1. maybe you have the noise suppressor because you like a high gain setting on one of the dirt pedals. If you put the pedals in the loop of the NS-2 the gating function works better.
2.
I use the Dist setting Gain at about 2 o clock Volume at 10 o clock Treble at 11 o clock Bass at 1 o clock Freq between 11 and 12 Contour at 4 o clock It's a very extreme and unusual setting, but has great results! Very fuzzy almost Cliff-Burton esque sound when used on its own, or coupled with the Sansamp its an insanely aggressive driven sound. To my ears it actually sounds better than a distorted VT bass!
Interesting, thanks, i've only really used low gain settings on bass. I'll try to get it fuzzy some time!
3. It talks about two footswitches but I can only see one? Does it have USB? It's a very cool idea.
4. What does it send over USB - a stereo mix, or each individual input?
5. heh, to be honest I tried to do the same thing. I couldn't seem to assign the exp pedal to anything other than default settings. I got rid of it as the menu system was driving me nuts.
6. Downer Yeh it was in December. My friend saw them in London. I saw them earlier in the year as well, it's such an amasing live sound. Sorry!!
7. Heh, I don't know what i'm doing!! I just play until it sounds right. Cutting loads of highs, boosting high mids, careful compression etc all seem to do the trick.
8. Just to add that emulated amps are not by default sh*t. Also, i've had great results recording a clean DI'd guitar and adding distortion and EQ afterwards.
9. I'm looking at a new PC but on a very tight budget. Ideally i'd keep my M-Audio Delta cards, but they're 32bit PCI (not PCI-e or -x). does anyone know of a pretty modern motherboard which has at least 3 32bit PCI slots?
10.
I've render the final mix to *.wav because i can't render mp3 on my cubase LE unless i buy the license thing which i may consider doing it. I import the *.wav file to adobe media encoder and convert it to 128 mp3 ........ either 128 or 256 i can do on adobe media encoder ......
When you listen to the mp3 with headphones on the PC, it sounds fine, but when you take it to the ipod you can't hear distorted guitars? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. an mp3 should sound the same on every system using the same headphones.
11. Can you upload a sample of your mix?
12. I don't think you need to layer and pan distorted guitars - it's not a rule. It might be that the acoustic and clean guitars balance well on opposite sides with the distorted guitar in the centre.

Fuller sound

I play a lot of chords. I wouldn't say distortion can "fill out" a band's sound for a solo, but an octaver or the like could be good.
14.
On another note - you spoke to Jon Stockman? Can I get all excited and ask how/when/where/what he said?
Yeh after a gig in Manchester. I almost wet myself. I was explaining that my balls have never been fondled like they are by his dirty bass tone. He says he just uses an ODB3 for one bass and the XXL for the other (I think he has a streamer and a corvette?). He doesn't use a blender at all. He started asking me about my rig and I was a little wasted and embarassed so I slunk off as soon as some groupies turned up for autographs.
15. I'm surprised at your thoughts on the XXL. I've not tried it personally (my gf promised me one for christmas but it still hasn't appeared ) but when I spoke to the guy from Karnivool he said it didn't require a clean blend as the pedal didn't cut any low end. Are you using the guitar or bass version?
16. You might prefer the sound/tracking if you play your lines an octave higher and set it to harmonise an octave down.
17.
My point was the Cliff tone everyone always goes on about was not so much his amp sound, but his heavily distorted wah sound, which is quite easy to achieve with a couple of pedals. Once you have those the amp doesn't really factor into it. I think th only time you ever really heard Cliff 'clean' was on Kill 'Em all, and that sounds like a very dry DI sound to me. Not trying to bash Cliff in any way here, I love his playing and sound, I just don't think the amp plays too much of a part in recreating that tone.
A guitar practise amp would always be great for some filth to run along side your bass rig. I've done that a few times.
18. What an odd question! I'll weigh mine later if I remember to take it home with me
19. is the tone press noisy even with a battery? If so it sounds like a problem with the pedal to me.
20. Just out of interest, what are your settings on the jackhammer?
21. When you have the TonePress on it's own, powered by your PSU, is it noisy? Could you try a seperate PSU for each pedal to see if it's a problem with daisy chaining them?
22.
I think the CS2 is a completely different pedal rather than a predecessor as it is a compressor not a limiter which gives a very different effect.
Correct!
23. Apparently the behringer plastic copy of the LMB3 is just as good. It's just plastic.
24. the enhancer will "amplify all the fretboard noise and other artifacts" and is also utter sh*t. As a limiter though, it's a great pedal! If you get the threshold set right you should be able to avoid amplifying your unwanted artifacts or adding loads of sustain.
