckers to a jazz pup configuration with the bridge solo'd and it's the best move I ever made.
24. I honestly am so arrogant that I think my bass tone is the best ever. Have a listen to this which is a recording of my old band re-recording our songs in April. There are mistakes etc but just listen to that tone!! http://www.creepjoint.co.uk/nologo/how_to_lose_friends.mp3
