You have to remember the patches. They all have a letter and a number. So, you might set A1 as your dirty sound, A2 as your clean sound, A3 as your filter, A4 as a copy of A2, A5 as a chorus etc etc The display displays the letter/number combination.

I think i've answered this in your other thread. Anyway, just to add, you can plug a channel switch into the EXP input to use as a bypass switch if you want.

Also how many combined sounds can you use at once?[/quote] You basically have to set up a series of patches, and each one of these patches has one or more (or none) of the effects modules activated, with your settings saved. Then you switch up and down the patches. If you set every other patch to a "core sound" it makes it pretty easy to use in a live setting. It has a couple of drawbacks - I don't think you can use the synth and drive modules at the same time for example. It's worth having a quick read of the manual, as you'll HAVE to if you buy one.

I often use sounds that when solo'd are horribly dirty, but when in the mix just sound very bright and punchy. In the case of the DB maybe it'd be best to just add dirt to the upper mids, as perhaps then you'd be less likely to introduce feedback..?

just butting in as i'm a big Les fan... I think you could recognise Claypool's style through any rig, but style is not tone. He's had so many different tones over the years. Of all the players I can think of, he's the last person i'd expect to read "the tone's all in the fingers" about. He uses all manner of basses and effects and has created such a wide variety of tone over the years... Unless you were a musician I doubt you could tell it's all the same guy.

Have you tried any multis?

maybe you have the noise suppressor because you like a high gain setting on one of the dirt pedals. If you put the pedals in the loop of the NS-2 the gating function works better.

heh, to be honest I tried to do the same thing. I couldn't seem to assign the exp pedal to anything other than default settings. I got rid of it as the menu system was driving me nuts.

Heh, I don't know what i'm doing!! I just play until it sounds right. Cutting loads of highs, boosting high mids, careful compression etc all seem to do the trick.

Just to add that emulated amps are not by default sh*t. Also, i've had great results recording a clean DI'd guitar and adding distortion and EQ afterwards.

I'm looking at a new PC but on a very tight budget. Ideally i'd keep my M-Audio Delta cards, but they're 32bit PCI (not PCI-e or -x). does anyone know of a pretty modern motherboard which has at least 3 32bit PCI slots?

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. an mp3 should sound the same on every system using the same headphones.

Can you upload a sample of your mix?

I don't think you need to layer and pan distorted guitars - it's not a rule. It might be that the acoustic and clean guitars balance well on opposite sides with the distorted guitar in the centre.

I play a lot of chords. I wouldn't say distortion can "fill out" a band's sound for a solo, but an octaver or the like could be good.
