1.
2 amps works way better than a blend. I've done both.
But you are using two full range bass rigs, rather than using a guitar rig on a crossover. If I could afford to double my rig, I would probably run half of it clean with a bit of compression like you're doing.
2. Cool. I've been recording a band recently and used the ODB-3 for the bass on one song, it sounds ace. I'll try and remember to do sound samples.
3. Interesting! I started writing the below when I thought it was a breift one page summary. I'll have a good read at home. Cheers! Personally I would have thought the Kick Drum treble boost (if any) should be nearer 7-10KHz than 5KHz which I found could be too clicky. Also the increase in top end on the snare drum would only be acceptable on a top mic - if you did that on the bottom mic it would be all rattle and fizz surely?
4. I bought a "brice" 6 string from Rondo Music years ago for £150ish and I still love it. My main bass was a schecter 6 string (until a couple of months ago) but they are more like £500 I think.
5. My rig is a big pedal board with a bit of clean blend etc. I stick it all in the same bass amp, so in the respect, yeh, but then I also use a guitar amp for the mids and top end which you wouldn't normally get with a bass amp. EDIT: My point is that I don't think you need two totally seperate chains (one clean one dirty) to get that kind of effect, but I wouldn't expect to be able to acheive it with a bass amp alone (although i've not tried many amps).
6.
The 2001 has two channels complete with their own EQs. It'd be nice to have the extra control though and if I was running effects I'd especially want a clean signal running behind my FX to keep it fat whatever I do with the signal.
I just use a clean blend. I don't see the need for a whole clean chain, but plenty of people do it so there must be a point.
7.
I might have to steal the guitarist stack and try the clean/dirty thang out - the budget wont stretch to a pair of GK heads, and that JD7 is best part of a grand . yoinks lol I used to have a spare HA2000 amp, would have been Ideal - wish I have kept it now........ho hum.
If you think you need most power for the low end - all that's coming from your bass amp. A little 50W guitar combo would probably be enough to give you a nice bi-amp rig.
8.
My bass amp has 2 channels so i don't need 2 seperate heads for clean and distortion
At the same time? Nice!
9.
Justin's chancellor - Bassist for Tool. Most amazing tone in the rock business IMHO. Amazing bassist. Amazing band. I saw a recent video tour of his bass set up and he was using at least double the number of pedals you see there. Amp set up was the same. I notice he's had a bloody good hair cut!
Where's the video tour?
10. yep! Diago do one but i'm sure there are loads of alternatives around.
11. I just don't dare mess with my current system. Cubase SX3 running stable for the last 5 years!
12. Weird. The manual refers to the function as "bypass/mute" but doesn't say how to switch between the two. It shows you how to set the footswitch to engage bypass/mute but I guess you knew that.
13. I would love a B9.1UT but they're too expensive for me.
14. People like to whinge about Behringer, I can't deny their reputation for poor reliability. Having said that, in my experience, their reputation is not born out.
15.
cheers dude thats kind of what i was thinking, my mate used to have an old CReative front pannel on his PC i used to used the old Fostex 4-track as a mini sound desk & input through there.......was'nt bad for low-cost DIY demo's . As i say i'm not trying to do high end stuff just a way so i can import/ record via my laptop & keep it otherwise i just forget what i've done lol
If you're not after decent quality just plug a pedal (or your amp's DI or pre-amp out or FX send) into the line-in on your PC/laptop.
16. yeh 3 musicians, and either one of them sings or a 4th member on vocals.
17. I think behringerdo a cheap one... Check out this [url="http://www.studiospares.com/browse/comsoundcards?ex=co_wizr-locayta&collate=pdxtleadtype&collate=pdxtplug1&collate=pdxtplug2&collate=pdxtlength&collate=pdxtcolour&collate=ivtype&collate=price&collate=cat&collate=brand&collate=pdxtpowerrating&collate=pdxtimpedance&collate=pdxtbacktype&collate=pdxtheight&collate=pdxtinputs&collate=pdxtoutputs&collate=pdxtinternalmic&collate=pdxtrecordingmedium&collate=pdxtscardtype&collate=pdxtscardmidiio&collate=pdxtscardinputs&collate=pdxtscardoutputs&sortstock=descending&sortorder=stock&fieldcatrestrict=xancestorid&termtextcatrestrict=comsoundcards&typecatrestrict=exact&fieldinvt=type&termtextinvt=invt&typeinvt=exact&fieldpcatid=pcatid&typepcatid=exact&fieldpdxtscardtype=pdxtscardtype&termtextpdxtscardtype=USB&typepdxtscardtype=exact&termorder=catrestrict%3Ainvt%3Apcatid%3Apdxtscardtype&template=wz_locayta&pagenum=1&perpage=10&threshold=0&spellcorrect=1&datasource=studiosparesen&setsortorder=price,name&setsortprice=ascending&setpagenum=1"]page which has a good few interfaces. If you have a pedal or something you can use as a pre-amp then the very cheapest stuff which just accepts line inputs will work for you.
18. to be fair, i've never tried to make a bi-amp rig from two bass amps. Maybe the mids from a bass amp would be just as good if you hi-passed it?
19.
easier to learn, harder to master!
hmmm, guitar is pretty hard to master?!? I think in general, in terms of traditional music, bass lines are more simple to play than guitar parts - which is quite different to saying "guitar is harder than bass" because clearly it depends on what you're trying to do with it. I've been doing a lot of finger picking type stuff on my basses recently, which I find much harder to do than on guitar because the neck and strings are so fat!
20. I use a guitar amp with my peavey combo. Not for amp distortion, just to give me loads more mids and high end. I tried it once with my pedal board going straight to the guitar amp, and a clean signal going to the bass amp. It just wasn't as punchy. So, I use my pedal board straight into the bass amp, and the take the guitar amp input from that.
21. I'm very interested to know how much noise reduction you get from just rockwool... hopefully loads, then I can copy you!
22.
You could try velcro pads on the board and on the bottom of the pedals?
I used to do that. The velcro was stronger than the adhesive sticking down the velcro pads so if you wanted to move a pedal, you just ripped the velcro off the board.
23. What about digital pedals with memory chips. Are they cool with magnets?
