heh, to be honest I tried to do the same thing. I couldn't seem to assign the exp pedal to anything other than default settings. I got rid of it as the menu system was driving me nuts.

Heh, I don't know what i'm doing!! I just play until it sounds right. Cutting loads of highs, boosting high mids, careful compression etc all seem to do the trick.

Just to add that emulated amps are not by default sh*t. Also, i've had great results recording a clean DI'd guitar and adding distortion and EQ afterwards.

I'm looking at a new PC but on a very tight budget. Ideally i'd keep my M-Audio Delta cards, but they're 32bit PCI (not PCI-e or -x). does anyone know of a pretty modern motherboard which has at least 3 32bit PCI slots?

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. an mp3 should sound the same on every system using the same headphones.

Can you upload a sample of your mix?

I don't think you need to layer and pan distorted guitars - it's not a rule. It might be that the acoustic and clean guitars balance well on opposite sides with the distorted guitar in the centre.

I play a lot of chords. I wouldn't say distortion can "fill out" a band's sound for a solo, but an octaver or the like could be good.

I'm surprised at your thoughts on the XXL. I've not tried it personally (my gf promised me one for christmas but it still hasn't appeared ) but when I spoke to the guy from Karnivool he said it didn't require a clean blend as the pedal didn't cut any low end. Are you using the guitar or bass version?

You might prefer the sound/tracking if you play your lines an octave higher and set it to harmonise an octave down.

I've done that a few times.

is the tone press noisy even with a battery? If so it sounds like a problem with the pedal to me.

Just out of interest, what are your settings on the jackhammer?

When you have the TonePress on it's own, powered by your PSU, is it noisy? Could you try a seperate PSU for each pedal to see if it's a problem with daisy chaining them?

Apparently the behringer plastic copy of the LMB3 is just as good. It's just plastic.

the enhancer will "amplify all the fretboard noise and other artifacts" and is also utter sh*t. As a limiter though, it's a great pedal! If you get the threshold set right you should be able to avoid amplifying your unwanted artifacts or adding loads of sustain.

You shouldn't really get popping and clicking with the behringer card, but I don't actually have experience with them. My cards are PCI so I will refrain from posting more - I just noticed the one for sale and thought you may have missed it.

My girlfriend uses it loads. She refuses to choose from my music collection (ripped to the HD) saying that spotify exposes her to new artists etc. It's a nice idea but those god damn f***ing adverts drive me nuts!! Forcing people to pay and avoid those ads is going to save me hours of ear ache!

You know if you have the money for a mac, there are companies that make PCs specifically for audio recording/production. They use totally compatible hardware, the best components etc.

I have the digitech. It's OK but you don't get much control. Someone bought it me thinking it was what I wanted, but I ended up using it to give me a very clicky sound for certain sections.

I used to do that - try to kick my pedals off during muted sections. It got to where I was turning them off for every little half second break in a riff, which was a bit much. Especially when people laughed refering to my "tap dancing" :-/
