1.
Plugging a cable into the input generally turns a pedal on, pressing the switch merely routes the audio signal through it.
so True Bypass makes no difference? I assumed that when it bypassed the pedal it'd cut the power. It's a good job I gig with PSUs then! I think it's the current draw that will determine how fast the battery drains. A 20Ma fuzz pedal would last loads longer than a 250Ma digital delay!
2. it might be possible to have the octabass modded for true bypass. I doubt it'd run out quicker than 3 hours on just a battery though, it's just personally I would feel insecure about it.
3. it depends. If the pedal is true bypass, then it should really turn off and stop draining power when it's off. If the pedal isn't true bypass, this means it has a buffer running all the time, which I assume would drain some power. I would never dare gig with just batteries anyway. I put batteries in my pedals, just in case, but I power them from a PSU.
4. If you prefer the sound of no-pedals, i'm struggling to imagine why you'd need a compressor for a specific point in a song. What are you using the compressor for? Is it no good at the very end of the chain?
5.
Turning down is never really a solution Tom! I'm not talking expensive trust me, just lower gain.
OK, expense a-side, why is turning down not a valid way of reducing the distortion you get?
6. could you not just turn the volume down on your bass, rather than swapping expensive tubes to find the right gain?
7.
The Boss bass overdrive is... horrible. Unless you want always tons of ultra fuzzy distortion, this is not a good one.
Total balls. Have you heard the bass tone of the guy from Karnivool? He uses one. Quite often people bring this pedal up and say it's only capable of weak fizzy distortion. It has a clean blend, and EQ to boost the low, and cut the highs, and it has a gain control, which is useless past 10 o'clock. It's perfect for a big bottomed growly boost! It's not good at fuzz, but it's great at OD.
8. is it that you're getting loads of reflections? I guess there's no room for bookshelves etc but you could buy some proper diffusers.
9. Sorry, I thought it was just an online thing. I hope it goes well anyway!
10. Well, she sounds perfect to me. Even if it does take a year to [s]groom[/s] get her up to speed.
11. It happens all the time, check out the threads on couriers!
12. In site news there is a post explaining that they're in the process of changing the board software quite drastically, so I doubt they're going to tweak the existing software at the moment.
13. I always tune to the harmonics on the 12th fret which seem to give a more stable reading, especially for the lowest strings.
14. I always wanted one. Do you have to put it in a blender? Does it lose any low end?
15. I have flats on one of my 6 strings. Using EQ and dirt I have no problem creating a horrible trebly distortion tone.
16. You shouldn't have to go custom though? Diago, Godlyke, Burkey etc should cover all bases
17. It's probably not that safe. If you get a decent one you won't get noise and it'll power all your pedals. I use a Godlyke Powerall, but that only goes to 3Amps (I think). There are others which can go further. I think someone was selling a burkey flatliner on here recently, it was a good deal!
18.
It's a decent shot of you though. Huuuuge stage. Looks proper rock an roll.
That's LRV in Stoke. I bet you'd get a gig there with your 2 peice act, I think you have to contact the student union. It's an ace venue if it fills up.
19.
I'd always imagined you'd be older, Tom. Dan
Heh, that's from about 4 years ago!
20. That looks ace shep! This is the only live shot I have of my board. It's not very good
21. Well, I have practised at industrial type places for the last 5 years. We try to come to agreements with everyone in earshot, stipulating what times we can play, and how they can get in touch if it's too loud. To be fair, if I ever had to practise on a Sunday morning, i'd have to try and soundproof a bit.
22.
It's not a residential building, it's a warehouse, there's no other houses anywhere near.
I'm just going to quote this as no-one has read it.
